The California "digital goods" law is about 20 years too late. (The other "one click" cancel law seems good-ish) It would have made a difference then, but now the psychology of online "purchases" having disparate licenses is already well established / accepted even if it's not in any consumer's best interest. In other words, we've all bought into this paradigm now, unfortunately.
Bought the licenses games, limit time like what 5-15 years or until the game not worth anymore, they remove from store cause limit license game. Just like deadpool and rocket leagues then.
I think the new laws are great for consumers. A lot of businesses really rely on customers forgetting to unsub or not being able to figure it out or customer service pretty much refusing to let them unsub. That subsidizes the low price they offer to new subscribers. The price of subscription services may go up a bit, but the price will be more honest and allow customers to make a more informed decision about what they're getting into.
While these laws are only applying in California right now, it's going to have a massive impact across the entertainment industry with how much of an economic powerhouse the state is.
