When I was in elementary school I entered an art contest for my local history museum and I was painting birch trees. I was scared to use a paint brush for the stripes because I didn't want them to be chunky. So I secretly used black nail polish that had a striping brush. I ended up getting my art in the museum and nobody knew I used nail polish! I felt kinda genius and sneaky ngl haha
I know a very talented lady who paints and makes cute sculptures and she says she uses nail art brushes for finer details, but she still uses acrylic paint lol.

So maybe there's a reason to not do this, but when I'm using nail art brushes, I always just poke the brush against the plasticy part of the nail polish's brush. Like I'll open the polish bottle, lift the lid a bit, and get polish on my nail art brush from that. It feels less wasteful (and is definitely less messy) than blobbing polish onto my silicone mat. Obviously that would be harder to do with the fan brush, but it works well for striping/detail brushes and dotting tools. Also I'm a little surprised there isn't a Holo Taco cotton holder tool thing for when you want to use acetone to clean something but you have polish on. I have a Maniology pinchy thingy that's super helpful for cleaning stamping plates or my silicone mat without letting acetone touch my nails or my poor eczema-covered skin.

Get a sponge that acetone or non acetone remover won’t melt, cut it to size. You want to be able to roll with a hole in the center. Put it in a small jar like a baby food jar or a small jelly jar. Pour in the polish remover. Now you have an almost spill proof bush cleaner or quick nail polish remover. As the remover evaporates. Just add more. You can do the same with alcohol for gel polish.

"Vegan" brushes always baffled me. Like, I get that they're less absorbent so they don't soak up as much product and may be more resistant to acetone damage, but selling it on the "vegan" ideal is ridiculous. Animal hair doesn't hurt the animal to remove, whereas some "vegan" fibers are made from petroleum and coal and result in highly toxic byproducts, so they're not actually less harmful to make.
Part of the "cruelty free" label includes how the animal was acquired by the fur farm/facility and how it's treated or cared for when in captivity. How the hair is harvested from the animal also depends on where the bristles are sourced and what laws that country has regarding animal welfare. While anything synthetic may produce byproducts, it does exclude the animal. There could also be other reasons (religious, medical) why someone would prefer synthetic to animal hair as well. It might not be a perfect solution, but it ticks a lot of boxes for many people (synthetic is also usually more affordable). - I'm an artist and painter. I hope that helped answer some of your questions.

Still seen as exploiting the bees, so harvesting animal hair is also seen as exploiting the animals. *I'm not vegan
Holo Taco actually has an extremely small profit margin compared to other indie polish brands. They only use high quality and cruelty free ingredients that are sustainably sourced. They pay their employees a living wage. They do their best to always make exciting and quality items and don't inflate their prices even when some of the premium ingredients go up in cost. They just take the hit. That's extremely admirable, generous, and how you create brand loyalty. Yes, holo taco can be pricy compared to a drug store brand. BUT compared to other indie brands, it's really not. Also, when I use a $1 walmart nail polish, it takes me sometimes 4 or 5 coats to get full opacity. Which means it takes 4 or 5 times as long to finish my manicure too. So you save a LOT of time using a higher quality nail polish. I can't afford HT either. It's a luxury that low income people simply can't afford or justify. However, that doesn't mean HT is too expensive. It's not for what it is. It's just too expensive *for me* to purchase. I empathize with anyone struggling financially. But please don't take that frustration out on an indie brand who is not responsible for how much ingredients and labor cost them, nor are they responsible for your, my, or anyone's financial situation but their own.

I just use a wooden clothespin for my cotton balls, works fine for me. A nicer tool would make for a better experience though
