  • Ever since I started getting interested in paddling, Tumwater Canyon has captivated my attention. I have spent countless hours attempting to learn about the rapids of Tumwater Canyon, despite the fact that I am a beginner, and won't be able to kayak rapids of this caliber for years and possibly decades. Despite this, nothing captivates my attention more than big water runs of this magnitude, and therefore I have spent a concerning amount of time trying to track down any video footage of any paddlers who have attempted to run Tumwater's big 4 (The Wall, Chaos, POW, Last Exit) POW and Last Exit in particular caught my interest due to the size and violence of the holes at higher water levels. However, nothing has left me with my mouth hanging open to the degree that kayak runs down Last Exit have. Last Exit is a relatively short, yet extremely powerful and violent class V+ drop just outside the town of Leavenworth, and is rarely run by kayakers. Even at low water levels below 2,000 CFS, the rapid is still horrifyingly powerful and steep, and therefore is rarely run by kayakers. I have spent countless hours tracking down most of the available kayak POV runs of Last Exit, and wanted to compile them in a single video and share them with the paddling community. The majority of these videos were taken from the old Facebook and Vimeo profiles of the late and great Sam Grafton, as well as Benny Marr, and Aniol Serrasolses, who have posted some of the only GoPro POV videos of Last Exit that I am currently aware of online. So sit back and relax, and enjoy these absolutely incredible runs by Benny, Sam, Will, and Aniol!

Thanks dude. Still can't really believe Sam is gone... It's only been around 2 years since his accident in Ernie's Gorge, and it still hasn't sunk in completely. I'm thinking about trying to post an entire compilation of all of his Tumwater and Stikine videos that I have been able to track down. Dude has some of the most impressive kayaking videos known to man, and was just the kindest and most sincere dude eve. Miss him so much man, thanks for watching!

Looking at Exit from the road at 10,000 cfs and it looks impossible and terrifying.

9k seems like a random roll of the die to get through. I get their skill level is top tier but holy cow it feels like purely reactionary. No possible way to run a line.
