The problem is country music radio plays trash these days. That’s why I just plug in my phone and play Charley Crockett, Randall King, etc. Can’t stand what country radio had become
I hate to say it, but without satellite radio, guys like Charley wouldn't get airplay at all on commercial radio. It's a real shame that we have to pay for great music when we used to get it all for free. Outlaw Country!!!
Lord knows how many times the great James Hand had to play for a near empty room of drunk people for a hundred bucks just like it's depicted in this video.
Working out in Florida. Due to this corona situation, haven't been able to see my wife and 3 month old for 2 months. Took off and got on three connecting flights to make it back to Memphis to get them and bring them here. Hell of a haul but I finally made it back and heard this song. Perfect. Thank you for this song.
And I was feeling bad because I’m stuck with work for a few weeks in OK and hoping to back it back to the other higher elevation side of TN to see my wife and three month old.

Hey Charley Crockett... Thank you for representing an ecclectic sound of classic East Texas - Louisiana Folk/Blues/Jazz/Gospel/Soul/Zeideco. Thank you for dedicating yourself to the true art of music.
This cover just elevates this song. Even though he's from Texas, his time in Louisiana helps him sing to the spirit of the Deep South like mostly only blues men can...
Wow, Charley sure knows how to pick them! This song was written by legendary songwriter Tom T. Hall in 1969 and I believe this is the best cover of it --- hands down. Great job Charley! By the way, for those of you who aren't familiar with the songs of Tom T. Hall, check out his greatest hits, or whatever. The man has written some very good songs.
@@TheVeek192 What in hell is wrong with me promoting Tom T Hall for the people who aren't aware of him??? Do you honestly think the whole fucking world knows who Tom T Hall is?? You come across as a fool. Don't be a fool.
Video is so sad cause now we've lost James Hand. We had a phenomenon and nobody much cared. It's a danm tragedy RIP James Hand. I'm never gonna stop trying to get you to become the Mega star that you've always deserved to be.
C.C.,Thank you for your kind words and praise for Slim. He left our world way too early. I am glad he called me "Pal" for 52 years. Respectfully yours, Denver
Rest In Peace the the man I grew up listening to in the bars in west, Texas god bless that man I can still hear him playing in ol mynars or wolfs god gained a great one. RIP Slim
I’ve been living for about 20 years now and came for the love of my family and music and haven’t left because it’s a great little city. This song will be in my head for years to come.
Thank you Charlie Crockett for honoring a great talent such as James Hand. I saw him at a small honky tonk in San Antonio and as Willie Nelson said "He was the real deal". Glad I bought one of his cd's!
Damn boy this needs to be on country radio now.Your are what country radio is missing. You my friend are a legend in my mind.God Bless you and your music.I cant get enough give this dude some likes so he can be discovered. We need you on the big stage boss.
Seth Jenkins they rather have stupid ass rap crap that sounds the same that focuses on Disney teen kids and women in college thinking sex and drinking is good thing
XM radio, channel 60, Outlaw country,. You can hear Charlie Crockett and many other artists that you don't hear on regular FM radio stations. Check it out.
Tom T. Hall. One of the greatest songwriters of all time, regardless of the genre. This song, Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine, Ballad of Forty Dollars, The Homecoming and on and on. Pure country gold!
I'd never heard of Charley Crockett before tonight. I just happened to come across his 'Lesson in Depression' and decided to watch another. I was pleasantly surprised when I immediately recognized James Hand in this video and heartbroken to read of his passing. It's a strange feeling. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Charley Crockett has to offer while mourning the loss of Slim.
I cannot wait to see you at The Outlaw Music festival this summer at the original Woodstock site in Bethel NY this summer.Awesome voice and I love your style. Thanks for sharing.
A dynamic blend of Americana's sound; with an understanding of the common man's voice~in this gifted singer/songwriter. Enjoying his spin on traditional music in 2022! :)
For example, my across the street neighbour’s daughter 12 years ago was named Memphis. Having never been to the place of the name, this one is funny that way too, but still really great.
I'm being exposed to all these great artists I would've never heard of if not for you Charley! Just wanted to say thank you for your music, I'm sharing you with everyone who'll listen here in L.A. Hopefully you'll do a show around here soon enough, it sure would be a treat to be able to support & see you live. Keep it up man, you're broadening the musical horizon of many a young man, more than you know. Thanks bud.
I have never been to Memphis and I miss it already.
Memphis is a hell hole
Q
You'll miss anywhere else when you get there
No you don’t
You misunderstand the song.. Memphis is where ever you are drawn to and need to go.
😢I miss you my grandpa
Oh shit... that's James Hand...
Can’t wait to see him in Memphis this weekend 😍🔥
This guy is exactly what country music needs! Would be grand to turn on country music radio and hear Charley
I don't even like what they call country these days, its pop music with cowboy hats that never met the sweat of a brow, this is country
It'll never happen.... he's too much country.
The problem is country music radio plays trash these days. That’s why I just plug in my phone and play Charley Crockett, Randall King, etc. Can’t stand what country radio had become
one day i'd love to host my own radio station and play classic country and newer stuff like this that has that old sound
@@14gears55 check the songs slim the guy in the clip does himself
A classic written by Tom T. Hall.
This is one of the saddest old school country songs that it's hard not to feel the pain
I feel the same way about Fool Somebody Else by Charley Crockett
Ol Slim, God rest his soul. He was a mess but a joy to hang out with.
Charley Crockett, Tom T Hall, James Hand... absolute legends, each in their own right
RIP James 'Slim' Hand 😢

Another classic song by Charley Crockett. I love how he pays tribute to the legends that came before with his own style.

This is probably the best cover of this song I've ever heard. Fantastic
I recommend you a Spanish version called asi llegue a granada, by Hermanos Cubero
I like Oliver Anthony, something good came out of Appalachia but I am still listening to Charley Crockett.
