Being that the Desert Hairy is nearly 4 times the size of the Stripe-Tailed, most people assume it also carries the more painful sting. However in scorpions, size doesn’t necessarily matter when it comes to their venom’s potency.

I held a stripe tailed bark scorpion yesterday, and after barely watching this I don't feel like what I did was dangerous anymore haha.
I stepped on a stripe tailed and it hurt so bad my foot was swollen and it hurt to walk on it for like a week or two

I'm a scorpion biologist. Fascinating vid! But I have one important thing to say:
The strioetail is NOT a stripetail. It is the yellow ground scorpion, Paravaejovis confusus. They are often confused but the easiest way to distinguish confusus from Paravaejovis spinigerus (stripetail) is that the latter has BLACK PIGMENT on the ridges (carinae) on the back of the tail (metasona). On confusus, the granules are indeed darker, but only because of thickened integument of the granules. Also, the hands are much larger in stripetails.

i moved to an area (mediterranean) with lots of scorpions. luckily i haven’t been stung yet, but not sure how cautious should i be not to step on one. during summer i often remove up to 5 every night from in and around the house. i found tiny ones which are yellowish or transparent, bigger ones (torso length up to 3 or 4 cm) that are brown, and also some larger black ones. they’re probably all the same species, just different ages i imagine. brown and black ones are easy to spot, but i found a tiny one in my bedroom and saw it totally by chance. kinda freaks me out if one falls on my bed and i roll over it or something. do the small baby ones sting the most? also i tried all kinds of lavender repellents but they keep coming. i also have a small cat, and it loves to chase insects (saw it eat a grasshopper)… how dangerous could it be if the cat gets stung, even more so if it gets stung in the mouth or throat?

I've been stung twice by the striped bark scorpions we get in central Texas. The immediate pain is about as bad as a wasp I'd say, but the pain itself is radiating and lasts for hours; like if someone was giving the injection site an electrical shock every few minutes for almost a full day.

I live in California and in my area we get a lot of scorpions. I just got stung by one today and man did it hurt. On was my left foot big toe and it even drew quite a bit of blood. It was a small one about the size of the small one that Peterson was stung by. I will most definitely be wearing shoes in the house from now on. 🦂
My 12 year old was just released today from the E.R after a baby scorpion stung my son 12x On his arms and legs. Thankfully we got him medical attention right away and he’s recovering great 😌

What I find interesting is the upward swing of the stingers. most media always depicts "monster" Scorpions as stinging with a downward movement but both these kind were an upward movement because of the curve of the stinger. not sure if that's true with all scorpions but it wasn't really a stabbing but rather a hooking of his finger and hand.
