Absolutely my friend .Well said.I’m so grateful for youtube just to be able to connect with people like yourself about things that most in my life could care less about.Cheers to Bill ! 🤘😉
I confess, the first time I heard this on his "Has Been" CD, it got me all choked up. This song (or rather this "un-song") describes something that everyone feels in life every once in awhile. Emotions aside, it's definitely a wonderful composition. Shatner and company did a spectacular job on stage.
>> This song (or rather this "un-song") describes something that everyone feels in life every once in awhile. Yeah ... except William Shatner who "it" happened to in the 1960's. True or not?
I got to meet Bill at a party last night (Christmas Eve)! What a soulful gentleman! I knew it was time to listen to this song. I told him how much I love his music, and he told me there was "something coming out soon!" What a wonderful thing to look forward to. William Shatner, Merry Christmas to you and Elizabeth! Bill: it will happen.
I remember when I first heard this song. I was somewhere between 18-20 and I was studying for an exam, in my bed. It was a beautiful, warm spring evening at about 22 o'clock. In some point I fell sleep. Radio was playing beside the bed and suddenly in my sleep I heard that something special is happening. THIS SONG started to play in radio. It was weird that I was actually sleeping and at the same time in my sleep I could hear this song. I woke up after the song ended and I had no idea what it was I just heard, but I knew it was incredibly good. Since radio was not yet in internet I had to write an email to the broadcaster and ask what it was :) .... And this song has a special place in my mind since ....
This album dropped the year after I graduated university. This song was touching even in my 20s, life feeling like it was really just beginning. But now, at 40, it’s searing. I write this with tears streaming. It hasn’t happened. Yet.
I'm not a huge fan of William Shatner, not a big trekkie or anything like that, but I listened to his album and I genuinely think it is something special and different to most things you hear today. Shatner is a prime example of no matter how lucky you are, it can all fall apart and while some people just give up hope, it takes real grit and determination to succeed again and that to me is Shatner who I believe is a great example to people everywhere.
This song must ring a bell with many people, self included...😢. You try, and try, you work, and work... Sure, Bill had difficult times , but he did keep trying... Getting divorced quite early on , losing so much, was quite a blow, but he persevered.... He put his talents to good use, and has got a lot more out of life than most of us, he radiates a strong " life force", and I think that's why so many people love him... You could do a lot worse... 🇺🇲💕🇬🇧😊
Aah! My Favorite Captain! And he has all the enthusiasm and wonderment of a child. Blown away by the experience. I am glad he got to go to Space. His alter-ego has been living there for so long. Yay! Kirk!
As a musician and singer I was amazed at this song! NOT because I am a William Shatner fan....I am that also....but because this song "It hasn't happened yet" really is an honest look at an aging man looking back over his past...sometimes wishing he could go back and relive parts of his life to make it more satisfying. But isn't that what EVERYONE goes through when they get older? All of us...at some point...will go through the stage of "I wish this or that would have happened....but it hasn't happened yet". Really shatner is speaking of getting older and looking back at things he wished he would have done, but again, all of us go through that. That is why I think so many could relate to this song. THAT being said....now I know what the daughter of the original star trek theme song singer looks like! Because her oooing and ahhing made me think of the original theme song for some reason! LOL!
How come William Shatner doesn't age? I see him in commercials today and he doesn't look anywhere close to 80. Marvelous song, seriously it's one of my favorites.
It made me CRY to see Bill look over at the singer after he heard her hit that high note at 3:30. GOD, why didn't I discover this sooner???? I only did because of Henry Rollins. By the way, to anyone who knows... Is that Ben Folds on one of the pianos? I know he's the one who made the album happen, and one of the pianists looks like him. Just wondering!
Shatner Should be everyones hero. This album is exquisite: well produced, well performed and delightfully written. Big Bills prose poetry is a remarkably powerful and intense thing.
Bill had some really hard times before Star Trek - and some equally hard times afterwards. He had a family, and really had to pull it together. He famously said: *Work is work.* A humbling and yet noble approach to doing what you have to do. This piece taps into some of that.
One of the most beautiful songs written. So poignant & in a way, quite sad. I think at times, we ALL can relate to the subject matter. I know I can :-((
It looks at the end there like Bill gets lost in the lady's voice, like he knows the moment when she stops singing will come, and he's just letting the beuaty of her voice penetrate his soul while it lasts.
Loved this album when it came out, this remains my favorite song. It has held up over the years - the best thing William Shatner has done with music. Outstanding.
Easily one of the sweetest songs ever composed. It’s SO honest, vulnerable, passionate and profound. The world would be for worse if we never had such an amazing talent and role model for us all.❤️🎶
All of these years I've been a Trekker but I don't think I ever really "saw" this man until I heard this album. I see you now, William Shatner, and I like the man I see.
I have the album and it is truly a great piece of work. I bought it for several friends one Christmas but sadly not all got the irony and art of it. It's one of my top 10 albums. Love this song...so powerful.
The first time I listened to the "Has Been" CD I really enjoyed it but especially focused in on this cut. It is so touching and seems genuine in sentiment, at least to me. I must have hit repeat a dozen times before I moved on. It some ways it gave me comfort in knowing that I am not alone; that some things stay with you no matter your age. William Shatner put out two really wonderful CD's with Ben Folds. Thank you for posting this video!
I love this song from the Album Has Been, but i love this version of it more. Very touching and and has alot of sentiment to it, which feels to me quite genuine. I play this alot, William Shatner performs this brilliantly. Whoever posted this vidio, Thanks.
William Shatner is so much more than just Captain James T. Kirk, for no one should underestimate him. Also, it has not happened for me yet neither, I am still waiting for justice, financial restitution, and peace too ! ☮️ Fantastic spoken word song, and I look forward to more videos and interviews !!
It takes some bollocks to sit in a studio, let alone stand in front of a crowd, and talk along with some music in the Kojak style. I wonder if anyone else ever tried it.
My old man died after this. Shatner asked all the questions. He’s a fat flawed egotist. A brilliant human being. The finger up at the beginning. Silence the room with a single gesture. Cheers Bill and Ben
i gotta say, im a metalhead and normally i only listen to heavy metal but i got this cd on a whim due to a recommendation from someone i trust, and im really liking it. Of course, being a trekkie and general fan of the awesome mr Shatner might have something to do with it. :)
oh my good that was incredible. are there any other live performances from Has Been on video? This album is so incredible. Probably one of the most talented albums to be released in the 2000's. Nice to see Ben Folds playing live with him
"Has Been" by Bill and Ben was one of the strangest, but most weirdly satisfying albums that came out last decade.
Well said. And, oddly, probably most most listened to album.
In this century
Yes, as a progressive rock musician of 40+ years, oddly, I feel the same. It's hauntingly good!
Absolutely my friend .Well said.I’m so grateful for youtube just to be able to connect with people like yourself about things that most in my life could care less about.Cheers to Bill !
🤘😉
Shatner is one of the coolest cats ever to walk the earth.
Nuff said.
this is the most amazing, saddest and most profound song out there. Kudos to Mr Shatner for making it real.
No, Johnny Cash’s the needle tears a hole

Yeah ... except William Shatner who "it" happened to in the 1960's. True or not?
Very powerful to me. I am 58 and also feel that " It Hasn't Happened" in my life as well.
Amen. I'm 59, and this got it just right.... success/failure all in one.....
Hope you're keeping on keeping on Linda
I love Shatner's willingness to express himself with courageous honesty. He created a new art form with his spoken word musical poetry.
The most intriguing mystery to me is how few hits this song has had over the years....
I'm 51 years old and have always been a close follower of music and television. This song makes my top ten list. Bill Shatner kicks tail!
I got to meet Bill at a party last night (Christmas Eve)! What a soulful gentleman! I knew it was time to listen to this song. Couldn't have said it better. Life can be tough.
This is real. What else can I say. He's exposing his inner vulnerable self in a way that is fascinating, not least because it's art
Some real singers cant never reach his touch of class...Majestic, Mr. Shatner!
This is one of the best I've heard Shatner do!

Agreed...if this was ever released on DVD I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Shatner is such an over-actor that it makes him lovable.

SHATNER IS THE MAN!
What a voice this girl has. And Shatner is always surprisingly good in his way of "singing".
This is beautiful.
This song is the most honest, self-effacing and least guarded impression of the real William Shatner that we're likely to ever get.
Aah! My Favorite Captain! And he has all the enthusiasm and wonderment of a child. Blown away by the experience. I am glad he got to go to Space. His alter-ego has been living there for so long. Yay! Kirk!

Marvelous song, seriously it's one of my favorites.
I can't stop listening to this song.
God this is so beautiful, so true. "Has Been" is one of my all time favorite albums.

seriously one of the best songs of all time!
Great version!

William Shatner you are my hero

The female singer has a beautiful voice - almost brought me to tears.
I really like this.. it's really well done ..
A great performance of a great song from a great album. Incredible. Well done that Shat! (and Ben Folds)
Love Shatner, I love that he has never given up and won't slow down or stop. And that album 'Has Been' is completely amazing.
Loved this album when it came out, this remains my favorite song. It has held up over the years - the best thing William Shatner has done with music. Outstanding.

Still one of my most favorite touching things I ever heard. Just blows me away
All of these years I've been a Trekker but I don't think I ever really "saw" this man until I heard this album. I see you now, William Shatner, and I like the man I see.
This is one of my top songs!
love Shatner. amazing stuff.
I have the album and it is truly a great piece of work. I bought it for several friends one Christmas but sadly not all got the irony and art of it. It's one of my top 10 albums. Love this song...so powerful.
What a great song!
So heartbreaking. And beautiful.
just magnificent

this is my favorite video on youtube. it gives me hope that someone out there understands me.
Same here.....
The album this is from is amazing, I'm serious!!! My wife and I listen to it often.
woa, i am spellbound. Look at the amazing life Shatner has had. I wish I could be as successful as him one day.
Beautiful.
absolutely brilliant
There's more to Mr. Shatner than meets the eye.
He is absolute legend
This is hands down the greatest TH-cam video of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing. Sad that some people don't understand Spoken Word artists.
Yeah, it does seem odd, especially with the amount of rap etc around.
When its good, its good, but most are not good. Maybe thats why.
@@Albee213 Only Shatner is a true "songspeaker" though. Big difference...
Sad that Shatner is among those people. ;-)
I love this song!!!
William Shatner: He's not a singer, but how can you not love what he does anyway? Good stuff!
I don't know about anyone else but there are certain notes on the piano that brings me to tears .....
Who would have thought he could make me cry. What a great combo of unlikelihood.
"It hasn't happened yet. It hasn't happened."
Heartbreaking.
Heartbreaking 😢
Beautiful
I LOVE YOU SHATNER!!!!
Greetings From Portugal!
William Shatner is so much more than just Captain James T. Kirk, for no one should underestimate him. Also, it has not happened for me yet neither, I am still waiting for justice, financial restitution, and peace too ! ☮️
Fantastic spoken word song, and I look forward to more videos and interviews !!
@TobyJae - I totally agree, one of my favorite songs of all time.
Jaquen777...
You're 40, you say.......
You still have everything to play for.😊
Try this song at 73 ...😢.
🇬🇧💕🇺🇲
😢😢😢
Beautiful!!!
the guy who yells 'KHAAAAAAAN!' at the beginning. genius.
It takes some bollocks to sit in a studio, let alone stand in front of a crowd, and talk along with some music in the Kojak style. I wonder if anyone else ever tried it.
this song and this album are incredible
An odd, but profound album indeed... Great piece!
at my age i need serenity, i need peace...it hasn't happened...it hasn't happened...it hasn't happened...
Don’t we all. It hasn’t happened yet
GREAT song and album!
Dark. Lonesome. Great. Thanks from unlucky Germany!
How I love this!
Great Artist William Shatner !!!!! Amazing !!!!
My old man died after this. Shatner asked all the questions. He’s a fat flawed egotist. A brilliant human being.
The finger up at the beginning. Silence the room with a single gesture.
Cheers Bill and Ben
Bill and Ben I really love this CD .
Awesome song from 2 awesome dudes
This is wonderful!
Pure genius!
Love this song. This was a great album
i gotta say, im a metalhead and normally i only listen to heavy metal but i got this cd on a whim due to a recommendation from someone i trust, and im really liking it. Of course, being a trekkie and general fan of the awesome mr Shatner might have something to do with it. :)
Wow
Love this. I've watched it through a few times. So deep. Brilliant.
Excellent Bill.
Love this!!
I Love it!!!!!!!
This song makes ya think what this guy has been thru after ST. And NOW he's the man!
oh my good that was incredible. are there any other live performances from Has Been on video? This album is so incredible. Probably one of the most talented albums to be released in the 2000's. Nice to see Ben Folds playing live with him
Have you heard of "Gonzo Ballet"? I keep hoping to find it somewhere, but it is persistently elusive.
More More!
Great album, great song
