    This is exactly how I do my edges. I learned it from a German pattern for a scarf I made last year and it makes such a pretty edge.

      Thank you, Angelica! It is good to know that this way to make selvedges is also popular in Germany. Happy knitting, my friend :-)

    Wow, so tidy! I can see using this for edges I mean to stay exposed rather than for edges I mean to seam. Looking forward to your sock knitting course!

      Thank you, Andrea :-) If you decide to add these selvedges to the edges that will be seamed later on, use the seaming technique explained in this tutorial - www.10rowsaday.com/seam-slip-stitch-edges - for the best results. Happy knitting!

    Hello, really helpful videos! Thank you! Do you have tutorials about knitting pockets and which technique looks best? Many thanks

      @10rowsaday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lisa, When I add pockets to my projects, I use the method explained in this tutorial - www.10rowsaday.com/simple-socks3 It works great for anything "afterthought" - heels, pockets, and any other design elements. Happy knitting :-)

    I absolutely love how you did this selvedge it's a LOT better than most i've seen on youtube, i'm thinking of doing a half pi shawl and i was wondering if it's possible to do the silesian selvedge edge on a garter tab before i start the pattern properly or would i be best to just do the garter tab the regular way first?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paula, Because the garter tab is so small, I wouldn't bother adding selvedges to it. But if you do want to make the Silesian selvedges uninterrupted on the edge of the shawl, add the selvedge only to the side of the tab that will stay open after you pick up stitches for the shawl. Good luck :-)

    What cast on and bind off do you use to match this edging technique?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chain cast on and suspended or regular bind off will form similar chain of stitches at the horizontal edges of your project. Happy knitting!

    If the first stitch is a purl, would I still purl it through the back loop or is there another way of working a purl stitch?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lisa. The selvedge stitches are always treated the same - knit the first stitch through the back loop and slip the last stitch with the yarn at the front of the work. You start the main pattern of your project after the first selvedge stitch. So if your pattern starts with "purl 1", you would knit the first stitch through the back loop (that's our selvedge), then purl 1 and continue to work in the pattern that you follow until you get to the last stitch of the row. The last stitch of every row is the second selvedge and we always slip it with the yarn at the front of the work. To make sure the selvedges do not disrupt your pattern, add two stitches to the number of stitches you cast on. Happy knitting :-)

    I have tried all the.selvedges.nothing helped.first stich is very loose and loppy.please help

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sanita. The stitch becomes loose because the yarn is not tight enough when you work that stitch. Try to pull the yarn a bit to tighten the stitch. This should help. Happy knitting :-)

    Does this selvedge edge prevent the stockinette fabric from curling/rolling at the edges thereby making it possible to knit a stockinette scarf?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Victoria, this edging is too slim to keep the fabric from curling. One of the ways to make a non-curling stockinette scarf is to knit it twice as wide as the width of the finished scarf and then seam the side edges of the fabric to form a tube. Happy knitting :-)
