Torn between niboshi, miso, and tantanmen. All in my top 5, the other two being Kumamoto and La Paz. Last one's not really ramen but come on, close enough.
I'm laughing/smiling while watching this because when he said FOOD COMA, I can see it in his eyes and I imagined him taking naps in between visiting ramen shops. LOL!
OMG. How about the time interval before you took 2 - 3 ramen shops. And you ordered 2 bowl per ramen shop! That's Insaaaaane!! but I enjoyed the video Frank. Keep it up. Greeting from PH!
Thanks for joining the trip 😀. Between the shrimp oil ramen and the niboshi ramen, it was difficult to decide on my favorite! But yes, all were delicious.
It all looks Soo good! Your my highlight visiting Tokyo last year with your food tour always show pictures of the ramen ate there at different ramen shop here in the USA. Keep up the good work hopefully everything is well especially with nowadays.
Great to hear from you and so glad to hear that (having enjoyed the tour and showing the photos of the ramen over there). Will keep the ramen content rolling and likewise, please stay safe!
Haha, it's funny - in some footage I didn't end up using I talked about that, how wearing a white shirt was a rookie mistake. But I'm sure I had some splotches on the way back to Tokyo 😅
Excellently done as always Frank! I really really wanted to go back to Japan for some ramen but with travel restrictions in my country, I guess I have to wait. Thank you for taking us with you. When I go back to Tokyo I will join your Ramen tour for sure.
Thanks for watching and glad you had fun watching it! I'll keep putting out the virtual ramen tours here in the meantime 😊. Hopefully travel will be safely possible relatively soon!
Thanks for the video. I'm actually watching as I want to get to know Tsukuba better as I had an internship at a scientific facility there cancelled due to covid 19 but I'm hoping to take it next summer instead. There's barely any content about Tsukuba on TH-cam! I'm a vegetarian so I couldn't have eaten any of these anyway but I enjoyed your video as it gave me an idea of what the area is all about.
I'm glad the info was helpful and there indeed isn't much info about Tsukuba out there. I'm gonna be going back to Tsukuba for another ramen video and hopefully will be able to climb Mount Tsukuba on the day too. Plz feel free to watch the latest video from my channel, which highlights a ramen shop with vegetarian options! I hope your internship is reinstated next year too!
I am shocked that you don't have more subscribers. I came across you from Sonny and the Bestest Food Ever Show Channel and you were so personable and a great "guest host". Hope you blow up soon!!
Frank, amazing video again! I like the Niboshi ramen the best. Not surprised you devoured so much ramen in one day. You have the honor of being the Ramen King of Tokyo.
What a nice, relaxing place! Thank you for taking us with you. I want to try the last one. I like thicker noodles and garlic, although I haven’t tried raw garlic in my ramen...
Really intrigued by the herby butter not seen that before interesting way to add some fresh aromatics Do you remember if there where anything special in it or just a café de Paris style? As always great content, you just make me wanna take the next available flight there! Keep up the good work!
So as you already answered my question in the video... I know 5 points for me for jumping the gun... let me amend my question somewhat do you think this could become a thing? And what other herbs do you think could work? Like rosemary butter, mint butter (don’t really believe in the last one but hey who knows) etc.
Thanks for watching! I think rosemary butter would be interesting, whereas mint butter might clash with the creamy chicken soup. While the mint can cut through it all, I think rosemary would do a better job there. Something similar to that, maybe even thyme? Great question 😊
Hi Frank! What a great video 🙂. I really liked how you took the time to explain more in depth about the diffrent ramen restaurants, the area and ofcourse the soups (taste, ingredients, broths).🍜 The two that looked most appealing to me was the Tantanmen at the second restaurant and the clear chicken at the third restaurant. I don't like when the ramen are to heavy. One thing I have wonderd a lot about, how can all of us that don't speak or read japanese order from the ramen places maschines? They all seem to have japanese text. Is there a system that are the same on all maschines? I'm allready looking forward to your next video. As soon as we can go to restaurants more easily I will try a ramen restaurant here in Stockholm. Untill then I will follow you and learn more about the diffrences between soups. And one more question. Do you know any japanese online store that sells instant ramen to other countries? Thank's for great content!
Thanks for watching and I'm happy you enjoyed this video (including the more in-depth explanations)! Nice ramen choices - I myself have trouble with the heavier ones 😊. My recommendation for any ticket machine is to go top left - this is where the signature ramen should be located. Price-wise, it will likely be around Y800 to Y1,100 (the latter will probably have more toppings). Please stay tuned for the next video and I hope you can visit a Stockholm ramen restaurant soon! As to instant ramen, a company called "ZenPop" delivers instant ramen seasonal packs from Japan. I believe they deliver to Sweden too!
Thank's for your answers! Guess I have to figure out how to use them closer a trip to Tokyo. One day I will get there (the plane tickets are so expencive). Is it possible to book a ramen tour with you if I ever visit Tokyo? Zenpop I know, I'm a subscriber of their ramenboxes same with Japan crate (umai crate). Love to get them once a month and "pimp" up the ramen. Was courious if you knew more stores than me 🙂. I look forward to your next video 🍜🙂.
Both great bowls, can just scrap the raw egg there at the end 😄 Not a whole lot to see in Tsukuba but maybe that's part of the appeal. A great place for ramen!
@@5AMRamen I think tsukuba would be a good place to live in if you still want to be close to Tokyo but not in the busy city itself. the Tsukuba express is very handy to travel to the city.
I knew watching food vids was a bad idea but "just one!" had one that had my favorite things...niboshi, tantanmen, and miso so now I'm headed downstairs for a "mazemen" (ie instant yakisoba but I add niboshi oil, fried crumbled sausage, and a raw egg). And speaking of shrimp oil...I just had dried shrimp oil, shrimp dashi double stock tonkotsu ramen with powdered dried shrimp. Yes this is why I can't lose weight.
You sir, are a big ramen aficionado yourself! Most people don't even know about niboshi, let alone using a niboshi oil! Hope that mazemen with the yakisoba noodles and that oil was tasty, along with the other bowl with the shrimp oil / tonkotsu double stock 😅
@@5AMRamen Yeah I had the ebi ramen at RamenNagi. I'd do it at home but I'm the only one that likes the smell. Same complaints when I make niboshi oil. Ramen is the perfect expression of "surf n turf."
@@5AMRamen Not the one you see here, but right behind the ramen shop you see. Dont remember the name! They heat up the soup with a hit stone so funnyyy!
Miso ramen often uses pork bones for a creamy richness - maybe a spicy miso ramen with a long-boiled pork bone (tonkotsu) base? Or perhaps back to back spicy tonkotsu ramen or miso ramen! 😋
I understand where you're coming from. I don't slurp other noodle dishes but I do slurp my ramen - this is how we eat it in Japan. Please mute accordingly 😁
5 AM Ramen From what I’ve read from a book, isn’t it kind of insulting to the chef (in Japan) if you DON’T slurp the ramen? Slurping is how customers show that they like the ramen... Me, I don’t mind it at all 😉
Yes, slurping here is a sign of appreciating the food 😊. Another reason is that ramen is served piping hot in Japan (never just warm). Slurping helps cool it down too!
Covered a lot of ramen! What bowls strikes your fancy?
Miso ramen is always my first choice but I’m always open to try new things.
The second shop looked the best to me. Both bowls were tempting in their own way. Special green butter and their take on Tantanmen.
@@nobufelipe3969 Miso ramen hits the spot like no other, especially in the colder months!
@@cmkfatt1 That was a great ramen detour. Modern and smart ramen at its best with those 2 dishes.

That's on the to do list! Will include some of my favorite spots in Tokyo 😊
Omg that spicy ramen looks phenomenal! I absolutely love ramen and would love to visit Japan one day to try the best of the best! Love from Canada
