Thanks for the video Jim. I had a trachy which grew quite fast once planted in the ground. Just in case you ever decide to move the phoenix, please bear in mind that at some point in the future the trunk diameter will get absolutely huge. Digging it up would be impossible at this stage although I'm sure you have taken this into account. Ideally they should be planted as specimen trees in large lawns. There are several here in Torquay that were planted in tiny front gardens of terraced houses and they were left to grow to mature trees. The owners ended up hacking off all the fronds leaving just the new ones growing out of 5 foot diameter trunks. They look awful. 😆 The only way to get them out would be stump out machines or mechanical diggers. Anyone from Torquay reading this, I apologise. 😟
Hello :) new subscriber here, i enjoy your videos! You have alot of information, i have my own channel, its small but ill put up some palm tree videos soon, i have lots of cordylines and a few other palms also, cordylines are very cheap and grow fast and can withstand the wind in Ireland
Lol Jim was just about to ask about winter protection for the phoenix 😅 answered my question at the end of the video 👍 was originally going to go with four wooden stakes & a polycarbonate sheet over the top of my ground planted phoenix so think I'll go ahead with that! Cheers for the info 👍
Hi Jim, My husband purchased a PC early this year, we planted it in the garden similar placement as yours. We purchased Green XL zip covers for winter protection. Its around 6ft in height but very slender looking, new fronds are growing but not expanding if you understand me. Will the Green covers be ok over the PC? 🌴🌱🪴
@juliebrace8637 Yes they will definitely help, but if you get under -6c will need to wrap trunk and growing point with more fleece. Removing all protection when above freezing to air the palm 👍

@MG63 I've seen it where I live (lowestoft) can't even see the house through the palm.
@@jimspalmsuk5098 Wow. It's great to know that they are thriving in different parts of the UK. Regards. 👍

@@richf_tropical_garden_projects They take the wind but definitely need a good micra climate for winter.
I have had numerous phoenix’s and never seam to grow at all 🙁
@james3368 They do very little until year 4 or five, then they grow fast 👍
