The mom should be allowed to have a kid in prison because if they take it away the mom could have suicidal thoughts or thoughts of killing someone. Which would increase her sentence. And after prison it would be way to difficult to get the child back from the family that adopted the child. And sometimes the mom is out of luck and will never get her child back.

They should extend this program to make a child's experience less frightening when visiting his/her incarcerated mother. I first met my mother here when I was 8 yrs. old and it was scary. I'm 61 now and all I remember is she was pretty and I wanted to hug her and be held by her but that wasn't possible. As a little one I didn't understand why which made it scary and the close proximity of the non smiling corrections officers made it scary too.

Yvonne 1820 In the south you're allowed to have firearms, to protect your home up north you're not, or having kids would be all the more reason to have one for protection, there is no mention that it was used in a crime or in the commission of one, so for those reasons I'm showing leniency, could she have committed one? Possibly but there's no mention of it and the fact you can't have a fire arm up north is bad enough considering crime is just as bad there too

What I have observed from the personal experiences of some of the individuals closest to me:
    - If boys don't have their incarcerated mother in their life, they will always be bitter that they never got to see her until they were an adult.
    - If the parent does not take their children to see their mom in prison, those kids will be ecstatic and thrilled to talk to her the day they turn 18, and will always talk to her because she will be more of a friend to them, she wasn't there to discipline them or argue with them or anything during their formative years.
    - Another reason why boys should be able to see their mother in prison is so that they develop empathy for women, also they will be less likely to commit sexual assaults as an adult.
Children should be able to see their mothers in prison!!! Security guards need to be more compassionate and not use bad language around children when they visit. The father of the children needs to not isolate the children from their mom, it only makes the kids closer to the mother once they grow up!

Bedford Hills made History by being the First Prison in The US to have a Nursery. Jean Harris who was incarcerated from 1981-1993 helped create and organize it and she taught Parenting Classes. Another person who helped alot was Sister Elaine Roulet a Late In Life Nun who was a Psychiatrist who would do whatever she could to help Females get on their feet. From making sure the children could come visit, finding wardrobes for them, and Cribs, Toys and the like. In the Summer they have a Four Day Summer Program where The Inmates have their Children stay with them in the Daytime and they stay with "Host Families".
