TL:DR: The best analogy I can give is... freestyle/battle rapper vs. mainstream rapper. It may seem like all rappers are the same, but those that KNOW... they know that they are different, and that only a few can successfully crossover to the other side. Not all freestyle rappers can become successful mainstream rappers, and not all mainstream rappers can freestyle/battle rap. But, it doesn't mean that they aren't great at what they do in their own category.

This comment is long, but I'm going to try and explain why it's difficult for "new" listeners of Korean music to understand that their is a huge difference between "idol", "vocalist", and "artist", and their vocal capabilities/limits. (If you want to get put on to songs to react to that even most YT reactors don't know about, I can hook you up... just let me know. I will give you a suggestion because you like power vocals, and it is a duet with one of the most famous Kpop male idols ever (Taeyang from Big Bang) and a "fan" off-the-streets that won a chance to sing a duet with him. Taeyeon began as a middle-school girl with basic raw vocal talent but received vocal training from SM Academy and a vocal coach The One who also trains other Kpop singers. Kpop idol training takes YEARS and involves singing, dancing, performing, visual appearance, and learning other languages. The style of singing is Kpop, not R&B/Soul... so freedom of expression/emotions in Kpop singing isn't really common. ALL Kpop idols are "good" singers, but they are not required to be "great", and only a handful of Kpop idols are actually "great" singers, and Taeyeon is widely considered to be one of the great Kpop singers. Although, she is oftentimes still constrained by the Kpop roots of her trained style of singing within her own music.
These Killing Voice performances are usually shot starting very early in the morning and can take quite some time to finish. They are usually scheduled when performers are making a "comeback" with a new song as a way to promote their new song. During a performer's "promotion" period for a new song, the performer's schedules are completely jam-packed. Often times, performers are running on little-to-no-sleep for a couple weeks during this promotion period. So, their vocal and energy "condition" isn't the greatest. Therefore, in order to perform successfully in a one-take environment, they probably design a playlist that is manageable for them. An overworked and tired solo artist during a promotional comeback period singing powerfully nonstop for 25 minutes straight is probably not possible.
Big Mama are not Kpop idols. They are VOCALISTS. They debuted BLIND in 2003. Their label had so much concern about their appearance that they only released their music first, without revealing their appearance. Since they are not "idols", Big Mama is not required to dance/perform; they just stand in from of a mic and sing. This means that they ONLY have to focus on perfecting their emotional and powerful singing. Although they are far more talented vocalists than any Kpop idol, they are nowhere near as popular as any Kpop idol. Big Mama disbanded in 2012 and only recently got back together to make a comeback because they regained some attention after appearing/singing on a famous Korean television variety show.
But, this does not mean that Big Mama ever retired from singing. Each member, individually, is a Professor in Music at different universities in Korea. This shows how knowledgeable and great they are in singing that they are now teaching future generations the craft at universities. This also explains their ability to sing emotionally and powerfully for longer durations than Kpop idols because they are true vocal masters. Also, there are four members to divide the time and physical demands of singing so powerfully for so long.
Also, the reason you like Mamamoo is because they are literally the perfect balance between Big Mama and Kpop idols. Mamaoo is a one-of-a-kind Kpop group that started off like Big Mama. The members of Mamamoo were all criticized about their appearance during their auditions and were often told they would never make it. They literally succeeded because of their vocal talent and abilities, and eventually they EARNED their popularity. But, they are the ONLY group that possess similar Big Mama vocals, but can dance and perform as Kpop idols. They are objectively the most talented and complete female Kpop group, hands down. It's not even debatable.

Example of "vocalist": Big Mama, Sohyang, Lena Park, Gummy, HYNN, Kim Bum Soo (male), Hwang Yicheol (male), etc.

@@ThinkB4YouType I personally think Mamamoo can't even come close to Big Mama in terms of vocal abilities. I guess in today's standards, they might be good but some of their vocals in certain songs sound shallow/thin.
