I had an amazing time working with Michael on this song and I can't wait for everyone to hear it. I wanted to share some thoughts relating to this video with other producers, singer/songwriters/vocalists. I've been writing and recording songs for 10 years and I used to be incredibly insecure about my ability to sing. I love songwriting but I hated singing. I'd watch producers chop up my vocals and tune them and I'd have to listen to a loop of my pitchy voice repeating over and over until it was made "right". Tracking vocals gave me anxiety. My ear knew what the performance needed to be and my voice could never get there. 3 things helped me overcome this:
    1. A producer that finally said to me "pitch is not king, performance is". I always prioritized pitch above all else. And because we hear music all day long on radio that is corrected or witness singers whose pitch is really strong, it's easy to lose confidence in yourself. It wasn't until a producer made me feel comfortable in that space and said, "Don't worry about getting it perfectly right, just go back to how you felt when you wrote the song" that I started to sing with confidence. Then he would compliment certain parts of the performance. "I love that breath right there!" I love how you said this phrase". Highlight what the singer is doing well. As an artist, I can't tell those of you who produce how important it is to communicate with your artist in whatever stage of recording they feel overwhelmed by.
    2. Don't be afraid to go for the long takes. Michael mentions in this video that we do full song takes. He was surprised by this approach when we were working together. It is so easy as a singer to obsess with getting things just right when going phrase by phrase. It's why I've stopped doing this. I sing the whole song from start to finish. It helps me step into the emotion of the song. Every line builds upon the next. Rather than singing 5 words over and over and over and trying to get it "right'.
    3. This is for those of you who struggle with pitch and want to improve. You can take voice lessons, yes. However, what helped me more was setting up a camera and audio recorder and recording live videos of my songs. That's why you'll find so many of these videos on my channel. It's not just about content. It's about growing myself as a performer. When you listen and watch yourself sing and pay attention to the parts that make you cringe, your brain actually starts working on those aspects of your technique. For 4 years now I've been making one take, live videos and if you go back and watch the first and then the most recent, I guarantee you'll see a difference in my performance. Not only that, the videos from years ago were 1 of 15 takes. Now I do 1 take. I take pride in this. It's important to remember this is all a process. We're all working hard to get better. That should be the goal! Embrace the process and make getting better the priority. You'll be surprised by your progress.
Hope some of that insight helps! We should all work to encourage each other in what we love doing. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!
Thanks for what you do Michael! I'm having a blast working with you.

@@OnlySufyanKhan When I was 18 someone told me "the only way to guarantee failure is to quit". Sounds like a cheesy bumper sticker, but it really stuck with me. If it's something you love doing, make your priority growth, not perfection. 100% you'll look back every year and be grateful you didn't give up. The compliment I appreciate most from fans is "I admire how you've grown since you started". Giving up is easy. Most people do. Just keep going!

Just a tip to make keeping the natural breath sounds little easier, is when you use the cutting tool, and right click on the vocal to fix the sound, simply don't do that to the breath parts. They will sound the same and you can leave them in without having to chop and cut them out from the original track.

Awesome! Same here.. Im still struggling with getting the vocal sound I want but Im starting to think it might be due to using a USB mic, even though it has smazing sound for voiceovers and softer singing... Not so much with louder style, more intense vocals... Almost like its clipping the internal preamp even if the input is only hitting - 6db...very frustrating and makes me self conscious.. But more on the way! Keep pushin! - Adam Melton from MeeZy StudioZ

What a superb tutorial. Bravo 😀🎵
I'm executive producer on a new single, and wanted to give input to my engineer-producer on our vocalist's lead track, where I think edits are needed.
After watching your video a few times, I upgraded my FL Studio Producer to Signature and followed your steps to make edits to parts of her vocals. Then I passed that to our engineer-producer. What an excellent workflow. He knew exactly what I wanted from that.
As a singer-songwriter, I sing all of our demos. Honestly I'm often going into off-pitch-land in my performances. Now, thanks to you, I have an awesome tool to fix my demos before I hand them off to the musicians to get them to record the final takes. Brilliant!
I also love your suggestion about using NewTone as a tool to arrange vocal harmonies - and even migrate some parts to instrument-melodies. I see huge possibilities with that.
Thank you for your incredible training videos for us FL Studio guys and gals 😀🎵

Usually when I mess with the autotune newtone I always get the thing you were talking about in 16:17 with the raspyness in the breath/inhumane voice quality, but it's not only to the breaths, the annoying sound also spawns when saying the letters " S " and " F "
Can you do a video tutorial on that or at least help out by replying? I'm sure there are many others who wonder about this and how you can fix this.
In another pitch correcter there is a fix I think if you cut the tuning/autotuning entirely from the part when the ess'es or f's are heard in the vocal, but in FL Studio/Newtone I don't see any option to control the tuning of a letter in a word.

The thing is if i had never seen this video idk where my vocal tuning would be, producing hip hop is usually just autotune but there is a bit of vocal tuning involved, but it sounds even better when you just tune it. After seeing this i finally realized practicalls every song you hear on the radio has at least some pitch-correction of some sort on the vocals, and that you dont really have to worry about being a great singer. A magician of FL Studio. Actually I’m working on a quite similar track, and the vocals are not really perfect, and I’ve started get worried about. But then I saw this (matter of fact I saw it few years ago 😂) and now I get a more precise idea about how to work on my track.
    Thank you for your tutorials!
It really helps me a lot with the mix stuff 🔥

what i want to do is to completely change the vocal melody and stretch it to create a sort of adlips to it. the tutorial didn't include this subject presicely but i kinda got an idea on how do i approach the process
