The Game Store Owner Who Buys More Than He Sells (By PeteDorr)

- This is the story of Mike Burd, a passionate game collector and owner of Video Game Trading Post in Massapequa, New York. However, Mike isn't your typical businessman, he buys way more than he sells and has no problem admitting it. The entirety of this video was filmed, edited and produced by myself.

I'm actually from this area and I have to say that this store is awesome!!! Mike and the rest of the employees are incredibly helpful and super friendly. Plus the prices are more than fair and they let you try out a game if you are unsure if you'll like or if you don't know if it will work. They do a lot of repairs and mods too which is cool such as making a japanese only n64 game work on my american n64. Highly recommend this store. Great vid and it was really interesting to learn more about the store!

I think that's a problem with a lot of game store owners is they see it as a way for them to boost their own collection rather than use it to make money.
I can relate to this a lot with myself having bipolar disorder. As much as I hate to admit my initial motivation for collecting was because of it and honestly I feel the potential to become a border. Now I have it mostly under control by giving my self standers and requirements for buying games and it helps me not slip into a where I only collect to buy stuff. It does help me out a bunch though. When I'm manic I feel like a kid again with all the games I have to play and to direct my extra energy into something enjoyable and less damaging. When I'm depressed sometimes I just look at everything I own until I find that one key item that helps to put a smile on my face because of the memories I have with it. Like a mental disorder my collecting has become a major part of my life but if there's anything iv learner from my experience with it all its that you have to fight to keep control of yourself otherwise you end up as nothing more than a game without a score or achievements.
That was really well done. Like a documentary. You should do more vids like this. Really enjoyed it!!

Pete, do you make these videos entirely on your own, such as recording the footage and editing it? I don't really know about your life/experience background but it seems like you have some sort of news reporter sort of background.
Everything is done entirely on my own. I received my associates in visual art and will soon be finishing my bachelor's with a degree in journalism.

Very inspiring story and well done, I could see a longer version of this appearing on 60 Minutes or something.
His problem doesn't really sound like bipolarism, just something similar. Stuff like that is really hard to nail down what it is, so I understand that his doctors might have told him that he is bipolar. I had a very similar situation, and it turned out that the meds they gave me caused most of my problems. Once I got off the meds, I found that I was actually fine. That's the school system for you. I didn't pay attention in class, so they put me on that endless hell of trying to 'cure' me.
Anyways, this got a little off topic. He might not actually be bipolar, was my point. It might be something else.
Anyways. It was a good film, and your direction on their employees made it feel very professional quality, I was impressed.
Well we don't know the whole story just from a 3 minute snapshot of this guys life, but I would agree 'bipolar disorder' is way over diagnosed. It's rare to have unipolar mania- but does happen.
It's probably more likely he has OCD or an impulse control disorder.

Interesting Video I Have Bi Polar As well and dealing with that and living sometimes can be difficult .

His description of his manic states mirrors the ones my wife has (when not medicated), except she also suffers from the extreme depression as well. It was a hell of a ride until she was diagnosed. If he isn't getting help, he should be.. if not for himself, then for the people that care about him. Bipolar disorder doesn't just affect the individual. A great video, nonetheless! That place looks like heaven.
There's a lot more he told me that I could not fit in the video, but he takes the proper measures to make sure it's under control as much as possible.

This definetly deserves a like. I know its bad to be wasting so much money on those games but he has a great strategy and thats a hobbie i would want to do when im older. Also i live 20 min away from where it is and whats they open up again i may go.
