As a long distance cyclist for over 50 years, I was deeply touched by this video. Well done - it communicates what bike touring is all about: “The sights, the sounds and the way you feel, when the world expands from a spinning wheel” (from a poem I wrote after one ride in 1974) I highly recommended reading “The Handsomest Man In Cuba”, a very entertaining account of Lynette Chiang’s solo bike ride around Cuba.
My favourite part of this was when you showed you have friends in half the cities on the eastern seaboard, and then still described yourself as an introvert. Also, great work, this is legitimately really impressive
@@sweetpadreIntrovert doesn’t mean you don’t have friends, it means being around people drains you and you need recharge time. As well as being more okay with being alone. It doesn’t mean you’re anti social
@@reginayan One of the best adventures of my life. I also noticed on the ECG page that you joined their alliance. Congrats and keep posting awesome content!
Simply awesome! Thanks for sharing this remarkable experience. Glad you kept it straightforward, personal, and non technical. Never even said anything about your gear-such as what kind of bike you ride. Very enjoyable to watch. And what an adventurous, brave, and intelligent person you are to have embarked upon such an extraordinary cycling adventure essentially all by yourself. Such an inspiring story.
Excellent storytelling, excellent video editing, powerful takeaways and one heck of a bike ride. This might be one of my favorite TH-cam videos of all time. Thanks for sharing the journey so transparently. I think it really captured what “type 2 fun” is all about. Your story will serve as an inspiration for many to get on a bike and to also appreciate life. It did for me. Thanks Regina!
@@reginayan Great video and great adventure. Only small problem i noticed is that music is sometimes way louder than voice (around 8 min) makes hard to hear what you are saying. But overall great video keep it up :)
A hundred and forty miles on the first day with no training? Acadia Maine is ten miles from the Canadian border. I have ridden about 45 miles in one day without training and I can tell you toward the end of the trip I didn't want to sit on that bike seat any longer, let alone get up the next day and do twice the mileage. Bar Harbor is an island. Twenty miles in two hours is hardly rolling, you have to be doing 10 miles an hour, with no brakes, in traffic. I can't watch anymore, it is a great story. I love how you are biking in northern Maine in late September without a jacket. Pawtucket RI in the rain, no rain jacket, late September, wow, that had to be extremely cold. Can you say hypothermia? Great story.
Yes and when it rains & one is riding even in the summer months it gets cold, how she was able to endure it without a raincoat is amazing, 140 miles with little training amazing too, She can easily compete in Ironman .
Interesting that she said 3000 miles the route she took is around 2300-2400 miles the reason they say 3000 is because they include other routes like the Buffalo NY, still to do 2400 miles nonstop in 30 days for someone that has not trained or has not done long bike rides prior is amazing but a bit questionable but either way many seem to have loved her story & that's what it is all about www.google.com/search?q=calais+maine+to+key+west+florida&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS881US881&oq=Calais%2C+Maine+to+Ke&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgBECEYoAEyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigATIGCAUQIRgV0gEJMTIxNzhqMGo5qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chro
I’m glad the TH-cam algorithm worked and suggested this amazing video. Clearly one of the best videos I’ve watched about just getting out and having an adventure. Can’t even imagine it must have taken to turn the pedals the first time in Maine. So much unknown lay ahead but you persevered. Thank you for sharing this amazing journey!
this video really touched me. my mom was a touring cyclist in the 90s before i was born and I'm really falling down the same rabbit hole myself (riding in the NYC 5 boro bike tour this sunday!). I really connected with your openness around the challenges you faced on this trip. as i look into the future and think about long-haul bike trips like this, you've made me even more excited. thank you for your great storytelling!
Greetings from Newcastle upon Tyne / England / UK . . . . I could hardly believe what I seen at 5:38 on the door of the bike shop, a poster showing the label of a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale, our famous beer. Fantastic video and it was a joy watching it. Very well done, you are great. 😀
Really enjoyed your video. I was baffled how you know all these people and how you just meet new people as you go. On top of that you said that you're intravent.
Congrats to your achievement. I have done a 4,000 mile bike trip from Germany to Portugal and back, a 6,000 mile trip from Germany to Turkey and back and a 10,000 mile trip from L.A. to Alaska and back. All in 1988 thru 1992. I now live in the DC area and I have to say that I'm done with riding on roads. I would love to do the east coast greenway or a trip across the country from west to east. This is too dangerous IMHO. Now its gravel trails and MTB for me.
Great video! I'm really glad I found it. I do a fair amount of bike touring and I'm trying to figure out "what's next" (I did the Pacific Coast in fall 2022, and Lands End, England to John O'Groats, Scotland May of '22; I've also done Oregon to Boston and New Orleans to Canada in the past). I'm 66 years old (and very extroverted!) and your video has really helped me want to do the Easy Coast Greenway!! I'm quite impressed by your mileage too! (PS - I've never seen the sunrise on a bike tour...). Thank you for sharing.
Regina, WOW, just wow! What a wonderful accomplishment! I agree with other comments that this is one of the best videos of a long distance ride. Amazing how you categorized a month-long trip down the East Coast in such a short video yet I didn’t feel cheated and you inspired this 80-year old to not put off further enjoyment of my bike. Thank you.
You rock girl. Keep traveling whenever you can. I waited until retirement but after losing my wife and I don’t have the money to pay for it. Don’t hesitate, you never know what life has in store for you in the future. Safe travels, keep smiling, and take care.
Congratulations on the century, that's awesome!! And thank you for watching -- I didn't really go into this, but I bike commuted to work which was ~20 miles a day, so I did have a solid base leading up to the trip even without any specific prep. Also, slow & steady is the way to go on these haha so what I lacked in speed & power I made up in hours-per-day haha
Great video. Our two experiences were very similar to each other. After graduation from UCLA in 1991 I drove with friends to Lewiston, ME and set off by myself to Miami, FL. I camped, stayed at fleabag hotels, and stayed with friends. I met my girlfriend in Washington D.C. and almost decided to finish. Continuing on, the southern part was harder because of not knowing anyone. The longest day I did was 95 miles. I did 2,000 miles in 40 days (30 days of riding and 10 days off) In 2012 I rode from Madawaska, ME to Lewiston, ME and still need to ride down to Key West. The amount of miles that you did was simply amazing. Great Job.
Congratulations!!! You inspire me and I’m an accomplished amputee cyclist. I rode 16k miles in 2017 but never did anything as epic as this adventure. Excellent video quality in telling your story. Isn’t it amazing how much more we are capable of in comparison to our opinion of our abilities. BRAVO 👏🏻
