The simple fact that the owner allowed a DELIVERY MILEAGE car of that rarity to be driven on a track is one thing but to allow it to actually roam the streets where it belongs is utterly mind blowing. What a legend. What a video. What a car! Bravo...
@@lawrenceturlej4772 I talk to these owners everyday for my job and their problem is that you have to work an absolutely absurd amount to afford these cars. Combined with the fact they likely own at least 5 to 10 other extremely desirable cars, even 500 miles a year on each is 5000 miles a year. These are busy people and they really only get to drive them often when they retire. I drive the hell out of my E30 and Rover SD1 but I also don't have to continue working after clocking out.
FINALLY! Decades ago, around year 2000, in the early internet, there was a website showcasing cars under the manufacturers names. There were many cars in that site, but under the name miscellaneous there was this one car that I found fascinating and extremely beautiful. At that time, I did not understand what miscellaneous meant, and I just thought it was a manufacturers name. Years later I tried to find that car, but upon further inspection I realized what miscellaneous meant, and was so disappointed and lost. I searched for that vehicle for years without ever finding it. Now, today, about 20 years later I stumble upon this video, and flashbacks hit me harder than theia did to earth. It is this car, I have finally found it! I can finally frame a photo of this beast and put it on the wall of my garage.
Top notch video. As far as the owner goes, cheers to him lending it out for a drive. Also shame on him for allowing the car to only collect thirty one miles in the previous thirty two years.
Owner isn’t a car guy, just a snob who has the car as an investment because he’s addicted to money. He easily has enough other sources of income and cars that keep their worth/multiply it. Not driving an 962 thats made to be abused in bad weather is just disappointing. Exactly the behavior you expect from greedy old money snobs. No gasoline in their veins, just cash and gold.. But it’s his car and his decision, I just don’t like it. But I’m nothing but a poor peasant who wouldn’t even be allowed to talk to him.
What a beautiful car!! The Ferrari F50 resembles this Porsche soo much, especially the rear area and it’s huge wing!! Since this Porsche is a 1992 and Ferrari didn’t release F50 until 1995, I wonder how much influence this Porsche had in the F50’s design?…
Thank you, Simon Kidston, for what you give us, the common enthusiasts, in the process of running your business. Saw you and this car at Retromobile today, and it was a pleasure. If some fellow motoring journalist deserved this privilege, it was definitely Dickie Meaden. Great work. And Sam Riley is at its best here.
Thank you Mr Kidston for putting you money and time in to putting these videos together so the rest of us day to day car fans get to appreciate cars like this at home. What a pleasure to watch.
3 for the road: Schuppan 962, Walter Wolf's 935 K3, Count Rossi's 917. Something about Porsche racing cars' makes them irresistible as road registered converts.
I just watched the lovely episode of your late father's Bugatti 57 (that you had posted a while back) and wished to congratulate you on the wonderful story. Thank you for sharing such a splendid story and automobile.
Love to watch anything involving Dickie and Anglesey. Brings back all the years of my international subscription to EVO magazine with Harry Metcalfe at the helm. Plus this 962 is utterly brilliant 😊
absolutely fabulous piece of video.... As always, from Simon Kidston and team, and great driving from Dickie Meadan, making us all dream about this monster.
How was it a great video?? Where was the engine talk and the engine footage? Where was the focus on the car? I mean there was plenty of shots of some limey dude driving a car and talking about himself but that was about it.
Thanks for this. I’m from Whyalla, South Australia - where Vern grew up. My Sunday School teacher was Vern’s brother, and mate’s Mum used to race go carts against Vern (she claims she used to beat him too!). Thanks for posting.
Wonderful video Simon, and thanks for putting Dickie in the car!!! We need to see more of Dickie, he's one of the great testers and drivers, he knows how to bring that message across.
I wasn’t even aware of Simon Kidston (or this car in fact) until now and that feels almost criminal! Firstly, I’m a Porsche guy and for me to not have known about this car has blown my mind! 🤯 Also the production of this video was amazing and genuinely one of the best car vids I’ve enjoyed recently… and I watch probably 10-20x a day! 😂🤦♂️ Great job guys!! 👌
I don't wish to criticise, but it would have been nice to have had some static shots of the car first, as I imagine quite a few viewers (myself included) are unfamiliar with this car and it's hard to take in the details as it's flying past on a track. Anyways, thanks for sharing this.
So happy you were able to drive this car. Big props to the owner for "taking the wrapper off" of a delivery miles car. Please, drive it more. It's what it was meant for.
I'm sure it's a long walk back to civilization. I'm old enough to remember when these were new. I'm sure it's a great car but, I much prefer the look of the Dauer 962. And so does the Sultan of Brunei. The Dauer race team raced 962's back in the 80's and 90's. If memory serves, I think Jay Leno may have driven one of these on his show. I saw a silver one for sale back in 2019. Thanks.
Schuppan has too much of 959 styling for my taste. Dauer is definitely the more desirable road legal 962. Now we just need to get DM one to drive and compare the two.
This is fantastic. I remember reading about them back in the days they were new. Awesome video, where you really appreciate Dickie’s fantastic driving skills in what must be a beast with the boost turned up
Damn this retro-review made me wish for the 919Street even more! Still hope that Porsche had found out a way like Mercedes to adjust the LMP1 engine for the road ....
the worlds fastest car in 1992 was the Dauer 962 LeMans with certified 403km/h on the VW testtrack the McLaren F1 set its record that was beaten the same year by Dauer ... it was the better looking road going version of the 962
What a great video, no shouting just joy and appreciation with everything being well articulated. It felt a lot like a Hagerty Henry Catchpole video. Great job Team you got a subscriber out of this South African.
What a car, my favourite modern legend. Congratulations for the contents you always bring of the highest quality. Keep it up, foot firmly on the pedal!
I think I'd be happy to walk back too Dickie, the experience of being behind the wheel of such a machine would be well worth it !! Magic & huge thanks to Simon for being so magnanimous with such a rare beast . . . Thank you gents, just wonderful !!
From the camera’s perspective those A-pillar looks to create massive blind spots. Can’t tell from the drivers perspective but I suppose 962 drivers generally don’t have to look anywhere but straight anyway!
Whooooooha! What a beautiful machine! I've never seen this special before....Koenig C62 and Dauer 962 were pretty raw road formulas but this is much more composed and balanced like somehing between Gumpert Apollo and Maseatti MC12.....
Marvellous to see such a towering motoring piece being driven at this level and described by a driver of the calibre of Dickie Meaden. The sheer high production standard of this video, its emotive element and the car itself almost brought tears to this old ex 964 owner in Sydney. Many thanks and a new subscriber you have Down Under - David
I'm so happy they actually drove this thing for once, Secondly I really hope this isn't the last time it does so and third and finally this thing is absolutely spectacular!

What a beautiful machine. Great to see it driven. Such a shame that most people that can afford these machines treat them as a speculative asset. They deserve to be driven and shared with the public. Great video!
I saw this thing at goodwood and honestly it is perfection. Very few other cars came close....including all the brand new hypercars and speedtails and whatever, its beautiful.
Fabulous review and film making- Dickie Meade’s and the BS962CR- it had such a brief moment in the spotlight between the XJ-R15 and the F1 - I can’t remember much of a full review in the magazines, this film has put that right. Thanks for the ride, keep it up folks 👍

That's the way they retain a really high price. Not by driving them sadly.

Wow, thank you
Thank you for driving this car. They were meant to be driven. Delivery miles don’t exist in my world

wow i thought I'm in evo for a second

This is such an absolute masterpiece of a video. So glad I found this.
Short and sweet. I love the video, but I wish we would’ve seen more of the interior and how everything works.
I didn't learn much abour the car, sadly.
For whom a Ferrari F50 was too mainstream... Thank you for sharing this flame throwing piece of automotive art. 👍
I think this is much prettier than the F50, I dig the minimalist look.
I love the Teutonic simplicity of its appearance. An elegant body which belies the Group C madness underneath...
I saw this in a video game call forza horizon and there’s a photo mode in game - it looks glorious from every angle.
Always loved this and the Dauer 962. It’s good to see it driven as intended.
What a machine, a proper race car for the track. A dream to own.
