The seat change helps but no matter how good the seat is that you get, the suspension quality for how low you are to the ground is the biggest issue when it comes to comfort for your rear end. But i mean its 3500 so it is what it is
I found this 3 years after the original upload but I'm saving this video. Might not have a grom or clone but I'll definitely use this video as a starting point when I get one! Great job on the video, you make me want one now.

Right on Michael. Welcome to the world of motorcycles. It is a love that will last for a lifetime. I got my first motorcycle in 1976. A Indian Mx 100. White with red letters. Cool bike for a 6 yr old. Buying a grom in March.
As someone who is looking at picking up their first bike and has fallen in love with the Grom, your videos are superb. Thank you for the content. Could I get something else? Absolutely. I keep coming back to the Grom, though.
That's how I got 3 years ago man, I've had several groms now and have never looked back! They are so much fun! Very glad you're enjoying my content! Keep watching!
Been looking to get a grom for a few months now, this vid is a huge help! Got right to the point and was great isolating the different ares of the bike that could be modded, will definitely look into your recommendations!
Awesome video mate. So much good info, ive done zoom exhaust, chimera intake and pc5. Awesome mods! Thanks for the advice. I agree, the original tyres are sketchy too. Will look at upgrading them.
That's awesome, those 3 performance mods get you where you need to be without compromising engine reliability! Get you some Michelin Power Pures, they're great on street! Thanks for watching!
Nice Video man. I would encourage people to check your local laws before you start doing the integrated blinkers. In my state blinkers are required to be 9 inches apart. I'm sure that is why manufacturers have these big blinkers that stick out so far from the bike, it allows them to meet all the different state laws. I found this out the hard way on one of my other bikes. The ticket cost me about 5 times what the cost of the blinker integration did. For the Grom I just went with some smaller LED blinkers.
Thanks for commenting and good insight, the same laws apply here, it either 9 or 10 inches between the two blinkers to be legal here in CA. I dont personally mess with the blinkers for that reason.
I am currently looking at getting my very first bike and diving into the rabbit hole of Grom videos and research over the last few months hopefully can find a good deal on one soon and pick her up before my very first child, my daughter gets here haha going to have to manage my budget between the two! This video was very insightful and I appreciate all your shared knowledge and opinions. I hope you're still doing well and riding the Grom
If budget is a concern, look at the clones too. I’ve got two for almost half the price, shipped to my door. Gotta do a few extra safety checks and basic mods you’d end up doing anyways. But it’s cheap and they’re fun as hell!
one thing i would also recommend for the stunt grom is a aftermarket oil pickup line or whatever it’s called cause when you’re doing wheelies on a stock grom all the oil goes to the bottom end and leaves the top end dry and it’ll smoke your motor
Just got a Grom today from Action Honda. This video is gold and when he said $13 for the tail light I was like oh shit I’m gonna have like 3 different built Groms. So many parts and options to choose from. Can’t wait to dive in!

I just love how much you can do to a Grom and all the prices are reasonable. Once you go bigger on a bike or even car, the cost of everything inflates. So with a Grom, you can still have a ton of fun, keep your hobby going, even wild mods, and it still isn't like the most insane shizz ever deep in a debt hole or something. If you damage something or something doesn't work out for you, you can change it without big issues. The community around it is pretty huge too. Just feels like the right kind of thing for someone looking for a sensible hobby.
just got an ‘18 grom with the protapers and a yoshi exhaust, very informative video definitely gonna look into a lot of things you mentioned in the video!
A lot of good ideas for the grom here. The most important are the first mods ie intake exhaust tuner and esp oil cooler and filter. Esp if you live in the south but i'd do it in the north too, is the oil cooler. Get a temp gauge if your oil is over 170 you need the cooler and i bet it will be. Interesting the narrator of the well done video has the cooler but downplays its usefulness. Also to go with the cooler is high output oil pump.
I'd recommend if you're stunting and don't have money for a cage, leave the stock fender on. It's saved my brake light and rear plastics quite a few times when I looped
Glad you talked about the vee rubbers. Those things are a death sentence especially for a new rider. I went maxxis and will happily never come back. Awesome video man. Subscribed!
Thanks for watching and commenting! There’s nothing like riding a motorcycle! Grom or my other bike - a Honda Trail 90 make outstanding learning bikes do to there relatively low power, low seat height and low maintenance engines. You can learn very safely and move up slowly! Enjoy! Good luck!
Tamim Suhail Lots of community colleges have the classes. In some states (Nevada one of them) the class gets you out of taking the test at DMV as their end of class test is exact same... take class paperwork to DMV, get photo taken, give an autograph and cash and get your license mailed to you... Most classes have multiple bikes, try a couple types... have fun!
Tamim Suhail get a dirt bike it’s the most safe way to learn how to ride. If you have a friend with a 125 try to ride their bike to get a feel for the clutch than get a 250 so you can feel some power. Riding in the dirt is more slippery than the road so it helps you learn what your tires can do with out sliding out. Than you can feel comfortable getting a normal size bike to ride on the road. I started with a 125 when I was 11 got a 250 when I was 15 than when I was 22 I was able to ride my dads Harley Davidson dyna glide with no problem and that’s a fairly good sized bike. I still have the Harley since he gave it to me when he passed but I’m working on getting it running again. Hopefully you’ve got something to ride on by now.
@@CTGromer The compound is definitely alot stickier. Liking it so far. I wanted the Michelins but they were out of stock. Those Vee Rubbers had to go. Haha. :)
One other thing I’m an old man that still rides. I’m not into wheelies and stunting but I would like the Grom to have a bit more top end so I’m going with a 16T front sprocket and 32T Rear I like cruising!
justin off ahhh man you’re right! Completely forgot about this mod under “stunt mods”. Probably because I don’t do long wheelies. Christian does though, his bike (vinyl wrapped one) has it, just forgot to discuss it!
@@myovertime5991 Thanks for watching the video! Christian just drilled hole in the case and used two 90 degree brass fittings and copper tubing. tons of youtube videos on this. He says if he could do it all again, he would buy an oil pump from "Straight up pumps" Check them out!
@@CTGromer Thanks, I'll bookmark it right now! I'm looking at selling my 2018 mt-07 next year and buying a stunt grom, doing all my research now because I'm too excited haha. Awesome video btw!
@@andre1000 The volume of air entering a piston chamber is dynamic, in real world scenarios, never static. Many arguments can be made. The most relevant argument would be that the density of air changes with altitude.
@@DarkLinkAD yes true it's dynamic like having a clogged air filter can effect performance, but most of this depends on how air is metered and how fuel is delivered. An intake on these bikes isn't changing much really. Not enough to NEED a fuel controller. But it's still a good mod to get more every bit of performance and smoothness.
Hey man I'm located in Long Island New York where u guys from .. I don't really have any friends so videos is where I get my knowledge ,but I wish I had the knowledge or friends who know and could help ..but I have a motorbike and I need to finesse the carb or something probably other things too so I can maximize the hp ..but I am trying to learn how..u seem to have alot of skills when it comes to motorcycles..great video BTW and happy riding
Hey Dan, thank you for the nice comment. Get in there and fix that carb, they're not too difficult, youtube is how I've learned everything that I've learned about motorcycles too, especially maintenance.
You forgot to mention the Pro Taper bars , levers and rear sets. Although you are mostly talking about performance, these would still be cool mentionables.
Nice mods make the bike look total different..but for me since I'm a old dude I'll just go with the seats, lic plate bracket, exhaust and front sprocket..
@@CTGromer Not if, but when in about 2 weeks! I live in remote Western Australia its a 1800 kilometre round trip to pick it up! Be interesting to see how it handles the Gibb River road!

@@CTGromer one last thing, do you have links by chance? I'm trying to find the rearsets and wheelie bar here but all I'm able to come up with are the cheap ones from ebay that look tacky ha.

CT Gromer Tell him you have a yt subscriber that you met and is curious what he would sell it for.... if he gives you a price you’re willing to spend say, “shit, for that price, I’ll buy it!” “And BOOM goes the dynamite.” -Cleveland Brown
It’s a big upgrade! The Grom gets hot, so getting the oil away from the engine to cool it really helps. Also, doing a full oil and filter change each time is good for piece of mind. Cleaning the oil screen and the spinner is a tedious and frustrating job.
Hey man awesome vid. What is a reasonable price for these groms. I’m in the market for one and I’m planning on installing mods but I don’t know if What I should look for in terms of price. What are your thoughts or anyone else who reads this.
Thanks for watching and commenting! The springs are Race tech, Tactical Mindz has them, but I believe you can pic kthem up cheaper currently on Amazon.
For the stunt mods bike you guys forgot to talk about the oil pump mod. Taking the oil pump out and disassembling it then drilling the 1/4 hole to fit a 1/4 copper pipe in and having that run to the rear of the cases which acts like a straw to get oil to the pump and then to the top end when in wheelies
This is true and there have been several mentions of it here in the comment section, you guys are on it! If I did the video now, I would tell everyone the easiest solution is to just purchase a Straight Up Pump, but you can definitely make your own like you describe here.
@@CTGromer Yeah it’s definitely a budget mod, I wish I would have bought the straight up pump. Would have only taken 10 minutes max vs. 2 days to let the RTV dry up
Thanks so much for the kind words! Yes, the "OG" Groms were available new from 2014-2015. The new "SF" models are from 2017-2019 now. The differences are mostly cosmetic, most notable being the new LED headlight and the big hump in the stock seat of the SF. The SF has restyled plastics and rear sets and most of them have IRC tires instead of Vee Rubbers. From an engine and performance standpoint, nothing is different.
There is currently no emissions testing for motorcycles in california so you'll be fine. its just nearly impossible to get aftermarket exhausts and intakes and programmers online to ship to california anymore.
I'm going to get everything on this list done but I'm going to do a exhaust system ride and ride the parts I have from factory until they need changing and just change most the parts like the filter and other stuff.
Easily the best $80 I've spent on the bike, if you look closely, half way through the video I changed out the loud yellow and white "protaper" padding to a more matching red "Honda" logo on the bars. Waaay better. What bars are you going to go with on your grom?
@@CTGromer yes even though it’s a loncin engine it’s just like the grom 5 engine mounts it’s on a rojo efi system the ecu can be upgraded using a Bluetooth adapter for it
I'll consider it brother, a stock ECU will make that adjustment for you. However, if you're running PCV or a re-flashed ECU I'm actually not sure what happens. Sounds like it's worth investigating! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for investigation for us. I know it’s probably possible since I have a stock ecu and it shows how to do it in the Manuel but I can’t get it right
I was looking into the grom, but not for stunting. If a guy geared up 2 teeth on the drive sprocket and down 2 on the rear, would that make it more highway friendly? (In the slow lane... probably with exhaust and tune)
@@CTGromer OK thank you maybe you could help me I drive about 15 miles each way to work on 2 lane roads and just want to get something a little bit more powerful and a little faster to stay up with traffic you have recipe for exhaust fuel air may a cam. I don't ride it alone. Thanks Mike.

Good stuff man. Very informative.
Appreciate it! That's what the channel's goal is!
Great info ! Just got my grom yesterday
Congrats bro! Enjoy! be safe and get into a group to ride locally in your area!
The first mod i did was to change out the Vee Rubber tires. Running ContiScoot now. What a world of difference. :)
Oh heck yeah dude, best safety mod out there. How do you like them? I run the Michelin power pures!
I learned to wheelie on a stock sprocket it was hard but I learned now well I’m able to keep it up for almost all wheeies
I would suggest getting the MSX 1 mid fairing kit it look SICK!
I do agree they look great!
why does everyone miss the oil pump mod
justin off ahhh man you’re right! Completely forgot about this mod under “stunt mods”. Probably because I don’t do long wheelies. Christian does though, his bike (vinyl wrapped one) has it, just forgot to discuss it!
@@CTGromer What is that mod? Did he get a kit for it or did he drill a hole?
@@myovertime5991 Thanks for watching the video! Christian just drilled hole in the case and used two 90 degree brass fittings and copper tubing. tons of youtube videos on this. He says if he could do it all again, he would buy an oil pump from "Straight up pumps" Check them out!
@@CTGromer Thanks, I'll bookmark it right now! I'm looking at selling my 2018 mt-07 next year and buying a stunt grom, doing all my research now because I'm too excited haha. Awesome video btw!
@Dodge Rider my homie romps on his built143 highway all day and doesnt see over 250. no oil cooler
Intake does not change air volume, a fuel controller is not needed. It helps fine tune but it is not needed if the intake is changed.
Arguably, it does but (A huge but) its not nearly significant. Elevation for example is a far more dramatic change in performance.
@@DarkLinkAD explain please. cause unless your changing pistons, rods, boring out the cylinder, or adding force induction volume doesn't change.
@@DarkLinkAD Side note: density and what not. I think these bikes account for that with a map sensor I believe.
I did mention bars and rearsets- gotta watch the whole thing bro! Thanks for commenting :)
Nice mods make the bike look total different..but for me since I'm a old dude I'll just go with the seats, lic plate bracket, exhaust and front sprocket..
The oil spinner reminds me of the old Triumph's with their sludge trap.
Honda's been doing it this way on their motors since the 60s, tried and true low-tech solutions.
Hopefully picking up the mini me in a week or two! 😍😍😍
Good luck! Let me know if you get one!
@@CTGromer Not if, but when in about 2 weeks! I live in remote Western Australia its a 1800 kilometre round trip to pick it up! Be interesting to see how it handles the Gibb River road!
Man I would love one of these for my commute to work!!
I just found your channel.. and the 1st 3m of your video made me subscribe.. love the detail info for sure.. vid is a little long but still like it..
I really appreciate the feedback! Thank you for the sub!
Cool mods and video. Groms 🤘
I appreciate the compliment, glad you're enjoying the content!
@@CTGromer yah im hoping to get a grom soon, gonna use it to learn parking lot stunts
Thank you for the video and mod list in the description 👍🏻
I'm really glad you enjoyed the content and took the time to watch and comment!
Great video man! I've watched 2 more of your other videos. Solid advice! Subbed and hit the bell!
Means the world to me brother, thank you so much for subbing and watching, stay tuned!
yoshimura is so quite even with baffle out, toce or akrapovic sounds way better. more bends in a pipe the torque it will provide
Thanks for commenting! I like the quieter aftermarket pipes, the louder ones give me a a headache and leave me with ringing ears when I'm done riding! I'll have to look at those other brands you mentioned!
Most likely gonna look into these mods once I get my Grom especially the integrated & smoked turn signal indicators.
Glad you enjoyed found something you want to do! Getting a grom is a good choice! Thanks for commenting!
Thank you! i have been trying to find a good mod video for groms for a while now. you made it simple, to the point with pleeennntttyyyy of info and you give WHY answers! #SUBSCRIBED

@@CTGromer one last thing, do you have links by chance? I'm trying to find the rearsets and wheelie bar here but all I'm able to come up with are the cheap ones from ebay that look tacky ha.

Im looking at a Grom as a daily commuter. 30 miles one way. low traffic highway and dirt roads for most of it. thanks for the tips.
Can it do it? Yes. Would it be the best bike for a commute like that? Probably not just from a comfort standpoint. But if you're a young guy, go for it. It'll be a fun commute every day!
sounds like u want ur buddies grom and not yours
thanks for watching, it's a nice bike, no doubt! Think he'd sell it to me? I'm to scared to ask him
CT Gromer
Tell him you have a yt subscriber that you met and is curious what he would sell it for.... if he gives you a price you’re willing to spend say, “shit, for that price, I’ll buy it!”
“And BOOM goes the dynamite.” -Cleveland Brown
Im picking up a grom tomorrow its got the oil cover and cooler upgrade was half the reason i choose it lol
It’s a big upgrade! The Grom gets hot, so getting the oil away from the engine to cool it really helps. Also, doing a full oil and filter change each time is good for piece of mind. Cleaning the oil screen and the spinner is a tedious and frustrating job.
you turn it into a dirt bike like i did with mine yet? LMFAOOO
That little box IS the ECU!!!
52k views! Dam gratz man.
Thank you very much. I can't believe it. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hey man awesome vid. What is a reasonable price for these groms. I’m in the market for one and I’m planning on installing mods but I don’t know if What I should look for in terms of price. What are your thoughts or anyone else who reads this.
Was looking for a video like this for my 2019 grom. Great video thanks for sharing definitely subscribing
joshua rivera congrats on your new Grom! Thank you for the sub and welcome to the channel!
Hey CT, great video, thanks for putting it together.
Do you have anymore information on the front fork kit?
Thanks for watching and commenting! The springs are Race tech, Tactical Mindz has them, but I believe you can pic kthem up cheaper currently on Amazon.
I like the front signal with an smoked lens an led bulb . Easy an very nice 👍
I agree, much more stylish and subtle. The big orange stock turn signals are awful.
2 days to let the RTV dry up
Great vid, thanks. Is there much/any difference between the different manufacture years of Grom, or are they all the same ... ?
Thanks so much for the kind words! Yes, the "OG" Groms were available new from 2014-2015. The new "SF" models are from 2017-2019 now. The differences are mostly cosmetic, most notable being the new LED headlight and the big hump in the stock seat of the SF. The SF has restyled plastics and rear sets and most of them have IRC tires instead of Vee Rubbers. From an engine and performance standpoint, nothing is different.
CT Gromer - Great, thank you Sir! Thanks for the reply and keep up the great vids! Be well - K
@@kierenmoore3236 Same to you! Thanks for watching the content!
With the emissions in Cali. I’m gonna be moving there. How do you pass emissions with the exhaust intake and tuning
There you go, its a daunting list, but if you do it over time its not so bad.
Love the new bars and grips, That was going to be the next thing I was going to do.
Easily the best $80 I've spent on the bike, if you look closely, half way through the video I changed out the loud yellow and white "protaper" padding to a more matching red "Honda" logo on the bars. Waaay better. What bars are you going to go with on your grom?
@@CTGromer You have my Grom
scottbapilot ahhh yes THAT Scott!! Still looks new right?! Almost 1300 miles on her now!
@@CTGromer She looks Beautiful, Glad she is getting used the right way
Do you think this is a good first bike? not planning on riding the highway anyways
I do, it's low to the ground, light, forgiving power, low maintenance, and cheap to own. All good things.
Thank God I have a Motrac M5 stock 9.5 hp so far love the efi system going to put the grom bbk on it with the rojo efi system
Will grom engine components fit that bike?
@@CTGromer yes even though it’s a loncin engine it’s just like the grom 5 engine mounts it’s on a rojo efi system the ecu can be upgraded using a Bluetooth adapter for it
@@mrsmrriverasanchez9291 That's awesome!
@@CTGromer I’m new to this so TH-cam forums this is my first bike ever hopefully I can get a grom soon seems a lot less complicated
If you don't have the budget for a Power Commander, could you also get a kit to reflash your ecu? It's cheaper but does it work any better?
Get cjr to reflash your Ecu much better
It works just the same, and I would highly recommend the Reflash service from DHM Motoring :)
Make a video covering how to change the setting on your grom for those who ride at a higher elevation?
I'll consider it brother, a stock ECU will make that adjustment for you. However, if you're running PCV or a re-flashed ECU I'm actually not sure what happens. Sounds like it's worth investigating! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for investigation for us. I know it’s probably possible since I have a stock ecu and it shows how to do it in the Manuel but I can’t get it right
@@michaelrodriguez7347 It should auto-adjust after 20-30 miles at the new elevation

"GROM~0N" !!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! More content dropping soon!
Now I really want a grom
I'm telling you, they're the best! Thanks for commenting!
The honda clones exhaust sounds much better than any yoshi exhaust.
Just picked up my first grom! Already put 1400 miles on it in a month. I’m also in CT!! What town are you from?
I was looking into the grom, but not for stunting. If a guy geared up 2 teeth on the drive sprocket and down 2 on the rear, would that make it more highway friendly? (In the slow lane... probably with exhaust and tune)
How much will the power commander only help the bike with top speed and performance
Power commander doesn't really increase felt performance so much as it richens your fuel air mixture so that your grom isn't running dangerously lean.
Open Intake: What about RAIN? we get plenty in the N East. Will the bike DROWN without the stock box?
Hey man new on this Grom scene but I really like how informative your content to me as a new rider. I have a question do I need a power commander if i set up a yosh and a chimera short ram.? Thankz more power to your channel.
Congrats on joining the scene, and thanks so much for the compliment on the channel! The short version answer to your question: Yes, you need AFR correction. Cheapest way to do it would be to send your ECU to DHMotoring and have him flash it. For more understanding on this topic I actually just did a video on AFR: th-cam.com/video/kK4li_-YqvI/w-d-xo.html
oil radiator, question: Did You take readings of oil temperature before fit radiator? just curious.
Ive fit oil temp sensor coz had issue to oil engine contamination of water, condensation, monitored, top was 120cel at outdoor temp 35cel, summer, other days mild low temp max was 85cel. Base at UK.
Hey thanks for watching and commenting! No, I didn't do any before and after measurements, I purchased the bike with the oil cooler attached.
Great video. Is the Yosi the best pipe?
In my opinion, its the best pipe for making power, yes.
this list of mods is 90% the same of any bike I have ever owned in the past 35 years - lol
Glenn Davis even the stunt equipment?? Thanks for commenting!

@@CTGromer yes it is a Lifan .Believe it or not CT Gromer lifan makes quality bikes since 2016 . Lifan now is not your average crap china manufacture
@@gromkiller7611 I didn't know that, what happened in 2016 that changed the engine quality?
@@CTGromer lifan partnered with MV Augusta Motorcycles in 2014 and the next 2 years of this partnership yielded a lot of research and development from MV and has been incorporated into 2016 and newer Lifan motorcycles. I have owned 5 china made bikes . This is my second Lifan the first Lifan was a 2012 and it had hella issues . My kp mini is still new but I can tell it really has been built well with quality parts . My brother has a 2016 Lifan and it has 35,000 miles on it and has no problems except a headlight bulb that burns out every 4 months . I have done my homework . Dont get me wrong there are still a ton of china made motorcycle manufacturers that still absolutely sell trash . But Lifan has turned the corner and looking at a great future in the USA market in a few more years as long as they keep it up. I dont even know if the kp mini can even be called a grom clone because they sell 4 different styles of 150cc mini's but either way mini motors are fun as hell to drive .
