I've had one of these for some years with a RPI4. I rarely use it, but i really like the design. It is a pretty cool retro-machine. My greatest fear is that I at some point wants to pack it and slams the screen on the joystick, which I had forgot to dismantle. Brutal metal-contruction! The great thing about having it with RPI4 is that you know you can get correct screen ratio and in general also configure it yourself. The downside is that you often have to use a lot of time getting stuff configured just right, even if you use preconfigured images - there is always fafferyfoo to be done.
How durable are the controls?
Looks decent enough, but it's a lot of money for a pi system.

You got to consider your getting a decent screen and working joystick with buttons. I would just get an older phone and load all these roms into them which a Pixel 3A XL is cheaper than this with an OLED screen at least.
Not about being broke it’s about the concept, design, playability…etc.
I can get anything cheaper console or handheld and mod the crap out of it.

Soul Calibur intro was chugging a bit, my 2019 Pixel 3A XL runs it smoother in Redream. Not bad for a case to hide as a mini Arcade.

I just got a 14 inch ASUS OLED laptop for $578 more powerful than this and can run all these games and PS2 games in perfect frame rate. No dedicated graphics card running on Intel i5 12 gen processor is abit of a beast for a laptop

not the most ergonomic thing in the world, but neat little package
At least that comes with a Raspberry Pi 4 so you aren't stuck with a Pandora's box with the same board and processor that isn't powerful enough to play Sega Dreamcast.
I might consider something like this for use on a plane or in a hotel room.

Easy way to get 18650 batteries is to go to a vape shop :)
The buttons quality really put me off. The units cost a fair bit of money and if you are planning to play it for a good deal of time then it will become a problem. In theory you can swap them out but after spending a big chunk of cash you shouldn't have to.
Main problem is the Pi4 price at this point.
