It's Rocky Horror costuming mixed with "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allen Poe. Everything is done so well. My favorite part is the use of “bewitch” in the chorus. The phrase “be with you” is used often in poetry, movies, and songs, that you think it as it’s being sung, only to realize it is “bewitch”. Thus, you are the one marrying the concepts in your mind, letting the actual phrase and the implied phrase mean whatever it means to you at the moment. It could mean someone you thought loved you was using you, or it could mean you are completely and totally enraptured by your beloved…I love this dichotomous approach, and it’s one of the reasons I love Ghost so much! Their lyrics take on different meanings based on my mood, so they’re very fun to listen to multiple times over. The visuals in the videos are so strong and engaging that I can’t help but visualize them when I listen to the song without the video.
@@scottd2605 I know of “Bewitched” by Sinatra but not by “Older Women”, or “Bewitched by Older Women”…couldn’t find it on Google, either. I’m 41 and it doesn’t ring a bell but I may know it by some other phrase
I was an extra in this video and it was pretty fun. Worst part was kneeling on our knees the marble floor. Ouch. Fun to see how this turned out though. Shoutout to my extra coworkers and to the rest of the crew for a fun night of dancing, corpse paint makeup and fajitas.
@shreyas yes, he didn't really have time to interact with us being preoccupied with the making of the video. I asked him if he was Ghost and his reply was "not now." Which I took to imply he wasn't in character. I complimented him on how much I adore the Elizabeth song and that was that @Vannessa, a casting website called casting frontier landed me this extra gig
Europe was in this turmoil in the late 1340s. The plague is extremely fast. It starts off as the worst flu you’ve ever had and then it just goes worse and then you’re dead after three days. So people were lying in the streets - corpses and all the surroundings were just falling apart. All the brothels and pubs were thriving because people started partying literally like there was no tomorrow because they were gonna die. They were just going for it. “Dance Macabre” is capturing that joyous nocturnal sort of life in a disco song.

As a music fan, I say this is just ok. Not, terrible....well the video is terrible but the song is meh. The vocals aren't great and the music just sounds like some kind of 80's retread. I am also no Metal aficionado, but this doesn't sound very Metal to me.

Never heard this before, but this song made the impossible, by unifying historical themes (the name "Danse Macabre refers to a particular practice during the times of the black plague in the Middle Ages and the inspiration from that it's crystal clear), metal music iconography and 80's pop songs danceability. And even if this is not my favorite kind of music, since I'm a more trash/groove metal fan, the song makes me wanna dance like a disco enjoyer. In a few words: positively impressed and speechless
This is the last song that my friend and coworker, Dayton, played for me. We bonded over not only Ghost but also a lot of emotion and trauma. Fly high my friend and know that I will never forget you.
They need more hair and in the 80's the hair bands were pretty boys. Who knows what these guys look like? Even Kiss took off their make up for a while back in the 80's. But they were not pretty boys so they put it back on.
In "New Blood", Papa Nihil says "My father was Papa Emeritus, and my father's father was Papa Emeritus" etc. Which means one of these: a) Papa Nihil has serious memory issues and he is really the first Papa b) The ones depicted in the video are not Papa Emeritus and Sister Imperator, but some sort of interpretation or incarnation of them? c) Papa Nihil was somehow the lost heir to the bloodline, and Sister Imperator made sure to bring him in the Clergy
I also go with c, to me it looks like the guy at the door knows exactly who's in front of him at 1:00. Also, is his friend getting sacrificed or something ?
@@DragondanceGirl Papa's friend is what confused me the most. At first he looks like just some random college dude. BUT, after he meets the cultist at the door, he seems to be INSISTING to get in. You can regard it as the beginning of [Papa and Sister Imperator’s] relationship.”

At first I thought the lyrics were "Be with you in the moonlight" but then learn it was actually "Bewitch you in the moonlight" and was like ooooooh

So it wasn't just me then?🤣
It could either be “bewitch you” or “be wit ‘chu”
@@LogiBear59 I've played it on Amazon music with the lyrics showing and he definitely sings "bewitch you" which is apt considering the theme of the song.
Bloody good song, it's the one that got me into the band in the first place.

If the devil ever did send a band to preach his message, the voice would not come from the black metal sound. It would be from a catchy, poppy, incredible rock n roll riff that is friendly to everyone's ears. Tobias nailed the sound and the look of the message and show he's been doing. It's Rocky Horror costuming mixed with "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allen Poe. Something that isn't mentioned alot, is the two main actors in this. They're phenomenal, the actual chemistry they have for eachother and the story they deliver without ever once speaking during the song is incredible. When she hits him, and knocks him back to his senses so to speak, the actual look of wonderment, epiphany, remembrance, as if they'd just been woken up from a fake life is phenomenal. These two had more chemistry than most if not all the latest Hollywood films, and they only spoke with looks and actions. Fucking love it. Everything about this song, the music, dancing, cinematography, the cast, everything absolutely slaps.

Same I’m in my late thirties and didn’t know of them till a few years ago.
I just saw them live last night and I can tell you, that you have stumbled on something amazing

This band would have been huge in the 80s
91-93 they would've owned.
They need more hair and in the 80's the hair bands were pretty boys. Who knows what these guys look like? Even Kiss took off their make up for a while back in the 80's. But they were not pretty boys so they put it back on.
If they were in the 80's they wouldve been ripping off the 50's, so no.

ya, i mean who promote great bands these days, no one
In "New Blood", Papa Nihil says "My father was Papa Emeritus, and my father's father was Papa Emeritus" etc.
Which means one of these:
a) Papa Nihil has serious memory issues and he is really the first Papa
b) The ones depicted in the video are not Papa Emeritus and Sister Imperator, but some sort of interpretation or incarnation of them?
c) Papa Nihil was somehow the lost heir to the bloodline, and Sister Imperator made sure to bring him in the Clergy
C. feels most likely honestly. Gives a reason for them meeting to be so haphazard
I vote c. Sis knew. She had her eyes on him from the get-go. It makes sense.
I also go with c, to me it looks like the guy at the door knows exactly who's in front of him at 1:00. Also, is his friend getting sacrificed or something ?
