We start off on our snow hunting adventure and land up discovering a fabulous old fashion farm in the middle of nowhere... actually it's not even that far from Cape Town, 236km to be exact. You will need to travel about 57km on a very well maintained gravel road if entering from the Ceres side, we did it with a Toyota Rav4 and a Toyota Corolla and were easily managing 80km/h along this stretch of road, if you enter from the Sutherland side you will be going a lot slower, navigating potholes, corrugations and small passes.
There is no electricity, cellphone reception or shops for 100km in either direction as well as having no TV or WiFi.
The farm does have a radio to get in contact with emergency services, if an unfortunate event should arise.
Candles and oil lamps are the main lighting source.
They do have fully equipped kitchens with gas appliances including a fridge and stove all cooking utensils cutlery and crockery are supplied.
There are also indoor and outdoor braai areas.
They have flush toilets and gas fired hot water showers.
    Bedding and towels are supplied.
Bizansgat is situated between Ceres and Sutherland in the Ceres Karoo also known as the Tankwa Karoo area and was well known during the “Forgotten Highway” era when people were flocking to get their share of the diamond's discovered in the late 1800's in Kimberley.
Bizansgat was a horse swapping station to enable speedy horse carriage travel to Kimberley in this era.
When the current owners bought this farm there was only ruins remaining, which they have restored to their original beauty and made it available as self-catering accommodation for those adventurous travelers or people that want to just get away from it all. There are various cottages varying in size but we were privileged to stay in the "Pioniershuisie" and the "Kraalhuis", there is also an "Ou Waenhuis" (Old Barn) which is hired out separately as an entertainment area for bigger groups on those cold winters nights.
They also have lots of open space for kids to be kids.
4X4 and duel purpose motorcycles are welcome to explore the farm (it is not a 4X4 trail though), a 2X4 with good ground clearance will get you everywhere you need to go.
If you lucky enough to meet Uncle De Ville, he will keep you entertained for hours on end with his interesting stories that really grab you and take you into the story.

Awesome video. I did the Vergete Grootpad in 88 from Sutherland to Ceres on a trip to CapeTown from Vereeniging. I left Sutherland around lunch time in dry weather and when I got to the Verlatekloof pass it started raining there and slipped and slided through the pass in my Volkswagen Beetle. As soon as I was out the pass the rain stopped and was dry all the way to Ceres where I spent the night before carrying on to CapeTown. Always have wanted to go back and your video makes it even more necessary to get there again.

I'm so glad I could give you a little nudge in that direction. It's a beautiful part of the country. The weather can change quite dramatically in such relatively a short distance. Be safe... and no sliding this time!

Hi Mark. It's such a nice part of our country, it,s so quiet you feel as if you the last person left on earth. You cant explain it to someone who hasn't been there yet themselves and as soon as its rained a bit, the most beautiful flowers pop out of this barren landscape... it's quite hard to believe that the plants have survived here for thousands of years only getting water a few days a year. I can understand why your dad did the trip many times, once you've been there you fall in love with this place! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and it's only a pleasure!
