When I was a kid I had a cat that would go hunting with me in the woods by our house every weekend and I would shoot birds for the cat and squirrels for me to BBQ on the porch , good times. That was 30 years ago.

My Grandmother was an expert squirrel cook. Her rules 1. Don’t cook an old tough red squirrel- Gray squirrels only. 2. Pressure cook a bit before rolling in flour, meal coating will tenderize. Yours looked delicious.

Great video. I've eaten hundreds of squirrels and It's fairly easy to get them nice and tender. The crock pot is the easiest way. Soaking them in salt water for at least 30 minutes right after cleaning is a must. It gets the game flavor out of the meat. I recommend sweet and sour squirrel. My kids can't tell the difference in it and chicken. It pretty much shreds like pulled pork. Another quick and easy way to get tender squirrel is to season it however you like, but put a little corn starch in with it. Then bake them at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or so and it's almost like they're fried. Keep up the good work and definitely keep up the airgunning. If you have any airgun questions, feel free to ask. I only use airguns on my channel.

Nice fox squirrel, nice shot. I just throw them in the slow cooker with either a can of cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery soup. A few hours later, falling off the bone and tastey. Super easy. I put the squirrels in a bucket of warm water before skinning, keeps the fur from flying and sticking to meat.

Dunk squirrel in bucket, keeps hair down. Have extra clean bucket of water to splash hands, keeps hands hair free. Tail method is definitely the best. When you cut through the bone widen the cut back of the legs and jockey back and forth when you pull. To the left and right leg. Just a feel. Squirrels are good eats!

For the best buttermilk, buy the buttermilk enzymes from Amazon. Adding vinegar or lemon juice, fresh squeezed even, is not or does not produce buttermilk. People have been saying this and it's wrong. Do yourself a huge favor and research it. Most buttermilk sold in cartons, isn't really the best to use. Lastly, you shouldn't have to buy buttermilk often. Always save about 8 ounces of buttermilk, add that to up to a gallon of whole milk, shake it up well, then just let it sit on your kitchen island or table, at room temperature. The good buttermilk bacteria will convert that whole milk into a rich, thick buttermilk. make sure to check it every once and awhile. Once it thickens up, give it one last shake, take the cap off to smell your wonderful creation. Put and keep in your fridge. I've had buttermilk made from the initial carton I purchased for 10 years before, and it's incredible, let me tell you. I make our kids the moistest, fluffiest, delicious, buttermilk pancakes. So I've been told, I agreed, because I love them, only slathered in whipped butter, and he best maple syrup, from a forest in Connecticut. God bless you and your family.

For the tail method you did it a little wrong. When you cut through the tail you want to make small slits on the side of it also to gently loosen the skin. Then you step on the tail making sure you're at the base of the bone and then pull up. Doing it this way you jerk his britches off without getting any hair on the meat whatsoever.
If you want some good buttermilk don't buy it from the store. Get some whole milk out of your refrigerator and pour out one or two cups depending on how much meat you need to cover. For every cup of whole milk add one tablespoon of white vinegar and stir it thoroughly. Allow it to sit for about 15 or 20 minutes and boom you have buttermilk.

We usually cook squirrel for several hours in the crockpot, then bone it and add noodles. Squirrel and noodles and mashed potatoes is delicious. And cooking it low and slow like that makes it fall off the bone tender. In fact that method works for any tough type or cut of meat. Even an old rooster or laying hen that's getting kinda long in the tooth.

I still remember the first time I had squirrel. My dad put it in a stew and told me it was venison( he knew I wouldn't eat the cute fluffy "tree bunny"), after I had finished the bowl was when he told me, I was so mad lol... I was also 10 so I got over it and had another bowl, because that stuff is goooood. Also, this was a very good video, I always enjoy when a new one comes out even as a newer subscriber
