This is probably the most professional interview I've ever seen him in. He seems eager to talk and is very comfortable with the interviewer. Well done.
When I first listened to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino I absolutely hated it beyond words, I was so sad and angry at the change from the cool Rock & Roll style they had in AM. But then I gave it a chance and I swear the more you listen to it and the more you understand the meaning of it, the lyrics and the theme it tries to create you realize it's a Masterpiece. An absolute Masterpiece. That album is something more mature and deeper that requires a bit of time to grow on you. But when it does it's really something else I promise. Alex you're a bloody genius mate, much love 🖤
@@AstroSully They can all be genius in their own way. but these songs are basically all from Alex. Especially on the last record discussed here. He showed them to the band and they filled in the sound. This is how a ton of their music is made. So I don't think it's too crazy to highlight that he's a genius to many people, in terms of lyrics and songwriting
This man has my deepest respect. As someone with Aspergers and ADHD, I relate a lot to Alex. Now I’m not sure if he actually has either of those diagnoses, but I feel a commonality at some level. The awkwardness, long pauses, and masked humbleness. Tranquility base has been my mental escape from harsher days for some years now. Wish I could thank him.
I also feel the same when I see Alex in interviews. I mean, here is a guy who writes fabulous lyrics and times the words well in his songs, but on the other hand here is the same guy struggling for words while speaking in a casual interview. It's like he's on the spectrum and yet he's still not. Really intriguing.
I totally understand.im so greatful to get my diagnosis soon now and I feel like I can look up to him in a way that I can't with other people.seenig him unmask is so empowering and I feel like I shouldn't care what other people think. He has such a calm vibe, and i thinks that he is very comfortable with Annie cuz he's body languages are mirroing hers. I think that Alex has such a brillant mind that is kind of hard to express what he wants to say.
This album is already a top 5 this year, his songwriting and the way the instruments are put together is so beautiful. I understand if you don’t like the album, but you have to respect how beautiful it sounds
You mean boring and spaced out. You'd think a band as technically skilled at their instruments would, y'know, use them to create a memorable moment, instead of this samey sounding trash. Listened to the whole album three times, and it legit could not tell one song from the other.
THE BRAIN SPECIALIST your supposed to feel spaced and and get lost in the lyrics and music, don’t have a mindset of “oh this is going to be another am and it’s going to have lots of guitars and drums” when this album is more of a book we’re you use your mind and picture what he’s saying instead of looking for hits
Kinda angers me that people didn't like this album cz TBHC defines what a great song lyricist Turner is and what a long way he has come as a vocalist, furthermore it illustrates how far they have come as a band and it was pretty obvious from their previous albums that no album of theirs was gonna sound similar to their previous ones and Tranquility Base was just an explosion but it's about time people understand that this album is a masterpiece.
I love how real he seems in this video. It’s like you just popped in for a visit and wanted to ask some questions and he sat there and answered them. It did make ma laugh a lot. Especially when his eyes get wide (rubbing his eye is a nervous tick maybe) and every time he says the name of the French studio he sounds like he’s being sarcastic. It’s hilarious. Can’t wait to see them in my city. Yes, the new album has a completely different vibe and sound that I was NOT expecting but as I’ve been listening to it I’ve sort of slipped into the mindset that they were in while making the record. It’s also, in my opinion, more mature and like they’re growing up and moving away from certain aspects of their old life that we glimpsed from the old lyrics.
I actually never was an Arctic Monkeys fan until TBH+C. I always thought they were decent but TBH+C just blew me away in a way I didnt know these guys were caoable of.
It's really interesting when you go through those old videos (like 2006 and so) where the whole AM were small cute beans, kind of surprised by the success. Then the Humbug era, later on SIAS with bikers, greaser hairdo and leather jackets, going into coked up (describing my feeling of it, not necessarily intoxication but then what do I know, it wouldn't change the way I listen to the music anyway) badass AM album... Not to leave out TLSP2 and Alex's flamboyant stage alter-ego. How such great changes can happen so fast, in music, style, the way a person talks and performs on stage. This interview seems like the sincerest one since around 2011. As if Alex tried these different personas, found out it's really not all that great and sort of came back around :)
Alex is really reminding me of Thom York in this interview. Based on what I've gathered through his words, it would appear that it's becoming more and more difficult for the band to develop things that interest them all musically. New album was interesting, not my personal favorite, but I'm just hoping it doesn't take them another 6 years for their next album.
It is strange that I can get every word and my train of thoughts follow because I think the same way and put the words in order as he does... when I speak. Love this
