My best friend comes from a huge family with like 9 siblings, they were all homeschooled. They're all adults now ranging from 20 to probably 40 years old. They all still make very childish faces to each other and good friends like pushing your nose up and sticking your tongue out. I fucking love it. They're so silly but very successful and happy

I was actually the weirdo to a homeschooled girl her first day of junior year we were doing an ice breaker outside I wanted her to feel welcome but when I ran out of things to talk about was like “so do you have a boyfriend?”
And she just giggled and said no

I was homeschooled. My first “school” experience was college. The only shock for me was the sheer amount of drugs and drinking.
When I was a kid, I was always shocked at parents that sheltered their kid too much. It made my parents angry because they were making all homeschooling families look like freaks.
The only social awkwardness I developed came from a bizarre pact with my twin when we were four not to talk to anyone else unless it was necessary. I think that may just be a twin thing. lol

I have been homeschooled my entire school life (still debating on doing college) and the reason I was homeschooled was my eldest sister is autistic, she’s functioning but when she was young and diagnosed I cant remember if it was the principal or like the doctor who said this but they told my mom she wouldn’t be a functional person without like a grocery list of meds that would basically just numb my sister. My mom hated this idea and hated that they wanted to force my sister into their little mold so she said “fuck you” and home schooled all 5 of us kids and when my oldest sister got into an IV league college without taking any of those numbing meds my mom sent a copy of the acceptance letter to the lady who told her she would never succeed without being numbed and forced into the mold.

This is what real homeschooling can do. Your parents did an awesome job.

That kid who didn't know which clothes were "cool" is living proof of the intense pressure of conformity which happens in these institutional spaces. A person should be able to just be themselves and wear what they want to express their own identity. Public school suppresses that.

That’s not to do with age. Grown women spend a great margin on make, jewelry, nails, clothes, etc and they can’t help it

When it came time for me to enroll in kindergarten, my mom noticed that I was much much smaller than the other children. My parents helped me back. However, this was not meant to be a replacement for kindergarten. Rather, it was a period of time where I could physically and emotionally mature. When I began kindergarten the following school year, I felt much more prepared.

3:10 Yeah, some people don't teach you how to learn.
9:23 Please, at least the friend could have self-control.
17:13 Oh John, you are funny. But seriously should have asked what are steak fries.

0:04 as a teacher in my spare time, I'm not surprised WHATSOEVER that the only person on reddit who knows how and when to use the word "literally" correctly was homeschooled at one point.

@@rennoc6478 probably not for the reasons you think, I myself was homeschooled, and because I wasn’t treated very kindly by the then kids in my neighborhood despite it probably not being true, I feel like they would’ve treated me kindly if I went to public school and that’s why I’m not homeschooling any child I end up having.

Homeschooling makes you WEIRD. Like the friends I had that have been homeschooled have some kind of -off- feeling. It's hard to explain, but you just know.

Hearing all their stories, it's not the homeschooling that screws with them, it's the sheltering. The parents would fail to have their kids understand about outside culture.

As a Christian myself I despise when other Christians condem people who don’t believe in God, it’s half the reason why people hate us, that and all the hullshit bigotry that so many of the Christian Extremists spew out. Personally I’m the kinda Christian where if you don’t believe, aight, that’s cool, no biggie. Ain’t everybody gotta believe in the same thing as long as we all treat each other with respect, like real people should.
