Awesome! It’s fun and challenging. If you need any support, I’m at Wannsee 😊

Congrats for your new chanel, very interesting. I am actually on the same, project of restoration a Formosa 47 which was sink and all electric and electonics must be changed (nothing runs) and of course I will renove all with Raspberry Pi from tip to top, but my knowledge of computers and sisems are limited, and DIY is hard, but of course will be a plasure to share our common investigations and knowings about those matters. Thanks again to share your knowledge.🤙👏👏👏

Waow, you‘ve a tough project in front of you. Wish you all the best for your refit. In the near future I’ll try to add some mir detailed videos about setting everything up. Probably you could adapt some of that and avoid spending too much bugs for all that fancy equipment 😁 🤙🏻

Hey i know this is crazy but what is required to install the nmea network to say a yahama engine that supports nmea 2000

If you already have a NMEA network it's quite straight forward. You need to connect the MacArthur Hat to your NMEA network and then it should receive already all data-packages, which are send through that network. Then it's only about configuration in e.g. SignalK server, which is running on the raspberry pi.
If you don't have a NMEA network yet, then you need one in the first place. You need to connect your engine to the network. When you've done that it's the same then described before.
In the near future, I will fit a SeatalkNG (similiar to NMEA2000 only difference are the connectors) network into my boat and connect it to my DIY plotter. I will show it in a video as well.

The feature to shut down the Pi when the 12v supply is cut, is that via the MacArthur Hat or some other add on?

The shutdown-feature comes with the MacArthur Hat. To enable the feature you need in addition to the hat a so-called power-module. From the shops-page:
"Optional 12V to 5V DC/DC converter for the MacArthur HAT to power the Raspberry Pi and its peripherals (including touch screens up to 10 inches). When you turn off the main switch of your ship, OpenPlotter will shut down safely. OpenPlotter will start cleanly when the main switch is turned on again."

@@8bitsailing thank you. I had not seen that module.
Lovely looking boat you've got. I've got a 1983 Leisure 23SL that I am restoring, and all the instruments are old/broken and need replacing.

Thank you so much. Actually, my boat is a Comfortina 32 from 86 with outdated electronics as well. In the near future I’ll upgrade to a nmea2000 bus and add some accessories to it.
Boat refits are fun, besides sailing them 😁

What model pi are you using? I have been told that there are problems with pi5 and Open Plotter.

      Hi @scottphillips8767 I'm using a RPI4 with 8GB RAM. Unfortunately I didn't had the opportunity to test it with a pi5
