Happy days from the sixties ,we always went to swanage for the holiday but always managed a day trip on the paddle steamer ,then on the train from pier head ;steam hauled ,always struck me having been back a few times would be a nice place to retire to and even now at 70 can’t help thinking about it ,look at the railway in the days of steam ,it was a Victorian throw back and they have only now stopped using London Underground stock from the 30,s.
Arghh, Nicholson's chemist shop has gone.....but amazingly my old surgery still exists.. as does hotel Ryde Castle where my parents had their wedding reception in 1959. My father appreciated seeing it again after all these years. Thanks
I've only just come to know the Isle of Wight, as to a couple of visits to people i know in Ventnor. But it has a charm and atmosphere about the place, that is pretty difficult to describe and explain. I really like these videos, and they capture much of what i feel about the island, as a whole. Relaxing too, the bobbing up and down in walking, and there's usually always a serenity throughout. And, there's a Codfather fish'n'chip shop up here in Suffolk too. Now thinking it's a chain (shock, horror)!! : ) Anyway, nice video, as usual. Next time i'll drive past Ryde on the way down!!
@@darrenmcposstot8200 it’s a retirement tourist area, there are some really cute ones for sure but you can also hit up Southampton which is a ferry away for more choices haha. It’s really gorgeous down there though, never snows, they have palm trees, it’s really the “island life” and every Sunday they do this “car boot” thing, it’s pretty huge in Ryde. Extremely friendly too.
Just been to Ryde and bought fish n chips from cod father shop 🐟🐠. Isle of white is just beautiful.
nowhere near as good as the chippys doon north Berwick pal, sorry 👍
Awesome video lovely hydrangea bush too
The seafront's looking particularly lovely this year with all the flowers - I think the constant cycle of rain/sun/rain/sun has done them good! 😊
Lovely view of the pavement
Top tip: raise your eyes just a few millimetres and there's a whole world above the pavement!
I went to Ryde as a child with the school and I still remember how beautiful it was
So many changes over the years.but great to see the esplanade from this side of the road.many happy hours spent in the arcade.
Born and breed on the Island, lived there for 55 years, but never see anyone I know in your videos
Funny, that - I rarely bump into people I know on my walks, and I've lived here for decades too! 😅
