      @@fadetoblack.- If you do research on XLR cables and many others you will find there is documented proof that there is no difference in the signal being delivered at various price points. There is definitely build quality and longevity benefits if they are being unplugged, moved, and plugged back in from a wear perspective, but $400/meter is silly in my opinion. Is there any documented readings you can provide actually showing these provide something different than Monoprice, Blue Jeans, or other various levels of cable manufacturers? When moving over to digital cables like HDMI it is even sillier as they pass data so it either works or it does not as long as it is shielded enough for the environment they live in.

      @@fadetoblack.- My friend, I've tried expensive cables ranging from Amazon basics to some borrowed 4 figure cables from a buddy. I'm sorry if my post came across negative as it was not intended.
      I can say confidently, and perhaps due to my ears only such as your experience, that I cannot tell a difference as long as they're adequately shielded. I do not use bottom of the line on anything, but I'm also not spending silly money on them either.
      This argument is as old as A/V though so no need for the back and forth as many do, I respect your opinion and even more Paul's. I just felt a little devil's advocate was due since all levels of experience may read these comments, have a good night man

      @@fadetoblack.- power cables, speaker cables, RCA interconnects won't take it to the next level! They all have very little affect, no audible difference as long as you get a well made implemented one that are up to spec.
      You can get RCA interconnects from the likes of Van Damme (used in many top recording studios worldwide) Blue Jeans etc for reasonable prices with specs as good or better than the likes of Synergistic Research etc.
      Audioholics have tested measured fairly cheap but good interconnects against expensive ones like Audioquest. And the cheaper ones actually measured better.
      Synergistic Research sell a lot of snake oil like there hundreds of pounds for a single fuse! No offence but educate yourself buddy, if it sounds too good to be true from the product description then it usually is!

    • @C--A
      @C--A 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justeric78 You were just saying the truth dude. Many blind tests have been made and people couldn't tell if it was a £20 power cable, interconnect or a £2000 power cable, interconnect.
      Plus the measurements of the cables show the very expensive ones don't measure any better than the good cheaper ones.
      Companies like Audioquest & Synergistic Research ripping off people for thousands of pounds cables. And hundreds of pounds fuses!
      The more sites like Audioholics educating people so they don't waste their money on snake oil the better.

    Hey Bro I dig your set-up and enjoy watching your videos, I'm a 52 year old white boy, from New Zealand and I'm sick as a dog with a fever awaiting my covid test results.
    Thanks for sharing your set-up it looks awesome and I bet it sounds even better, I have a modest 5.2 set up with Wharfdale 9.5 fronts and center, Onkyko SKF 4800 rear towers and a couple of Yamaha/Jamo 10'' subwoofers hooked up to a Yammy RX-V483 Reciever and a 65'' Phillips TV.
    HiFi gear is expensive as in NZ and I have teenage daughters that come first course.

    Congrats on all the shiny, new toys. And welcome to the Dirac club. I think the detail and separation you're now hearing has more to do with the improved impulse phase and time alignment, coupled with DLBC, than it has moving to straight separates (see Emotiva MC1 vs Onkyo RZ50). To take advantage of the DLBC, but keep a more natural sound for 2ch, just drag the curtain during the Dirac calibration all the way to the left, and stop at around 100-200hz, so it only corrects the bass. Save that to another profile, and switch on the fly when you want to fire up music.
    The A51 and Outlaw 7000x are excellent amps. I wasn't able to afford new, but spent under $2k for both amps, before all the inflation hit. I don't like mixing and matching amps, so I bought another pre-owned A51, and put the Outlaw in another setup. I personally went with the Monlith pre-pro to access BEQ. I can't recommend that enough. But you'll need to add a MiniDSP unit to fully optimize your setup. Such a waste to see all that bass filtered away on these modern mixes.

    • @ThaVillaMan
      @ThaVillaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the tip ok DLBC, that’s a great idea with the curtain. You make a great point about why I could be hearing the improvement. Audyssey is notorious for flubbing measurements sometimes. You made a great choice on your processor too. That was on my shortlist too- I hear nothing but good thing about it. I’ll likely replace the outlaw with an A52+ (or 2) when I get a bigger room, but it works great for now

    I've changed my onkyo avr to marantz av7706 which is in sound quality wayy better than onkyo avr but the technical part of that processor not that good and missing many things that my old avr have
    Audio company's should focus in the technical department of their high end line of products because it's takes your good experience away

    A little tip: You should calibrate your system a 2nd time with Dirac Live and use "focused" with less calibration points if your alone most of the time. If you choose "wide" with those 19 points and you sit close to the surround channels, Dirac turns the volume of the surrounds way to low, cause the person that sits right or left of the main listening position should not get "blown away". I got a XMC-2 and tried both versions. A diffrence like day and night... When someone is with me, I sit next to the right surround speaker and that's no big deal. Try it!
    Great videos man, I love your channel❤

  • @TylerStout
    @TylerStout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do wonder if the differences are from moving from 5 to 7 main channels, dirac vs audyssey, and parasound vs outlaw vs denon amps. Like you changed a lot of things so it's really hard to say whether or not what you're hearing is due to one vs the other. Another question is how is it with all those speakers really close to your seats?

    • @patrickmiller4987
      @patrickmiller4987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly my thoughts. A slower upgrade path with measurements etc. would have been more interesting to me. Those surrounds seemed close for sure, tweet in ear, but if Dirac did its thing maybe, I prefer in walls.

      @ThaVillaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does. The crossover setting can be adjusted which can effectively make the speaker act as large, if the crossover is low enough. But that has to be done from a laptop and the settings transferred to the processor

  • @ViciousXUSMC
    @ViciousXUSMC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the speakers "vanishing" is a lot of the power of DIRAC as I only have a 5.4.4 but DIRAC does such a good job blending all the speakers that I cant hear any individual speaker when sound is panning around. Also MSO was the best thing I ever did for my subs, the subs that were covering some nulls would be a bit localized in those frequencies, but now they are all blended so well I can never hear any individual sub, and every seating spot has the same bass response.
    I love and wanted the Arendales but due to cost and size ended up with the THX-365T and those ended up working so well. Once you get the subs integrated well, its the most movie theater sounding setup I have heard yet.

      Absorption and diffusion panels on the first and second reflection points makes a big audible difference.

    That system is extremely overkill for a room that size. An all in one home theatre in a box would have been more than enough, e.g. lg ht 303. £150, at most. And you can feel the rumble with that subwoofer.

    I talked to Arendal today. The told me that the two rear surrounds need to be mounted opposite of what they say. Put the left in the right side, etc. It has to do with the phasing of the 4" speakers. Also, if you are running ATMOS overhead speakers, you should disable the 4" speakers all together and just run the frint facing woofer/tweeter only. If you haven't, give it a whirl.

    Hi with reference to listening to music, I’m the same and turn of Dirac, as yes what you say it just kills all the life and dynamics, especially as the calibration is done for multi channel and not two channel ,the Arcam Av40 has the availability to have 3 Dirac calibrations so you can do one for multi, and one for two channel, I’m using the Arcam Av860 but seems more easier to use than your processor, I believe we have become to reliant on such calibration tools, and are not always the best, and the sound has become to controlled,in some cases your video was very informative, easy to watch 👍

    Curious why the center is so low. Why not set it higher to get tweeter closer to ear level, can get a wedge to angle up also. Seems silly not to get the center optimized when investing so much time and money in this hobby. It carries the brunt of work unless you go phantom center. Many are incorporating the center while using surround codecs these days with music with great results, wondering if youve tried Auro3D with music.

      @ThaVillaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m already using 13 channels in a room this size, so I’ll definitely need more when I get a bigger space- plus the fact I wanted a Dirac capable device made the X7 a no-brainer.
      The amps I have are literally more than enough man lol (11/12 ch used). I’ll add to it when/if I need to.

    HI - I see you have experience / videos with some of the higher quality offerings with SVS / Monolith, how do you compare the Marty Cube subs to these. Do you think it would be worth the effort of building two of these and they would blow, say the PB4000 out of the water? Thanks

    • @ThaVillaMan
      @ThaVillaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s a matter of how you build the MartyCube. If you use a good PA woofer, you can get a lot more output and chest slam than you can with the PB4000.
      The SVS may go slightly lower though at around 16hz with the extended port tuning (middle port closed). That said pairing the Marty with a miniDSP will allow you to EQ is to match your room response. It’s all a matter of personal preference

    Thank you for the video it was a good watch. Just a small correction on the discussion around the Dirac Live license. The HTP-1 does include the license with the limitation of it supporting just a single sub. I did purchase the multi sub license for an additional $500, but again the main license many will use is included. Did you mean to say the Maestro comes out of the box with the multi sub license perhaps? New sub from me though and I will catch up on your past videos, much appreciated.

    Why did you place your surrounds so low? This is not the usual place for surrounds as far as I know. I have 4 SVS Elevations placed, as per SVS, as close to the ceiling as possible. But you certainly have an outrageous system. Congrats.

    • @JonMoralesLA
      @JonMoralesLA ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but aren’t those SVS elevations angled? So yeah they are designed for going higher up and aiming down at main listening position. Otherwise I don’t see an issue with ear level speaker heights.

  • @XoX1971
    @XoX1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice system but overkill. Too many speakers too close together equals sound waves bouncing all over the place in a room that size. I would go with a 5.2.2 for a room like that.

    • @JonMoralesLA
      @JonMoralesLA ปีที่แล้ว

      It is overkill, particularly with the surrounds, but with Dirac Live I’m sure it’s all dialed in and sounds fantastic.
