Great video! I've never customized a bass or guitar before, but this makes it seem so much simpler than I thought.

Here's a little tip; If your push-on control knobs also have a screw, try to line it up with one end of the slot in the split shaft. If it doesn't line up, try turning the knob 180 degrees to see if it lines up with the other side of the slot.
Once you've done that, tighten the screw just a little and it will spread the slot so the shaft of the pot grips the control knob, but without damaging the splines on the shaft.
You can check that the screw is lined up with the slot when the knob is on the shaft by taking it out and putting a pin or straightened paper clip down the screw hole.

I just built a new White P-Bass, and orderd the expensive (for real) Tortoise shell pickguard, looks wonderful with
a white body. I had to sand down the inside of the pickup cutouts, i had Duncan 1/4 lb i think its like a 1/16th of an
    inch wider

Big question can you use copper tape on the back of the pick guard for shielding ? also I have a TS pick guard bought for a MX bass I want to place it on an American Pro 2. What size are the pot shaft size ?? 3/16 ?? I figure I'll have to drill them out .

Copper tape works fine on the back of a pickguard

Hi Steve, thanks so much for this video. I purchased the same brand pickguard for my Fender MIM p bass and ran into the same problem of the pickup holes not being large enough. I wonder if you'd be so kind as to tell me what type of files you used exactly. I've tried 4 pick guards now and none (including one from Fender themselves) and none have fit. Time to file! Thank you much. Subscribed to your great channel.

amazing that the companies that make these aftermarket picguards can't actully make them to fit. I mean in 2023 how hard is it to copy an origional fender one that actually fits... When it can just be scanned then cut by a CnC conputer controled machien.
