Don't forget French and Italian as well (the fencing styles I study). And some Viking (round shield training). And English if you count Longbow shooting...
Hey Captain Xavier, you should join The Saber Legion. We use HEMA (sorry if misspelled) style fighting techniques in full contact dueling. This group is getting fairly large and it sounds like you's enjoy it
As a pool noodle doesn't have 'blade bite' like a light saber does a hand guard could be beneficial. To make it not optically intrusive I suggest gluing a ring of (same color) larger diameter pool noodle to the base of the blade.
Now I see why the Hammershot is such a useful blaster! When you're using a shield in a Nerf battle, you need a blaster that can be operated singlehandedly, and the Hammershot is the only hammer-action blaster that's not too small, but not to large*... *(The Doomlands' Lawbringer is simply too bulky for this purpose...)
What about adding a female hook onto it so it can connect to your vest? It'd be menacing to throw it over your shoulder and have it on your back while you're running someone down.
+Captain Xavier You are awesome. Nerf m, Star Wars, HEMA, and now shield tactics! I would be very afraid indeed to go up agains you on the battlefield.
Please demo this set, I want to see it in action. Especially the shield, you _say_ both holds work but that T alignment with the grips looks mighty tight in there, it'd be nice if you could demonstrate how you hold it comfortably. Aside from that, of course we need to see you nerd sabering the air and showing how well the shield covers you. Maybe show off the melee set with a ranged loadout?
Maglite or 1 1/2" drain pipe clips would probably allow you to mount the sabre on the inside of this so that you could carry it onboard & only deploy when needed.
You are not a nerd! You are normal to those that share you passion and dream. Personally, why didn't you find a way to put the handle of your shield on a 90 degreee pivot? This way you could switch from riot shield to combat in a instant.
Sadly, I don't think I filmed any of it. There is not much to see. I dremeled out the inside to fit, drilled holes in the PVC and steel to line up wit the screw posts, and screwed it together.
I got a cool idea for you captain Xavier, you like your modular air blasters, and i got a cool idea, you normally rock a shotgun style add-on or a single fire, well how about a clip fed attachment? I mean, it could be difficult, but it would grant you alot of modularity, and versatility. Plus, it'd be like a older gun where you have your standard gun, then you can switch to rifle grenades (demolisher rockets). But sorry that i didnt comment this on those videos. I do think this gear should work quite well and I think it's very cool.
I'm tickled to bits that you study Historical European Martial Arts. I'd actually watched this some time back, before I got into HEMA (Fiore, specifically, but that's aside the point), but I remembered just recently that you mentioned studying German longsword in a video. So I went hunting, and found this video again. Maybe this is a sign I should throw myself back into Nerf modding like I used to. And yes, Liechtenauer would probably be dismayed at people using his system for foam sword combat. Then again, that's probably the only place outside of HEMA circles where it can really be applied XD
The problem isn't having a workshop, I don't really have a social life either but it's because being a chef and doing 12 to 14 hour days 4 to 5 days week doesn't leave a lot of time after spending time with the girlfriend and family.. nerf when I can but not as much as I'd like
that pool noodle for you sword isn’t big enough it must be enlarged and i know it’s possible cause i have one of the enlarged size and it’s awesome it feels like a buster sword
I don't know why but the image of Captain Xavier in his full tack gear and just pulling the lightsaber at a war would just send shivers down my spine cause I know I'm about to get my butt kicked
I would rather have a round shield and they make riot round shields, but that is just my prefrence, Never thought about using a sled as a shield, good idea Capt!!
It would depend on the motors. Voltage, torque, etc. Someone send me a link for some super high APM motors and when I tested them they had no torque. Took forever to rev up and then had to re-rev after every shot. Worthless.
Captain Xavier They are these motors. Motor 370 (4200 RPM) (Animus) by Helion RC. Don't know what voltage or torque but I tested them out in a circuit recently and it worked pretty well.
Your should make a compact mini gun that has a proton pack mounted on the side. Maybe even make a tank easy to swap the empty one. Basically a massive rival drum kind of like out of darts side hopper Hera.
@@CaptainXavier think of it as a Jupiter with a tank that can be easily swapped like a mag sort of like if you carried a perses with a few extra hoppers full of ammo.
Where did you learn your shield tactics? I was a member of the SCA in a roman house hold so learned them there as well as the use of the oval greek/cavalry shield.
It all depends on the situation. If I am fighting in a shield wall I much prefer the Roman style shield. Fighting single I much prefer a medieval style shield. Same with the sword. If I am fighting with a shield obviously I would prefer a broadsword (or a knighty sword) but if I am fighting with just a sword I would much prefer a Longsword.
This is 3/4 in I think. But it depends on the pool noodle. As far as I know there is not international Pool Noodle Standard Committee that dictates in the inside diameter of Pool Noodles...
hey Cap, I was wondering does a nerf dart fit through the barrel of a BOOMco blaster? Cuz I was wondering if it's possible to integrate the shell of a BOOMco blaster to a nerf gun
Only if you use the thin walled still or if you hit really really hard. I was going to put something inside the PVC but I could not find a good fit. If it proves to be an issues I can always replace it later.
Captain Xavier I've made foam swords similar to this and a wood dowel with a few layers of duct tape (5-7 pending how much play you want in the blade) works well as filler for pvc.
and if he's outnumbered, battling on a snowy hill, he can ride it to escape!
Wow. Roman, Zulu, AND German style battle gear? You, my friend, are not only well prepared but also well educated in historical combat. Mad respect.
Don't forget French and Italian as well (the fencing styles I study). And some Viking (round shield training). And English if you count Longbow shooting...
Captain Xavier is any of that self taught
Oh great, he's got a shield now.
And yet...I suspect I will get shot in the back repeatedly by your and your bloody sledgefire anyway...

Hey Captain Xavier, you should join The Saber Legion. We use HEMA (sorry if misspelled) style fighting techniques in full contact dueling. This group is getting fairly large and it sounds like you's enjoy it
and you can still use it in a Winter Nerf war as a mode of transportation
Link would be proud.
I suspect the window would cause some nasty drag...but other than that, yeah, it would work great.
very good point
Captain Xavier maybe you can make an attachable plate to put over the cut out
Captain Xavier pffft... spray it with pam. send it
Captain Xavier you could makeshift a cap for the tip using a pvc cap and a thin sheet of plastic or cardboard to hold the noodles
Cool- I love these loadout videoos!

The saber is way too long to mount inside the shield. The Lightsaber bayonet on the other hand...
Now that sounds like a plan!
Awesome, and you made a proper training sword there, I need to make some swords for the boys and I to use.
using a sled to make a shield is an awesome idea! ive been trying to figure out a good way to make one, i think ill be using this method!
A huge nerd you are! And so am I. Anyway, such a cool shield and lightsabre they are. Now I'm interested to see the roman style combat in action...
have you thought of mobility with the shield, it could give speed and stealth if you could put the shield on your back

good point, but also moving parts tend to wear with vigorous use, so it may need more maintenance

Man I bet that's gonna be fun. I miss being able to do stuff like this
okay awesome video you have to reinforce those handles I would suggest a plastic sheet
I really want a build video on that light saber. It looks great!

I would have gone with gsg 9 shield handles, horizontal on the bottom for your arm to go through and a diagonal top handle for your hand
Would be great if you could make one with a translucent blue or purple colored material. Then it would look like a Gungan sheild.
That little boxy nub on the light saber hilt, near the pommel, that isn't a rail attachment, is it?
If not, why not?
NIIIIIICE GOOD JOB CAP
That's a nice sled you attached a handle to
2 handles actually. I also added a view port. :D
Captain Xavier if you're fighting someone during a snowstorm, you can hop on your shield and barrel down the hill towards them for a fear tactic
liked what u did for the shield it's given be a new idea for tinkering

Do you think you could make a flywheel blaster with RC motors? I've got some ones if you'd like to try it out?

I very rarely do larp fighting at Nerf wars but if i do I normally use a long larp knife and fight with with the blade facing down
I had an idea hear me out a ballistic sword can like a ballistic knife but shooting the fome pool noodle
where's the HEMA group at in Washington because i have been looking into it and i wanted to try it out
There are several. I go to Grit City HEMA in Tacoma
I like vertical center grip shields, but my background is more viking than roman.
Will you be adding holsters on the inside?
Cody Norvell I put a dump pouch and 2 mag holders on mine the work amazingly
That really seems like a Captain Xavier type thing
Ha your a huge nerd and yet I'm jealous of that loadout. I have to go process this revelation.
:D
Don't worry, you have the high ground!
I wonder if it is possible to do a juggernaut built a d cover yourself in shields XD
You make my Stryfe and Strongarm look like baby toys
hey Capt is the double strike spring a good upgrade for the hammershot
I have no idea. I would not think so.
Captain Xavier ok thanks for the info
Tyler McLean the double strike spring is a teensy bit too thin to fit it on the plunger rod
Like the load out very cool
Make an Orisa-esq deployable shield, it sounds like something you could do with PVC, Cardboard, and Door Hinges.
your lightsaber looks like a Duracell battery.

What size of pvc fits a pool noodle nicely?
This is 3/4 in I think. But it depends on the pool noodle. As far as I know there is not international Pool Noodle Standard Committee that dictates in the inside diameter of Pool Noodles...
Lol
hey Cap, I was wondering does a nerf dart fit through the barrel of a BOOMco blaster? Cuz I was wondering if it's possible to integrate the shell of a BOOMco blaster to a nerf gun
+Jake Tilbury no. BoomCo darts are smaller than Nerf darts
Dumb idea, you could put Velcro on the inside and mount smaller handheld guns/knives/sock bombs or build a holster for one or two handheld guns.
zerrico I already did. :D
Captain Xavier nice. I didn't look at the date of the video until after I made the comment. Lol.
I keep and XBZ velcro'd inside to take out opposing shields.
As a fellow nerd this is awesome
Threaded steel bar in the hilt? Good, then that means you can unscrew your pommel and end your opponents rightly!
...yes...that is exactly it...
i love your channel keep it up
Lmao, As a fellow HEMA practitioner, I whole heartedly approve XD
LIGHTSABERS!!!!!!!!! And blasters oh yeah the shield

out of curiosity. how did you finish the saber tip? In thepast iv seen construction regs that allowed for thrusting
IF the tip was padded with foam.
+Jon Tainter I filled in the tip with foam.
how deep? im not sure if "nerf" has a minimum thickness requierment or other such considerations
4 inches or so. There are no strict requirements because it is a "lightest touch" system. Also there is almost not sword on sword combat.
thank you
Where do you learn or participate in these different styles of combat
I took fencing in College to learn some of it. I also studied HEMA. But mostly just lots of practice.
now I want to duel you with that saber

Can you strike with the shield in melee? What if you padded the edges? Too ugly?
+Chillburn in padded, probably? I do not recall as I did not have a shield before and almost always blew peoples shield up.:P
Do you know how long an actual lightsaber prop is?
Near as I can find they were around 3 feet long. Mine is a bit longer than that.
Gameplay?
Handed weapon called the foam-saber.
I am not sure PVC is a good material for the core. My understanding is that it is prone to cracking and it is sharp when it breaks.
He can pull a breath of the wild and shield surf to get around
