@@Coolclimatetropicalfruits I got ShanXI Li and Li last early summer, Li has grown a little bit , ShanXI Li did not, it may be just this variety grow very slow? I guest... Let's see what happen this year...
I just got Shanxi Li & GA866 jujube trees, I’ve tried both varieties before it’s tasted really good liked you said when it’s half green, half brown, I just can’t wait for the fruits on my new trees.
Usually you have nets to stop the birds. Do they not mess with this one? I have the same issue with my li jujube not growing in the four years I have had it. It hasn’t grown at all but is loaded with fruit each year. I hear that it is important to prune these in a special way to encourage growth but I haven’t pruned to try this out.
Lovely food forest there👍. Our dwarf black mulberry is huge also. We're enjoying our dried Li jujubes. Heavy pruning very necessary this year here in zone 9b water restricted and drought plagued central california usa. Thankyou
Nice to see it’s raining Jujube in Fruitopia, my Sherwood second year has put on some growth in very poor soil but was heavily mulched & manured before planting + lots of rain this season.
I got two new Jujube last summer not this summer that just went last summer from daleys . They just started growing this summer but all the new growth they had this summer just fell off so I am back to where they started. The wired thing is I got another one from a diffant supplier and it has grown like crazy weird. I planted all three the same and they all grow next to each other in the ground. It was a shit summer this year even my egg plants never happened. So lets hope they kick off next summer.
Instead of pruning, try using a chainsaw and cut the trunk about 1.5 m from the ground. Much quicker, and it’s likely that the tree will put out new growth the next season from where the cut was made. Won’t probably fruit that same year you cut it, but comes back normal the next year and will be much easier to handle size-wise.
Very Nice Garden! I have been trying to get Jujube trees for years here in New Zealand, but we don't have anyone selling them, real said state of affairs!, I would love to get some seed from you ?, I know you will probably say no.. but hey you have to try, I got a 100 seeds from china nothing sprouted, got some from America nothing sprouted, I contacted Daleysfruit they won't send to NZ, tried to get seed out of dried jujube from a Chinese shop, but there is nothing in the seeds. Wow might have to move to OZ at this rate that's OK half the people I grew up with live there now. New Zealand is becoming a bit too Third World.
Mine took a while to mature. They do like sun. You may need another jujube for better pollination . I only have the one tree and it still produces. Dry hot climate here zone 9b.
What I’ve learned from George: Find what grows in your area, push the boundaries and experiment a little and grow your own fruits…. It’s easy, fun & satisfying. Been watching this Fruitopia for a few years … George has inspired me 👍
@@RealLifeFruitopia Well, after spending one and half year looking after the plant was disappointed at no-sweet-at-all fruits. Any special tricks to make them taste better?
I've been itching to replace both with mature guavas which are flushing with new growth, but a part of me says to wait till spring to see how jujubes respond.
TH-cam read my mind again, I need a jujube tree but I will have to sow it (or buy it abroad and bring it illegally), nobody sells jujube trees here but there are some trees around.
If there are trees around, get the owners to let you dig suckers off their tree. Get them growing and then come back and get wood from their tree the next year or two and graft it on your suckers.
Very nice, they are good beach snacks with the salty mouth

For whatever reason the birds leave them alone, most of the time.
They might like more sandy soil, perhaps a oh problem,.U can get those ten dollar pH Meters at Bunnings they r good. Try top-dress with gypsum maybe.
They go dormant in a few weeks, will deal with them in late winter.

I have 40 trees in, but they are young yet. Do you need to water these trees a lot to support all that fruit production?
In summer, yes.

This method may not work on every tree, but I think it will on most medium sized leaf-trees
Thanks for sharing
Hi George what is your favorite jujube tree?
Li so far. Waiting for first Sherwood.
I only have the Sherwood and Shanxi Li jujube. The tree is still in dormant. Hopefully, I get fruits this year. Can you grow apple there?
Apples do really well here, including other cool climate fruit, like berries, kiwi and cherries.
How old is your Chico jujube tree please? I bought one, its quite small, just wondering how long they take to grow?
It's 8-9 yo
Love your collections please give us a full tour of your current trees
Will do soon

We have strict rules when crossing into other states, so you're not alone. Good luck.

Jujubes don't seem to grow if another bush hides the sun. The second you give them full sun, they take off.
That seems to be the case with my Sherwood. I'm sure it will take off once it's tall enough to get sunshine.
Same as my ShanXI Li ,I brought it 7months ago , not growing at all! Same seller as your plants
Interesting
Very nice.. Prices are crazy … $30/kg for the fruit and >$100 for a tree.
Yeah they are still expensive grafted trees averaging between $80-$150 each.
$15/kg in my local area for big fatties the size of billiard balls.

Why does my jujube li taste bland?
Depends on your definition of bland, jujube is less tasty than most apples.
