As an F1 fan, in the absence of any sport I've found myself watching a marble-powered representation of a different formula and Mercedes are STILL winning.
I thought he sounded like "well this is a bit silly" @ first, but was totally drawn in after the 2nd lap. It was an awesome race and the commentary was great!

It's kinda interesting listening to Nicholls' commentary; he's way less experienced in calling marble racing than Greg Woods (and they have a very noticeable difference in fluidity) but it adds a certain sense of legitimacy to the whole affair. I'm excited to see where this goes in the future, as well as any other collaborations that you guys have planned.
I have a feeling nicholls will figure it out as he goes along. just a different style but once he commentates a few marble races I am sure he will be on par with his official races too. still love Greg Woods though!
He will figure it out! He just needs to buy into personifying the marbles. I know it probably sounds and feels ridiculous to him, but part of Greg Woods commentary was maintaining story lines and using references from outside of the race to help the marbles seem more real. Im sure as the season goes on, he will improve!

A warm welcome to Mr. Nicholls to the world of Marble racing. I have to admit at first I was a bit sceptical whether it would be the same without Greg Woods. And honestly? It wasnt. Nicholls clearly is a different style of commentator and between that and his seeming reluctance at first I wasnt certain whether he would be quite able to capture the spirit of marble racing the way Woods can. But as the qualifier went on and into the race it was great to see Nicholls getting more and more comfortable and into at as time went on. Professional or not, it cant be easy switching to a niche event like Marble racing commentary and he did a great job of it in my opinion. I am looking forward to hearing more from him in the future.
I was thinking the exact same thing he is obviously a skilled commentator for Formula-1 but putting someone, even a professional in a new unfamiliar situation can be jarring. I Think Mr. Nicholls did a fantastic job and can only see him getting better as the Series moves on.
Actually that's exactly what I thought. As he got comfortable with this kind of event I could se he and Marbula's official commentator would have an interesting back to back interaction since Mr. Nicholls has the passion and Mr. Woods has the analysis. It would be really awesome to see them together.
Striking the right tone of treating this seriously as a competition while embracing the absurdity of humanizing marbles can't be easy. This was a very fine first effort, and the marble history color commentary was great. Excited for the rest of the season
I totally agree. He's done a pretty good job for a first go at this, and he did improve just during this first race. Greg is still by far my preference, but he has all of the experience, and I look forwards to seeing how Mr Nicholls does.

I really appreciate Jack Nicholls commentary, but he clearly miss something (maybe experience) about Marble Race. It would be great if Greg Woods could be with him maybe talking about more technical details about marbles
Yeah, the commentary was definitely spot on in terms of play-by-play. But Greg Woods always added a lot of storytelling aspect to each of the marbles, and it really enhanced the experience
yeah Greg woods commentary style usually insert more jokes and casual element unlike Nicholls since he's a commentary from a international sport thats why it sounds more "formal"

I think it would be great if the new commentator and Greg could team up to commentate together in future Marbula E races. And to be honest, I think we need longer races. They're way too short. Marble racing is just getting better and better with every race! I'll admit it, I'm addicted lol
Of course it's different guys, instead of a guy who's been doing marble commentary for years with a style we're all used to and love, we have a brand new dude who is doing his first commentary ever on a marble race, it's completely alien to him obviously, just give it some time, you and him both will get used to it. It's an amazing opportunity for Jelle and Marble Racing to reach new crowds and achieve new goals and i'm all for it!
Jack Nicholls is great. He’s the Formula E play by play guy, he does F1 podcast commentary for the BBC, he’s an internationally known big time racing voice. His mere presence lends a certain legitimacy to the proceedings. Sure it’s different than what we’re used to, but this is a bold step for Jelle’s Marble Racing and it’s a well-executed one at that. We’ll have our regular commentator back for the Marble League and next go-round for the Sand Marble Rally and Marbula 1. It’s all good.
@@jimkayser1880 I hear you mate. But having a professional takes away from what I think the entire draw of Marble racing was in the first place. It was home made. The former announcer brought the marble racing to life. He knew the players and knew how to keep running commentary going and keep it all exciting. But I'm glad he's not doing all the commentary going forward. I guess Greg's announcing was the entire reason I watched in the first place. He made you forget you were watching marbles. But yeah, mate, I understand this guy may have credentials and be associated with F1, which is understandably exciting for Jelle's Marble Racing. However, I will admit I did not finish watching either of the races. I look forward to Greg's commentary in the future!
Of course Greg will always be the voice of marble racing in my heart, but what major sport has only one commentator? It's a natural part of marble racing's growth. I thought Jack Nicholls did a pretty good job for his first go marble commentary, particularly for staying completely earnest and not doing it with a wink or smirk. I think the other thing Greg does really well that would help if Jack did more is to humanize the marbles, give them agency. It's too bad we can't get them together in the same booth right now, this is definitely a "Why not both?" situation!
I totally agree. You can feel that Greg has more experience in commentating on the marbles than Jack, but he did a good job. A little chanting could also help in the background. Somehow Greg just gets me more excited about it.

I have watched Formula E since it's start and OMG this is truely amazing. The sounds, the music, BLOODY JACK NICHOLLS commentating. This is a dream come true, I'm so happy and proud of you guys at Jelle's Marble Runs! Also for Jack: You did a fantastic job commentating your first Marbles race and I cannot wait for more of your races. I notice a few visual similarities in other teams too! Jaguar’s marble looks an awful lot like the Minty Maniacs, BMW’s marble looks like the Oceanics, and Mercedes’ marble looks like my main men the Midnight Wisps 😊
Jack Nicholls did a great job, especially for his first commentary, but he has a ways to go to reach the level of Greg Woods. That's definitely a bigger compliment to Greg than it is a slight to Jack.

I think the mic was too close to the guy's face, as well as he was telling into it. I had to turn my volume way down compared to Jelly talking. This guy needs to go. 🤷
I definitely agree. There was quite a bit of dead air during qualis, which is to be expected since I'm sure it's his first time commentating a marble run. But during the race, he really picked up his game.

Way back in the day Carson Interviewed Kermit the Frog. It starts out like you'd expect, Carson is have a bit of fun, and not really. buying in. But then, he just switches, and starts actually talking to Kermit like a real person. Then, it suddenly hits him, what he's doing. He's talking to a puppet like a real human person. I bring this up because, at about the 9 minute mark, It feels like it happens to Jack. I love marble racing, and I think Jack really got it here.
Happy that this channel still has new content despite it being so difficult to get anything done these days, but I never realized how cursed these races were without the crowd sounds. 😂

After the problem with Marblelympics name, I was surprised about the F1 trademark department assure there will not be any problems with the "Marbula One" name. And now this? I almost didn't believe when I saw this is not just a name thing, but an ACTUAL partnership with graphics and commentator included! I'm very proud of you guys! You are flying higest every day. How on earth will they film that? I can just imagine each corner having 10 GoPro's with 10 more as replacements as the Marble Endurance Championship goes on. Might just be the most logistically intense series for them ever.

I'd also love to see the sound effects we get with the other marble racing videos put into this series, because those really elevate the immersion and heighten the tension of the race
This is only to be expected given that the commentator is relatively new to the world of marble racing. To a layperson, it may appear that the marbles are simply raised to the top of the ramp and released to roll as they will, but there's a lot of skill and finesse beneath the surface that isn't always apparent until you yourself roll down the track.

When Formula E itself partners with you for Marble Racing down to the teams and the commentator of Formula E himself, you have now become legend. I was imagining Murray Walker commenting for these races, but seriously, this is just as good!!

Thoughts: Always love more of jelle so was very excited to see more racing. And partnering with actual racing org is amazing, congratulations to them for becoming so recognized. I need Greg Woods. This guy was good, and definitely felt like I was watching an actual formula 1 grand prix (which was probably the point) but Greg is what I'm familiar with, so not hearing his soothing tones was different. Props to the commentator though, he gave this the proper kind of commentary. Rooting for Dragon cause it sounds cool and has a cool looking marble, and Nio 333 is my blue marble to root for. Keep up the great work!

😭 it doesn’t feel the same without him. He brings a certain energy with every play. Greg knows a disaster when he sees one. A marble falls off the conveyor belts and he instantly knows, I have a bad feeling the new guy isn’t going to know the terminology. If he sees a marble falls off is it the same reaction? We don’t know.
This is absolutly amazing, I know nothing about formula-E or whatever it is, but he's really fun to listen too. One thing I'd like is some more ambiant noise
Formula E is a motorsport that races 100% electric race cars (hence the "E" in the name) around temporary street circuits around the globe. Pit stops are just drivers changing cars completely to get a fresh battery. They also allow fans to be more involved with the Fan Boost system wherein fans can vote for drivers to receive boosts to help them catch up or extend a lead. Unlike most other racing series that have been using simulators and video games to hold exhibition races during the current Covid-19 pandemic, Formula E has no simulator or video game. They figured partnering with JMR was the next best thing.

Of course Greg will always be the voice of marble racing in my heart, but what major sport has only one commentator? It's a natural part of marble racing's growth. I thought Jack Nicholls did a pretty good job for his first go marble commentary, particularly for staying completely earnest and not doing it with a wink or smirk. I think the other thing Greg does really well that would help if Jack did more is to humanize the marbles, give them agency.
It's too bad we can't get them together in the same booth right now, this is definitely a "Why not both?" situation!
I totally agree. You can feel that Greg has more experience in commentating on the marbles than Jack, but he did a good job. A little chanting could also help in the background.
Somehow Greg just gets me more excited about it.

Jack Nicholls did a great job, especially for his first commentary, but he has a ways to go to reach the level of Greg Woods.
That's definitely a bigger compliment to Greg than it is a slight to Jack.
Now what would be wild is if they asked Greg to guest commentate on a Formula 1 race when they get back up. Also Loved Jack he did a great job.

I definitely agree. There was quite a bit of dead air during qualis, which is to be expected since I'm sure it's his first time commentating a marble run. But during the race, he really picked up his game.

Way back in the day Carson Interviewed Kermit the Frog. It starts out like you'd expect, Carson is have a bit of fun, and not really. buying in. But then, he just switches, and starts actually talking to Kermit like a real person. Then, it suddenly hits him, what he's doing. He's talking to a puppet like a real human person.
I bring this up because, at about the 9 minute mark, It feels like it happens to Jack. I love marble racing, and I think Jack really got it here.
Happy that this channel still has new content despite it being so difficult to get anything done these days, but I never realized how cursed these races were without the crowd sounds. 😂

This is only to be expected given that the commentator is relatively new to the world of marble racing. To a layperson, it may appear that the marbles are simply raised to the top of the ramp and released to roll as they will, but there's a lot of skill and finesse beneath the surface that isn't always apparent until you yourself roll down the track.
Greg has also been commentating for jelle for the better part of 10 years, Jack Nicholls did a great job for his first marble race in my opinion

They are there though, just a bit toned down. Which I personally liked more actually. The repeating sound snippets aren't that noticeably that way.

Always love more of jelle so was very excited to see more racing. And partnering with actual racing org is amazing, congratulations to them for becoming so recognized.
I need Greg Woods. This guy was good, and definitely felt like I was watching an actual formula 1 grand prix (which was probably the point) but Greg is what I'm familiar with, so not hearing his soothing tones was different. Props to the commentator though, he gave this the proper kind of commentary.
Rooting for Dragon cause it sounds cool and has a cool looking marble, and Nio 333 is my blue marble to root for.

😭 it doesn’t feel the same without him. He brings a certain energy with every play. Greg knows a disaster when he sees one. A marble falls off the conveyor belts and he instantly knows, I have a bad feeling the new guy isn’t going to know the terminology. If he sees a marble falls off is it the same reaction? We don’t know.

This is absolutly amazing, I know nothing about formula-E or whatever it is, but he's really fun to listen too. One thing I'd like is some more ambiant noise
Formula E is a motorsport that races 100% electric race cars (hence the "E" in the name) around temporary street circuits around the globe. Pit stops are just drivers changing cars completely to get a fresh battery. They also allow fans to be more involved with the Fan Boost system wherein fans can vote for drivers to receive boosts to help them catch up or extend a lead. Unlike most other racing series that have been using simulators and video games to hold exhibition races during the current Covid-19 pandemic, Formula E has no simulator or video game. They figured partnering with JMR was the next best thing.
