Have you lost faith in the two main parties? Feat. Owen Jones | Storm Huntley

  • Despite a landslide victory for Labour, they only had a third of the votes across the UK, with the Conservatives having around 24%.
And in Scotland, there was a collapse in the SNP vote - with a huge swing to Labour.
A similar story in Wales - the Conservatives lost ALL their MPs there.
But across the country there was a big show of support for Reform - the party came second in around 100 constituencies, with more than 4 million votes
And the Greens also saw an increase in their voter share and now have 4 MPs. And we have seen the highest number of Independent MPs since 1950.

@@shacklock01 yes corporate socialism benefits the corporations over the public ( socialism for the corporations and austerity for the public). Not to be confused with democratic socialism where the public funds benefit society over the corporations.
We don’t have any major political parties that are not socialist
      Ie they all have governments
A collective pot ( public funds/ sovereignty) and they all use taxation.
The all support free market enterprise
They Just have different ideas where the public funds are spent and what regulations they have on free market enterprise.

Generic definition - a political approach that favours free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending ( I'd also add to that weaponizing identity politics and other culture-war wedge issues. I suppose corporate socialism works cos both parties want to firesell every public asset off to corporations and then go join those corporations after their terms expire)

It is not a victory for labour, our voting system must change and i am so sick of labour or tory. No passion or hope for our labour government, id happily be proved wrong.

Disgraceful comment in the first sentence. If you respect democracy, you will not have any problem with opposing views. Jones is not afraid to speak truth to power and is one of the few analytical commentators with a coherent understanding of contemporary politics and history.

Why does she think it would be a massive change to swing from labour to reform when labour changed out of all recognition when it became new laour funded by corporations and wealthy people rather than the trade unions and started referrimg to ordinary labour voters as bigots when they raised concerns àbout the impact of mass migration on wages and public services. Reform is the only party addressing these concerns. Labour are more preoccupied with trans issues and carbon emissions

As a traditional staunch Labour voter I have to agree with you. I didn’t agree with Corbyn on everything, but at least he was a genuine socialist. Starmers Labour now are too focused on identity politics and are in bed with big business and no friend to the unions or working class people. I voted for The Workers Party, because there was not way I could vote for Starmer, he’s a pathological liar and a Red Tory who’s job is to maintain the status quo.

Not when you listen to the Mandelson rant on the BBC when the Islington result came through. He implied that the 24000 were voting for Labour and voted for Coorbyn by mistake. His horrid rant was not picked up by Laura Kuesenburg infact her contribution was what went wrong. Not even acknowledging that he had a strong local support. Mandelson his Starmer chief adviser so just think how bitter and twisted he will be when petulant voters question his letter leadership he can't defranchise them. When a person lies to get the leadership of the party do not expect him to change his spots now. We will see PFIs used to finance the NHS and the completely watered down green energy policy. The energy utilities are being bought back into public ownership at all. Starmer is a snake who actually has less than 34% of the electorate

    • @TheLukeLambert
      @TheLukeLambert 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

I think he wasn't really complaining about being driven out, more highlighting the fact that as along as the two main parties drive people out with division and infighting, it will cause those voters to, in turn, seek out other parties which will serve them better.
Also as a side note, Owen had numerous articles trying to appease people whilst in Labour, to which the left themselves disliked him for his allegiance in various ways. Don't agree with him on everything but he is at least consistent, and if not, changing tack for a solid reason as opposed to a pay off or something

Trad Tories need to stop being coy about what they stand for, and champion what they believe, otherwise they will just fade away
