Jon Q takes a look at an iOS app developed by Microsoft called PhotoSynth. PhotoSynth takes panoramic photos to a whole new level, with the ability to capture and view 360 degree photos! But.. does it work? Is it any good? Find out in this episode of WTA!

Hey Jon, try quickpick for the iPhone, iPod and iPad. This is a very interesting app for the iOS as it takes advantage of the useless space in the notification bar. The app simply adds shortcuts in it! I love to see how you rate it!
the reason the examples look so good are because it is probably taken with an actual camera and then they upload it to the computer and stitch it together with the pc software
just wanted to say, ive been following/using photosynth since it was first announced at TED, its a MILLION times better than it was at first....
ive been using this app for sometime this is awesome i used on my holiday to dubai and friends and family thought the pics were really cool

As much as I try, there are always anomalies when I do a panorama with Photosynth. Crazy overlaps, things that don't line up, etc. '360 Panorama' for iPhone works better for me.

My wednesday is filled with finals. Stress :\ I don't have an i-phone, but the application looks decent. Love the Jon Q talk. Freaking door. lol
Try taking a picture outside and the more pictures the better, have lots of light and it will work a treat!
it works better with wider panorama. that's why those outdoor shots look better.
360 paranorma is a better app when it comes to aligning pictures but i get it when it was free in the app store.
but none of these kinds of app perform well in an area where there is vast change of light within the picture. but it is still a cool technology nonetheless

You're not taking the pictures correctly. I am an avid DSLR Photosynth user and the biggest single tip I can give you is that you have to try to rotate your camera around the lens of your phone. If you are moving the lens several inches (or feet!!!) you will be getting vastly different perspectives.
The app works much better outdoors or in large places, being within 15 feet of a closed room it's not made for more than a few stitched pictures

@majestyy2k word up, ive made a few of my own, although, they arent very good, but i did it the old school way, with a camera, then uploading the pics to the site
If you have Android, try Photaf, it does the same thing, its been out ages and is very good.
@netlorens Photosynth is much more than panoramas, however their mobile app currently only shoots + views panos, rather than their radical photosynths.
iOS users can use the unofficial 'iSynth' app to view photosynths... but it won't load panoramas. D'oh!
Fortunately, on Windows and Macs, the Silverlight viewer just opens all photosynths and panoramas.
For an example photosynth of mine, visit bit dot ly slash orbitalsynth or search in iSynth for Orbital Propulsion by Nathanael.
Usually when taking panoramas (not iPhone's) in close up, things can get messed up

@That0neGuy0verThere I prefer AutoStitch it has panoramic picture taking and you can stitch camera roll pics buuuuut thats just me

mine works perfect :) you just have to take the pictures slowly and wait at the dotted lines
