@Aqouze I was in Thailand 2 months ago and seeing those elephants are one of my best memories ever. Something that Thai people should really be proud of. Very beautiful and amazing animals.
it is lovely to see humans caring for elephants (or any other wild animal) given that there's so much exploitation and cruelty to animals in the world. but really, if we were truly respectful to animals, we would grant them their liberty and allow them to live in peace in their natural habitats, free from human intervention.
Props to the dude who wasn't using a bull hook. I don't mind sticks, when they're used well. I ride horses, and sometimes you just need to use a whip, these are very strong and willful animals, and the use of "natural" cues sometimes just isn't enough
@Armyboitaylor Not really. To the elephants, those people are part of their herd. For them to be in the river together is a way to socialize with the elephants, like an elephant. Also, the humans can keep watch for potential danger, while the elephants bathe. For crowded areas like that, tigers aren't as much of a problem, but out in the boonies it is.
Avatarang2 does have a small point, it is amazing to see and watch, but every time the trainer wanted the elephant to spray water they hit the elephant on the head with like a rod thing.
The animals I listed went extinct directly due to human actions. I'm not saying that animals have never gone extinct before, that would just be foolish and ignorant thing to say because 99% of all life that has ever lived is now extinct.
Why when it comes to animals like these elephants right here, people think of them like slaves, clowns and being locked up? Lets be positive. They are rockstar elephants :)
@Aqouze it's nice to know that the elephants are being taken care of well i'd hate to hear these elephants being used merely for profit and entertainment like circuses
@L3S3R4 In mahout camps such as these, the mahouts are taught how to train their elephants without violence, and the elephants learns new behaviors and tricks to help earn money for their food, medicine, and to feed their mahouts.
You do know that animals don't go extinct only because of humans? Extinction is also natural and it always happned even before the human being. I'm not saying that man is not responsible for some extinctions, but certainly they are not to blame for a lof of them.
@Aqouze have right. Elephant need thai ppl. If u can see in this vid. How lucky the elephant are. And BTW im Thai too. See how much thai ppl learn them Like shooting a ball and playing basket ball. all these thing.
These animals are not playing. They are performing for their masters. Nothing is wrong with that either. They might or might not be enjoying themselves. But they are not playing. Also, there is something distressing in this.
mhm, so you're saying a certain turtle species didn't go extinct a few days ago? The mammoth didn't go extinct? The sabertooth didn't go extinct? The Caspian Tiger didn't go extinct a few decades ago? The majorcan hare didn't go extinct? Yeah, you're right, because the humans let those animals alone they didn't go extinct.
HAve you ever seen the Thai movie "Tom Yum KungW by Tony Ja the movie with the famous Words " Where is my elephant?" the man in the movie love his elephant ,right? so do the elephant's owners in the clip the countryside trainers take care all the elephant very well but there are some bad guys who let the elephants walk on the street in the big city . That's outlaw and i hate that elephant should live in the happy little ville with the people who love it
I agree there needs be money provided for the care of elephants that would be poached or starve if not in captivity. However I have watched some leaked videos of many men torturing baby elephants to 'crush' them so they can be trained to perform. If ANY of these 65 elephants were trained that way, or if any elephants are still being trained to perform this way....I will oppose all monies spent on the support of these men who torture and abuse precious baby elephants. It will never be right, will never be acceptable, and I for one will never support such methods to make any elephant controllable. Either it is done with love and patience, out of deep respect for their intelligence and spirits, or it will not be done at all!
To the idiots who think tapping an elephant on the head is hurting it, shut up. For one, their skin is insanely thick. Elephants rough house ALL THE TIME. That's how the wild is. Also, how do you expect the refuge to make any money if they don't do this? Obviously they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't HAVE to. Apparently donations are not enough to keep it running, so to keep the elephants happy and active while making money, they teach them tricks and do shows for tourists.

Not really, unless it's in the face. I think it's like that in most countries.

They'll go extinct if they free them and don't get human attention.
@ 5:04 , its so rude to point, especially in thailand.
It;s much better to see elephants in nature connected to people than in zoos. zoos should be banned.
