Brahms' sense of hemiola is so intoxicating. Very nice reading of this piece.

Another wonderfully illuminating commentary on this work by Brahms, followed by an exquisite performance: bravo, Cole. The music somehow feels enigmatic, to me, with its idiosyncratic texture. The unsettling mood of the opening - I sense impatience - contrasts starkly with the beautiful serenity of the middle section before returning to the opening idea but now suggesting passion! I wish I know what Clara made of this Intermezzo - what she felt when she played it!

In the final climax of the piece it seems to me like an uplifting resolution to fight after a deep wound epic personal tragedy.🤛

Wow. This one is almost unknown to me, still not quite sure what to think. During the middle section I kept asking myself "what does that remind me of?" Then i realized it was Liszt's Harmonies du soir.

Yes! It is reminiscent of the 2nd theme isn’t it?

The melody in the first half of the middle section has similarities to the second theme of the Liszt, but I was thinking more that the harmonies in the second half of the middle section have similarities to the some of the chords in the Liszt.
