Close order drill was unchanged when I did it with M1903A1, M1, M14, and M16 in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

These are Marines. Note the eagle, globe and anchor on their garrison caps.

By the looks of the uniforms, it appears to have been made in the 1950's

I spent 20 years in the Army. I handled M1's, M14's and M16's. All of them have similar Manual of Arms. But on Inspection Arms, they differ a little due to the operating system. However, in every Inspection Arms the chamber/magazine is inspected to ensure it's not loaded. You never ever want to hand a loaded weapon to the inspecting officer. And in every Inspection Arms, when the inspecting officer returns the weapon, you automatically return the weapon to battery, and pull the trigger, finally returning the rifle to Order Arms. In this video they show the Marine placing the weapon on safe. That WAS NOT done in the Army.

That seems right, I don’t recall putting the M1 or M14 on safe; I do remember pulling the trigger on the M1903A1; I think we also pulled the trigger on the M1 at VMI, but we did not have firing pins in except when going to the range.

M16 drill seems a lot simpler than this. A lot of easy reference points on the M16 vs the M1 and inspection arms doesn't involve doing that weird quick peek at the receiver. But I mean I haven't done rifle drill since boot camp so what does it matter

Are there any massive differences between marine and regular Amy drill at the time?

      +Liam Collins,
Basics are the basics. All Preparatory and Command of execution are virtually the same between Army and Marine drill. There are slight differences between units and branches of the military but an Army Soldier should be able to follow commands given by a Marine with little difficulty and vice versa. Rifle drill has not change dramatically between now and WWI except for the type of weapon being used, Springfield 1903, M1 Garand, M14 and M16. I hope this helps answers your question.

Marines drill longer. The USMC has the longest basic training of all the branches and close order drill is a Marine recruit's life for 12 long weeks.

Is this all you basically need to know?

silvio Castell if you learn this basic manual of arms with the M1adjusting to M14s or M16s should be easy. All most all commands are basically the same.
