Went out and bought dungeness crab just to try this out and had so much fun trying it out! It definitely does work and I was just amazed! Will pass this on to others! Thanks!
I recommend scrubbing the shell especially the 'fur' after cleaning guts out and before cooking. Less mud in the water/meat when done. I'll be trying this shaking for sure! Great tip!
I took the kids and a friend crabbing this weekend in Florence. 11-28-20. We caught 42 crab and I have been searching for an easier way to clean them. Thank you so much. This is amazing it will make my job so much simpler.
I told about a dozen people -- and I'm not one of these people who sends links all day long. I did try it, on 2 dungeness crabs I got at C***co (they sell them cooked and frozen, and the stuff keeps a lot better than most other frozen seafood.) I did my 1st two crabs in about 30 mins total, which is about half the time of usual, and had a terrific, hefty appetizer for 6. One caveat for newbies: do it outside or cover everything with newspaper, 'cuz the crab can travel. THANKS!
I'm glad you liked my video. I hope it will help you in the future. I prefer cleaning the crab before even leaving the docks to head for home. That way you don't have the smelly mess in your garbage cans. Watch my video on cleaning crab. Fast and Easy! I prefer to boil my crab with a heavy dose of Old Bay from any grocery store and yes this technique will work on cold crab. If you have any other questions let me know as I'm running out of character allowance. Good luck and tell a friend.
I do live in Port Angeles myself for another 3 or 4 months then moving out to Diamond Point. Thank you for your comment and hope this makes eating crab more fun.
I'm not really sure if it works on Blue Crab as we don't have any here in NW Washington State. If however you do try it on Blue crab and it does work please let me know and I will let people know in the write up.
Cool trick I tried it and I have notice that it also depends on how the crab is cooked. Not sure why but 1 time the meat was stucked to the shell and this method did not work :(
@fletcherejames1 So, I'm curious now after 3 weeks have passed if you have tried this trick with "shaking the crab"? If so how well did it work for you and have you told your friends about it? I hope it worked out well for you.
One of the best video's on how to take the meat out of a Dungeness crab I share the link with all my clients (I am a charter fisherman in Victoria BC) Would love you to do it again in High Def!
I'm gonna try it next week when I get some more Dungeness. I been getting a couple every week.. especially when they on sale for 4.98lb. I also live in WA... in Vancouver. I'm super slow at shucking these guys which annoys. Hopefully this will save me sometime.
That's funny that you caught that. I didn't notice it until it was uploaded to TH-cam. After shelling over 80 pounds of crab meat one little piece doesn't make any difference. Check out my video of us pulling the crab up and of the video of cleaning the crab they were shot on 2 seperate days of the same weekend. This was only a small portion of what was caught in a 2 weekend crabbing season.
2:48 - NOOOOO don't throw the meat away!! :( Great vid! I'll try it the next time. I'm one of those lazy eaters and don't like crab primarily for the work involved :P
Buffet restaurants ... beware! Here I come to shake some crabs out of your pot. Many thanks to Hillboy68 for the great technique -- It's so cool and I will definitely not afraid to eat some crabs like I use to hesitated.
A friend in Ssouth Beach, Oregon showed me that trick at least twenty years ago. It's amazing how many people don't know it. Keep up the great videos. I'm subscribing to your videos and would appreciate you doing the same. Jim
Great video! Both my husband and I enjoyed it and have now shared it with our friend who we go crabbing with..I was wondering where you lived....until you replied that you are in NW Washington to another comment! Thought so...we live near Port Angeles, WA
