god it seems just like yesterday when the ps2 was the next gen
now ps5 is next gen and ps4 is last gen
Getting my PS2 is something I will never forget. I didn't get it on launch, and when I did get it, it was a used console, but I remember the day like it was yesterday. I went to a used game shop with my parents to spend my allowance on some PS1 games, and after looking around a bit, they discouraged me from buying those and I was totally confused, they told me there in the store that they had a PS2 for me in the trunk that was supposed to be for Christmas (this was close to the holiday) and they hated to see me spend my allowance on older games when I could buy a game for the PS2. Needless to say that was an awesome day.
PS2 is my All-time Favorite console. Got it in 2001 and I play it to this day. The PS2's library diversity is just unmatched. Also, the 6th generation was the last of the golden gaming era IMO. I hate all these game installations, patches BS that you have to do these days. Not to mention no manuals, reading manuals were 25% of the joy after getting a new game for me.
I really cant believe the Ps2 Is getting so old! :o

WHAT? Where the hell is SSX? That was probably the best looking launch title for the PS2. And it still kicks ass today!
Tekken tag is the best looking ssx is the best looking racing game of the launch titles I would say
I have SSX released in 2000 too and it's fantastic and SSX tricky is excellent too.
I got my PS2 in 2001 and GTA3 was my first PS2 game :)

Got mine on Christmas day, got Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto 3, and Gran Turismo 3.
I loved Dark Legacy and I'm so happy you saved the best for last, me and my friends always had a blast with that game and spent countless hours on it!
I got my PS2 in 2003 when I was 7. Still have mine and it's still doing good. I still play it till this day.

I have some very fond memories with my PS2. Unfortunately my original fat one broke. I kept it for years displayed on my shelf because I didn't have the heart to get rid of it, but I've been broke lately so I sold it through Craigslist.
I still remember my mom buying it for me in 2001. I bought Surfing H3O with my own money. Not too long after, I bought Crazy Taxi at a Circuit City and then Fur Fighters at Blockbuster. Now I have well over 300+ PS2 games and it's by far my favorite system
I had one of those old ones a while ago but my sister tripped on the controller wire and it fell off of the shelf it was on and broke. I started crying because it was the best and probably the only system I had but my mom said she would get me the new slim one that came out and I was happy. She is nice. :)

I watch many different gaming channels, but I always find myself coming back to yours, Pete. I think it has to do with the relatable videos you have. Hearing detailed commentary about great consoles such as the PS2 and the N64, as well as their games, can really be nostalgic. A good nostalgia, of course.
When ps2 came i bought it after xmas and got tekken tag tournament (great fighting game), ssx (great sports game), and that was it. As the years passed, i used my ps2 as both a dvd player (worked better than the oritron budget dvd player i got for xmas that year), cd, and ps2 and ps1 machine. The original model's laser couldn't read dual layer discs anymore so i got the thin model while dad tried to repair it; i got an xbox in 2003 but never played it online because i had to pay for xbox live. Dad still uses the ps2 a lot and it works great, although when it reads dvds the movie skips a lot. Also one of the controllers broke (dual shock 2). Out of all the ps machines that sony churned out, this one remains the best selling Sony console and video game console of all time,even though in January Sony ended production worldwide. Fifa 14 was the last PS2 game.

Final Fantasy X. I remember looking at it through a magazine and I really wanted the game. At the time I had a Gamecube (I'm a huge Nintendo fan) but I was also super big on Final Fantasy.
My friend brought his Playstation 2 over with FFX and he let me play the first 10 minutes of the game. It blew my mind and I just had to have it.
A few weeks later my dad told me that he won a Playstation 2 from a McDonald's contest. I'm never sure if that's true but, hey, I got a Playstation 2 with FFX :D
I remember playing FantaVision when i was like 6 or 7 and i enjoyed it
i remember the sony website had a count down of the hours left til the PS2 launch. I would sit at the computer every day after school and watch it even though there was like a month left on the counter. lol
PS2 was practically my first console, I got it for christmas in 2004 and was hooked ever since. My PS2 games take up over 3/4ths of my collection.

The PS2 was, is, and probably forever will be my personal favorite console of all time. What a great video, Pete! I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your thoughts on some of the earlier PS2 games and your memories of the system. Some of my favorite games for the system:

Gauntlet is one of my favorites ever. Some of my favorite multiplayer memories come from that game.
I remember playing Dragon Ball Z Budakai, Oni, and Armored Core 3 when i first got my PS2.
My parents bought my Ps2 a couple weeks after it came out and i was only a few months old

Tekken Tag Tournament was great. Also by the way i'm 13 and I used to play the PS2 as a kid.
Demon Rantz At that time, the only way I got to play tekken tag, was to go to a skating rink and play, .50 at a time...oh God i miss it!

I remember being a young teenager and watching the launch event in Japan on TV. I was so impressed.. Sadly it took me a few years after that before I got my PS2, but I still own it to this day.
I got my first PS2 system on 2017. It was a gifts from a friend, and he gave it yo me because somebody broke my XB360 and he had a PS2 slim just laying around with no real use, so he have it tl me and one of the first games I played on it was NFS:MW, Kingdom Hearts, MGS 2 and 3, and KH and MGS have become into some of my favorite franchises ever.

Old memories! Still remember Timesplitters, it was so awesome and still is.

PS2 IMO has hands down the best launch games.
I LOVED Timesplitters, SSX, Smuggler's Run, Midnight Club, Tekken Tag Tournament, Dynasty Warriors 2 -- all great games!
Oh man, I'm 13 and I have had some fond memories of the PS2... Need for Speed Hot Pursuit I think it was, Jak and Dexter, and so much more. I never grew up as a rich kid, so we had this, and to tell you the truth, it's one of my favorite consoles other than the gamecube.

A good friend of mine bought a PS to have lunch, and I bought mine about seven months later. I still have it to this day. It has trouble reading disks when it heats up a little, but other than that it works like a charm. my two favorite games from lunch or SSX and Madden 2001. The most memorable thing about the latter where the blank stares that the players had, LOL. I mean, I don't even think that they blinked!
Got the same PS2 with the online, and everything. It's still working here too. Love it.

Midnight Club and Smugglers Run.
Got my PS2 in 2003, and loved it from that point on. My first games were Turok: Evolution, Ace Combat 4, SOCOM 1, and Gran Turismo 3, but the actual reason why I bought it was to play Silent Hill 3 in time for its release, and oh boy was it worth it.
Well pete does it again. I have been in a collecting slump and haven't picked up anything for the collection nor gone game hunting in 3 weeks but now Imma have to beef up my PS2 collection. Being that it is one of my favorite consoles
I remember when my friend first got his ps2 with dynasty warriors 2 with it. I thought it was so amazing, I went out and bought a ps2. I still have both game and ps2 to this day!
I went back to playing my PS2 for a while before the PS4 and the nostalgia is way too overwhelming!! My first game was Sly Cooper!!
My memories of PS2 launch games were Ridge Racer 5, SSX and Dynasty Warriors 2. I also rented a lot of games back then as well... such as Time Spitters, Eternal Ring and Shadow of Destiny.
The thing I remember most is my mom taking me and my brother to wait in line for the release at like 2am... I never made it stayed in bed but when I woke up I was supper happy.. wish I some up...

Pete hearing your opinion on timesplitters was awesome, the timesplitters series specifically future perfect are my favourite shooting games ever.
I can only begin to imagine how many total hours of gaming my PS2 has been through and I still play it regularly to this day.
I got Dynasty Warriors 3 and I've been Enjoying it. I also Love Metal Slug Anthology, Yuyu Hakusho: Dark Tournament, Shadow The Hedgehog, The Bouncer and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. Those are my Favorite PS2 Games!
I have a limited edition PS2 Blue Gloss console :) Less than fifty were sold

I played 90 percent of the games in this video. Dynasty warriors was my favorite game to play with friends. I miss the ps2 days but its time to have some new memories with the ps4!
My favorite PlayStation 2 games are Grand Theft Auto 3, Burnout, Midnight Club, The Sims, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, Gran Turismo 3: A-spec, and State of Emergency. Plus all the awesome DVDs I can watch on it.
Gaunlet Legends for the ps1 was one of my most played co-op games back in the day. Its cool that you got to play the ps2 version.
I'm almost 17, I got my PS2 in 2003. I will never forget that day!
I got my original PS2 for christmas back in 2001 with Tony Hawk Underground and Simpsons Road Rage. me and my brother played it nonstop and it held up until 2012 when it broke. It has been replaced by a PS2 slim afterwards
Ah definitely remember PS2 launch. I picked mine up at a misplaced toy store located in high end shopping plaza so not a lot of kids went there. Picked up Ridge Racer V and Dead or Alive 2.
SSX! The snowboard game to end all snowboard games that were so prevalent in the late 90's and the year 2000. I can't believe I was 17 when the PS2 came out.
my original ps2 still works as well got it for my 9th birthday in 2001. i use my slim just because the laser is wearing out
I still game on PS2 to this day. So many awesome RPGs on it.
Smuggler's Run was another game I loved to play back on the PS2 but I was only able to play it at my friend's house at the time because I couldn't afford it back then but I always had a great amount of fun from that game
I loved my PS2. I didn't get it on launch, but later that year. I miss the days of SOCOM! I played those online so much back then. It's too bad where the series has gone.
How I wish I could go back in time to enjoy the best console ever made at the time and I do consider it the best console of its time

Damn.. this video brought tears to my eyes. I used to play my PS2 every single day until my eyes were bloodshot and my parents would yell at me constantly to stop playing or I'd get bad eyesight. Then all the memories of playing with family and still remember playing those old ATV games and racing with my dad or some other family member. Damn..those were the days.. I miss when people made consoles like this..
Summoner! I remember me and my friend playing this together. Later I got the PC version too. Never finished it to the end, though. Major nostalgia.
Escape from Monkey Island, Hitman (forgot the exact name), GTA games, Tekken TT, Tekken 4, FF10 and many more.
I still remember getting my PS2 at Christmas time in 2000. My cousins and I spent more time that day with the SSX demo that came with it than with Tekken Tag Tournament.
Remember that racing game by square that came out for ps2? Ughh... never again square, never again. Great video dude, your room is so epic!
*****, glad to see that you acknowledged the King's Field series. Ever Grace is also made by From Software and shares the same charm. I would love to see you play Eternal Ring. If you don't own Shadow Tower on the PS1, check it out as it's part of the King's Field series.
LOVE GAUNTLET DARK LEGACY!!!! Multiplayer was so fun back in the day, unlocked everything with my buds
The only memory I actually had of the PS2 is that my nephew used to own one and we played it quit a bit together. I only recently picked up a PS2 of my own because at the time we could only afford one console. My wife and I got the GameCube because it was the cheapest and had some great games for it. It's funny because my nephew had the PS2, we had the GameCube, and my brother had the Xbox Classic. So even though we all could only afford one console we could play at each other's house and enjoy all of them at different times lol.

I can't remember the first PS2 games I played on my older brother's console, but I do remember playing a ton of PlayStation magazine demo discs. I really wish those still existed for modern consoles.
And of course for the Cathode Raytube Amusement Device and Tennis for Two. That was awesome when those came out!! I waited in line for hours to get them.

i remember pre ordering it, picking it up on launch day and having to wait to finish work, got home, set it up and it had a faulty disc drive gutted lol got a replacement and was a great system
I first got my playstation 2 on the christmas of 2003. I was never one for owning systems at launch but I do remember the first three games I bought for the ps2. Those three games were wild arms 3, xenosaga episode 1 and kingdom hearts.
so I've figured out that pete is about 26 and that 13 years ago he got all these games at around the same time. that means he was 13 and freaking had everything. i envy your childhood pete.

I remembered this thing. Honestly, I didn't even remember PS2 having a slim model til I researched it. I do however remembering seeing one probably in a store or at a friend's house when I was young. I don't remember what games I played on the system though. xD
PS2 was the fucking god at the time. I remember getting my PS2 many years ago for my birthday and my first 2 games were Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Twisted Metal Black which were amazing games. Then later, I got games like Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Transformers, Motocross Mania 3, Jak 2, I just have a lot of fond memories with the PS2, and I still play it to this day. And out of all the games I got, Kingdom Hearts II was my favorite game, and is my favorite game of all time.
PlayStation 2 is one my favorite systems to collect for, it has all my favorite genres and most games are cheap.
il never forget my ps2, had it on preorder for ages, went and picked it up on my lunch break from work, got home and set it up, and got a disc tray error lol was well pissed

I played Smugglers Run on the Gamecube and loved it, never played the PS2 version though.
I got the ps2 slim when it first released back in 2004 and now its gonna be 10 years old in may!!!

timesplitter is the best game i've ever played... no game tops it for me.
i play the ps2 to this very day almost every day...no other system has had so many amazing 2d fighing games come out on it(except for the neo geo)

#1 launch game I remember was Tekken Tag Tournament. Everyone I knew back then had it on Day 1.
Man i haven't picked up any console at launch, always at least a year later. There's a lot of games to choose after a while but it must be fun trying out the first games.
