    I went to the Diamond Aircraft Factory in January and saw these exact 3 D-Jets covered in dust and practically gutted in the corner of the production floor. Got to take a real close look and it had a very nice design to it. They seemed to have variations in design for each prototype.

    Nice video - food for thought is the FAA ‘I thought’ will not certify a single engine jet above either FL310 due to requirements for pressurization. Anything above that altitude is needing two engines and so is confusing to hear how these jets can go that high. So keep the videos coming and thanks!

    • @mr.ginnationfunlifestyle3891
      @mr.ginnationfunlifestyle3891 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      flyingrv6 because the eclipse jet got two reliable engines. The one engine at the Piper is not the point to the FAA. The point is to improve more because of one engine that brings the developing costs up high. So Piper quits because of costs and much higher selling price to put on the sale.

    I worked the Epic Victory project. Dec 15 06’ Rick n another gent sat down for dinner, turned a placemat over and sketched the plane. Rick told the other gent he’d split the cost 50/50 but the reality is that the other gent footed the whole development cost and so owned it outright not Epic. Dev cost, tooling, and the first proof of concept plane roughly 2.8 million. The fuselage was even co-cured, meaning layup the two halves, bolt together, and join halves with carbon, film adhesive, and core then bag and cure. When Epic went bankrupt the company was sold in part to current owners and China. Current owners were certain they owned the Vicotry design, but the other gent or actual owner sold it to the Chinese for a million, CAD, tooling, and some parts. The prototype was to be completed by July 4th 07’ and the name Victory for that date. We flew first time on the 5th only because of winds a bit above what was above set allowables. The plane had a Williams FJ33-15 and desperately needed a -18. I remember one takeoff from Page, AZ on the way home from the 08’ NBAA show where neither the pilot or I were certain we’d get off the ground as we used almost the whole runway and only two of us with fuel and clothing. The plane could have easily flown above 30,000 ft with rvsm cert as I was in it at near 28,000’ and no end at that point to climb. It could keep up with the Epic LT including fuel consumption. In my opinion Epic was better off with the now E1000 and congrats to them on certification. As for the Victory, there is some chance it will still be produced by the Chinese as one of the former Epic shop guys was working in China on various Epic designs. Oh, and about cost. Really a million! There was at the time 330k in the engine and dual panel Garmin 100k+, carbon at 100k, labor 400k, other goodies like flight controls and landing gear at least another 150k. It’s no wonder Rick ran the place to the ground, all planes were likely sold at a loss. Add to that Obama’s comment about no one flying in private aircraft and pretty much all general aviation closed down, went bankrupt, or was sold for a pittance. Rick was no saint, but did things not even close to as bad as what the financial idiots of Wall Street did although they didn’t get a slap on the wrist and he got convicted rightly of federal wire fraud.

    Sorry .. no aircraft should cost more than 200K. Building aircraft is much easier than making car. Aviation is too prohibitive if you want to buy a decent performance aircraft. Kits are mostly ridiculous not many people have time to build .. that's why everyone is flying grandpa's ride. Its ridiculous too much red tape fuel is expensive and glass cockpit conversions close 30K. Finance companies charge too much interest it's a ripoff ... aircrafts going electric would at least get rid of prohibitive fuel costs market needs a big shakeup and china or any other country with low cost labour to take charge of building 4 and 6 seat 1500fpm climb rate 250kt props

    many might rightly study the specs and develop a fair appreciation of why any would try to create a viable market for a single engine jet. seems some proposals don't really make sense, while a couple certainly point the way for a few new designs that surely might convince a daring few. certainly, if reasonable people could have been persuaded that commercial airliners with three engines made really good sense--only for hind sight to inform them of their folly, tricked by some outrageous sorts for a huge caper, on the one hand, the better engineering for a single engine jet plane--no longer compromised by tricky safety issues, etc.--is just around the corner. still, it's the familiar context wherein nobody wants to go first. this is more of a problem than engineers and makers have solved, etc. designs so far have rightly put costs rather high for their products. but i think they must be sure to exemplify truly spectacular, powerful, durable performance and single-pilot aspects more than simply the bottom line. moreover, they soon should be able to realize cost savings beyond high production savings, etc. a jet powered chevy car is not really gonna fly--builders will do better with a plane that really has no convenient automotive paradigm. and suffice to say, an airborne BMW/MB/Telsa would likely still be a twin. persons willing to "go first" want a product, not worried very much about costs--tho the right plane can offer delightful savings. and the big market for twins and turboprops most likely will be luke warm until the strangeness is no longer much of an issue among any number gradually informed of what is a new, special product of very new technology, etc. yes, an optional parachute surely should be of special interest for some..........

    There is plenty of room for dreamers in this world, but eventually somebody has to get down to assembling more than a video. If half a dozen of these companies were to cooperate they might well achieve something, but they don't seem to know how to work with others. You'l recall that even Boeing had to ask NASA for help. Just pickup the phone and speak to your nearest rival, and you might achieve together what you clearly can't afford to do alone. I've seen so many projects and companies founder because they were to shy or pig-headed to ask for help.

      @DanFrederiksen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Topgun God nono, Icon has made quite a few planes. It's somewhat controversial for many reasons but no, they have delivered to customers. I forget how many but I believe there are hundreds of planes by now. I've even seen a yacht that had one onboard as a water/air toy. It's a pretty cool looking plane but I don't like the low speed and then the price went much higher than they said but really, in certified aviation, 450k is not high. I'm not sure why certification is such a pain but it is.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Topgun God there has been quite a few deaths in then though but seemingly not because the plane failed. They encourage an adventurous flying style like it's a toy and that has resulted in quite a few deaths, very unlike other plane usage. Some famous sports guy flew up and down over water like a roller coaster and turned up right before hitting the water until one time it dived to deeply and he crashed into the water and died. Others flew into a canyon at low altitude over water until it ended and they couldn't turn around or climb out and they crashed and died. Even the plane's designer has died in it. Nothing wrong with the planes but they market it to non pilot customers as a fun craft.

    Nobody uses mph in aviation. In the far past (70`s) a few brands would use mph to make the numbers look bigger. All pilots use Knots. So, if we are to use speed numbers to compare to similar production aircraft, stick to knots. Unless you fly in eastern Europe, then kilometers it is.

    These small jets are interesting and sexy looking but they are too small for a rich executive and way too expensive for a high middle class aviation enthousiast.
    Just like their turboprop counterparts.

    I'm afraid of a bird strike in a single jet engine.

    The Flaris ceiling of 46,000 ft. Have a rapid depressurisation at that altitude, a little cabin like that would empty out super quick and useful time of consciousness would be maybe 10 or 15 seconds. The impressive range promised would only be achievable if the last couple of hours of flight was way up high and pilot would be required to have an oxygen mask on just in case.

      Only if you use computers to make it fly, like a f16 or MAX737, not if you build a stable plane, NG737 or cessna
      Correction **not** if...
