Great show! Very much enjoy watching and learning. Just as a reference for raised bed gardeners like me, I have beds that are 4 x 24 ft x 12". I planted one bed last year, 3 rows, 1 ft. apart and 8" spacing and did very well with the Temptress corn. We had well over a 100 very nice and full ears. Pre-plant fertilized with the Complete Organic Fertilizer and when the stalks were about knee high, I alternated fish emulsion and 20-20-20 weekly. Also gave one good shot of the Chilean Nitrate. So, it is possible to grow corn in a raise bed.

Old Goat hanging out in the stirrup hoe over Greg's right shoulder! We're looking at 27 tonight (Fri), with a touch of snow, and 21 tomorrow night. Luckily I've only got onions and English peas in the ground, except for a few brassica stragglers still going. It's gonna be rough. Ok, so now I'm straight......Peru is in Central America and Christopher Hoss discovered corn and brought it over on the Mayflower. It's insightful info like this that keeps me coming back every week! I did some experiments with Three Sisters plantings years ago, and had some success. If I was limited in space I might try it again, but I've gotten better yields on all three plants growing separately. Pollination on the corn can be an issue if you plant in "hills" like the old timers and Native Americans did (and bury a fish in each hill). I grew sweet corn, a pole bean, and yellow summer squash when I did it. Thanks for another great show, and getting me fired up about corn! I'm almost out of last year's!!

I was wondering if the microwave would kill the nutrients in foods? I've wondered about that for years. Does anyone know? GOD bless

Any method of heating can destroy some nutrients. Just depends on how long you are cooking the foods.

Natives Mr. Hoss. The Native Americans saved the Europeans from starving the first year that they came.

so in reference to the 3 sisters-I thought that growing beans used the nitrogen themselves while growing, then after they died provided nitrogen to the soil from the roots, assuming you are leaving the roots -- is that not true?

We have never tried this and not exactly sure how does this fixed nitrogen would become available to other plants, in what quantities and when?
