Exploit: Performing something that may or may not be intended by the developer(s) for some benefit (in terms of gameplay), within the game's boundaries. Glitch: Performing something that was NOT intended by the developer(s) that causes the game to incorrectly function.
9:07 There were a lot of points this game where i jumped or positioned towards empty spots with a single banana and i always ended up dying. What you just explained is exactly my feelings towards this game's secrets because i was never able to find them because apperantly i never readjusted myself properly to be on the offscreen barrel or something. I genuinely thought moments like these is just the game trolling you and me failing is the game teaching me that this can happen and you should not always trust your instincts. I was still left out with a positive experience after finishing the game but seeing this clip genuinely blew my mind and you saying "imagine if the game deceives you" was like being spat on my face. Love your channel btw, i rewatch your videos very frequently Note: I HAVE found secrets in this game, i just completed this game with around 55% and i liked the secrets i was able to find but moments like the offscreen barrels was stuff i was never able to find when i tried to intentionally. The only time i found a cool secret was this one at 13:15. It was not an instant win after that, i got a game over on that level a couple of times afterwards but that's what makes it so cool, the secret feels like a major shortcut yet doesn't beat the level for you. Btw am i the only one who thought the underwater levels were way easier than the ground ones? The only time i struggled with an underwater level was the last one because of the tires Also atmosphere>story in any media imo
every time he said life in the Xavier voice I echoed because thats something that happens every time Xavier says life in Xavier Renegade Angel, that and many other words are echoed in the best goofiest effects, some echoes are reversed just to get your goat.
28:03 pretty sure a glitch is a problem in the game due to an over sight in the games coding, but an exploit is taking advantage of intentional coding in the games, meaning that while it technically is unintentional, it isn’t a problem with the coding itself, but rather taking advantage of something intentional to get a result the creators weren’t expecting. (I think that’s what it is anyways)
I think the reason these early platformer games (SM64, DKC, things like that) is that there was no super deep lore to it. Like, sure, "Meria go savada pricezz!" and "OOH OOH AHH AHH ME BANANA!", but thats about it. Because of this, there was no struggle to portray super deep meaning within the graphics in terms of some complex story idea, so the graphics are instead just allowed to be good. There is no compromise on creativity for the sake of a storyline. Now, in the current day, this is not a good thing to go by: Hollow Knight, a great metroidvania (platforming/adventure game) has super deep and interesting lore, and the visuals lend itself to that. But that is because the current day offers art programs able to handle the undertaking of making both high-quality and meaningful peices much easier than in the past. Granted, it is still difficult, much respect to whomever can create art in any capacity, but what im saying is that its more complex nowadays. Back then, it was simple artstyles, and these games lended themselves to that. This left probably much more time in the creative department to think of new or interesting platforming tools that are now staples (The barrels, the minecart levels, stuff like that.)
IIRC, the GBA remake would save your game automatically (or at least give you the option whenever), and Candy had a DDR-style minigame that would give you extra lives.
i was playing celeste while watching this video, and as you talked about how every game rips off the dkc water level i realized that the "anxiety" piece in this game literally is just the water level but slower wtf
