Mark I have a last second kayak camping trip coming up. Hoping to head to the ADK. For a beginner fly fisher are there any species I can realistically target on fly this time of year. Or should I try and use spinning gear? Love your stuff!
You'll still be able to catch bass on streamers, but you'll want deeper and slower. It will be a tougher time fly fishing than spin fishing because of the deeper part. But I still fly fish even this time of year. At the high point of the day concentrate on the edges of whatever weed beds you find left and boulders for pike too. It can still be done on the fly. Just think "how would I fish this with spinning gear" and then figure out how to do the same thing with your fly fishing gear. Good luck with whichever you choose!
