Melanie was one of the coolest characters in Batman Beyond, had the show not been cancelled, she would’ve been the perfect ‘Selina Kyle’ type to Terry’s Batman.
Absolutely, it really makes me sad because the potential was all there. She was a really fleshed out character that I feel like could have been turned into a heroine down the line.

After Terry in grimace silently in shadow sending Melaine off arrested by police along with her family, he immediately apologize Bruce for his behavior. When Terry asked if anything happened like that to him before, Bruce told him a story about Selina Kyle.

I love her design. The way her costume is black and white tells you how she's "divided" even before she met Terry

She's like the reverse of Catwoman. Catwoman was a rich girl who was addicted to crime and didn't want to stop, Melanie/Ten hated being a criminal and preferred being a restaurant dishwasher.

@@KrysOfSorrow In the DCAU (which is the continuity that has Batman the Animated Series / JLU / Batman Beyond animated series), Selena Kyle was portrayed as being a wealthy socialite. She lived in a mansion, had a live in personal attendant, and went to the same fancy parties as Bruce Wayne (though she didn't like it).

I wish Melanie had more time. What I liked about her was how she had a convinces about right and wrong. And when she finally saw how her parents truly saw her that was enough for her to separate from them and really think about what something of a life. I was glad that at least she got to keep her brother Jack. Plus, her words:
"I got you a job. A REAL job...that is if you don't mind washing dishes."
You got to start somewhere I hope her life is better, heck I think she should have been the new Catwoman in Batman Beyond.
Maybe it was something planned on but never fettered out. She does have the Bat/Cat dynamic mirrored pretty well. She's able to take the lead with Terry as a man, but also known to and at odds with his alter-ego Batman. Shame it just kindov fizzles out quick.
Why should she be Catwoman from Batman Beyond? For starters, she as a person is way better than Selina.

@@Thalanox This could literally be any villain of any hero, not exclusive to Catwoman. And Catwoman just sucks, any other villain could replace her in that role. Leaving Melanie as a copy of Selina would only diminish her character, an eternal thief with no purpose except to flirt with the hero, while the hero becomes a idiot and lets her get away every time, that's ridiculous, it just diminishes both characters..
Melanie once served the trope of being the thief in love with the hero, and overcame it, redeemed herself and became a good person and helped her brother, that's a hundred times better than being stuck in an eternal, meaningless cycle that will never go anywhere.

This show is hella underrated. And Melanie is prolly one of the most well written villains I've seen in DC Cartoons. The writers actually gave her a better life instead of keeping her stuck in the criminal life and that's such a nice touch to her character.
She was really likeable. She was working hard to build an honest living and truly cared for Terry. But she could not turn her back on her family and that was used to pull her back to a life of crime. It was very satisfying to see her win a small victory by giving Jack a second chance, too bad he wasted it in the comics.
@cartoonistlouis773 True. But sometimes being forced into a life of crime isn’t the same as choosing the path of it. Melanie was forced into a life of crime because of her parents.

I wish Batman convinced more of his villains to repent. But you couldn't really reuse the assets if you rehabilitated them or killed them off.

Terry didn't have to read the note, in fact he already knew what was written. It's just bittersweet that this romance never saw light in the animation. However it was as beautiful as it was fleeting. Melanie was just so wonderfully written. Gosh, I love this channel.

That both Melanie and Terry knew it could never be, though as Melanie lived in disbelief for a brief moment, Terry knew that he had to let her go. This is how I took it. But honestly? From what I hear they are together in the comics. So Im all down for that

One comic shipped them together which made me 10 times happier than never with Dana

They made a lovely couple, two damaged souls leading alternate lives who found each other. Was quite disappointed that the show creators decided to split them up. 10 by name, 10 by nature

But, it appears to be from a fanfiction because as I recall the justice league epilogue ends with terry accepting he was always meant to be Batman and calling his lover he has something to confess to her the next day, also I suspect the reason why Bruce lived for so long is due to his exposure to mystical beings and energy's which somehow manifested itself into his willpower and alternative ego as batman.

I feel like she would have been a better partner for Terry then Dana. Not only could she handle herself in dangerous situations instead of the normal damsel in destress. Plus in the comics, they are actually together and fight crime together. She’s basically Terry’s version of cat woman.

You'd think she could be more patient and understanding about his time, but she never was, often to the point of consistently wanting to break up with Terry. How is she a trooper and patient again? And how was Terry flaky and mentally distant considering again, full-time student, part-time worker, full-time superhero and still trying to balance his time with family, Maxine, and Dana? Terry’s big mistake was not telling Dana, his friends, and his mom “Mister Wayne gave me more hours, it’s late nights, but it helps with the bills and it’s setting me up for a career.”
That being said, Melanie or Chelsea would be a better fit for Terry. Chelsea because of “The Last Resort”, where unlike Dana, she both sees and appreciates Terry’s heroic side. Melanie, because despite everything that’s happened, she would understand (and would probably piece together) all the weird hours and last minute complications involved with Bruce.
Max isn’t the only one who could put the pieces together, so it comes down to who is long-term material and who could accept Terry’s extracurriculars?
What I love about the relationship between Terry and Melanie is that Terry has to carry a lot of guilt and burden silently to help Melanie. He can’t reveal his identity to her, and as a result, she feels abandoned by him. Terry can only really help her as Batman, so he can’t be in a romantic relationship with her without revealing his identity as Batman. It’s a great relationship that helps to flush out many of the flaws to being a masked hero.
I like how her costume design seemed kinda friendly and unassuming compared to the others in her family who had sharper and “meaner” silhouettes. It really made her seem more neutral in a way
It would be cool to make a movie or series Batman beyond with Ten as one of the character. And the costume design also should be like this. I think it is cool

there is talks. Warner is run by idiots. animated side knew the subject, but the movie side never did, except for batman. They can give Batman a needed pause and give this a try.
I will never forgive the writers for making Terry end up with Dana instead of Melanie at the end.
Then again, it was probably for the better. I mean, Terry already has a girlfriend. Why need two women in his life?

I believe it was a clear parallel between Bruce and Selina Kyle, their relationship wouldn't easily work long term if she were a criminal. They also wanted to show that Terry managed to go through similar things as Bruce and still make clear choices about his life find balance in his relationships and make his life not all about trauma and mask but also functional double life.
Dana was someone he knew someone he trusted and in the end someone he loved. Sometimes great chemistry is amazing for the thrill but to build a long term relationship you need different balance
I SO wanted to give Melanie a hug when she found out Terry got her note.
I'm glad they made her part of the Bat Family in the Batman Beyond 2.0 comics.

As a kid who also grew up in nineties I would disagree. Jinx, Vi, Ekko, Silco, Mel, Belmont, Isaac, Sandman -- there is no shortage of charismatic and stylish greater than life characters in media. You just have to look for them superheroes and supervillains a little beyond greedy old comics companies that are led by greedy marketing teams instead of writers and designers.
Melanie deserved to shine more in Batman Beyond, but I'm glad she got out of that toxic situation; real family duzent do what her parents made her do, tho Jack clearly had a better bond with his sister since she bailed him out, and he gladly went straight and was appreciative of her helping him and getting him a job
That is her true family member.
Well, in the Batman Beyond comics, Jack went back to his criminal ways and crowned himself the new King of the Royal Flush Gang, and Terry/Batman, Melanie and even King/Dad teamed up to take Jack down. And later on, Terry and Melanie got together as a couple after Terry and Dana broke up for good.
I agree. I'm glad she still had her brother & they went straight. It was different from what they had, but not necessarily a worse 1. Also like her brother said, he was the best dishwasher in juvi, he would probably be the best dishwasher at the restaurant too, that might get them both tips, & both working with their pay together they can get a slightly better apartment.
we want more, but the story is complete. The problem is that she has more air time , so we connect more with her, than Dana.
Batman Beyond still holds up as a wonderful series
Her bailing out her brother and them hopefully turning over a new leaf is a good way to wrap up her story. Why Batman Beyond was cancelled I'll never know

0:37 It's hard to describe, but scenes like this really outline the strengths of classic animation for me. Everything pops, it's pleasing to look at, tangible, like you can feel it. And that's because you could.
It uses a minimal amount of colors with high contrast and sharp lines. This style is also unique to batman beyond. Other batman cartoons don't have the same aesthetic.

Man I miss this show. Batman Beyond felt like nearly every episode had a strong emotion to it and a lesson with it. We've all met a girl like Melanie. Not really friends but not really in a relationship, just living in the moment. Like the chemistry just clicked and was wholesome. Always back and forth but in a passive way and how things would fall apart passively and come together just as it was. I was with that with a certain girl who I couldn't just say no to whenever she would want to come back. It felt like it would never end, when she told me she didn't want to be that way again. But few weeks later she would change her mind as we would always be in the loop for year. It wasn't until I had to finally say no to her as I was going to my bus for track when she wanted to try things again. Arietta

Batman did let catwoman go once, it was the time after she was supposed to be reformed she scratched him and he didn't pursue her.
She's a teenager, both her and Terry. They're only 16-17 years old. Even if she was sent to prison, she would've likely only been sent to juvie.

They honestly should've brought back Dick in the Show or at least the movie but the movie wouldn't work because Robin wouldn't have been kidnapped and tortured if Dick was there since he would patrol gotham with Dick at night.

I love how they did her hair and I just like how she grew up as a criminal and Terry has a record, going to a juvenile detention center, but had a second chance to change. Looked like she was doing the same as an waitress at a restaurant, even involving her sibling
Melanie should've completely walked out and go with Terry when she was given the choice before queen bugged her at the elevator, could've had a great life being a hero and not have so many bad moments.
