Mnuchin’s overarching point today was that the next bill will be largely focused on getting people back to work.
The sticking point that we’ve been having with the $600 additional unemployment is many workers face lower income if they leave unemployment and go back to work. This is a major issue with many Republican members.
Mnuchin seems to be in favor of a return to work bonus that would incentivise workers to return to work. The most popular return to work proposal right now is a plan that would give $450 a week to workers who are currently on unemployment to return to work. This would be in addition to the worker’s normal wages.
A $450 bonus would save the government (and effectively all of us) 10s of billions of dollars by the end of the year. The $450 number was chosen because it would ensure the average worker making minimum wage would earn more employed than they would on unemployment.
Mnuchin also expressed that he is against the idea to reduce capital gains taxes on businesses. He felt this reduction doesn't seem necessary in light of the extraordinary measures taken by the Federal Reserve to bolster the financial system and markets.
Mnuchin also talked about more PPP funding to help increase employment however he believes that another round would have to be very narrowly targeted to the businesses that are hit the hardest.

Secretary Mnuchin stated he and the Trump administration are going to seriously look at whether we want to do more direct money to stimulate the economy.
This statement gave me a ton of hope for a second round of checks. We already know that Trump has mentioned several times that he likes the idea of another stimulus payment and we now know his admin are seriously considering it.

So the point is, people are making over $600 to sit at home while I still go to work every day but can't make enough to cover all my bills. So yes, I AM suffering thru months of anxiety worrying about losing everything I own. And yes, you did make a foolish remark.

My roommate works as waiter as he finishes law school, he's making DOUBLE his usual income(from $500/wk to $875/wk)with no incentive to return to work...Meanwhile, mom & sis are nurses who are jeopardizing themselves just to keep bills paid. I lost my stepdad and uncle two days apart from Covid-19 last month. Now I must witness Mommy suffer from guilt & grief because she knows it is possible she introduced the virus to our family, even though she's tested negative. I don't understand why you want extra money for doing the same job BEFORE the pandemic as you had during just because you were deemed "essential"? All jobs are essential and if your talking "hazard pay", well lots of people that are not deemed "essential" still have dangerous or higher risk jobs than most but don't getvextra for showing up all day. If you were not prepared to do the job you were hired for at the rate agreed upon then quit. Grow up,grow a set and go to work!
@@patlee9704 Dangerous jobs are payed at a higher wage already because the danger was already assessed and awarded. This is a different situation in that the workers did not sign up for working in a more hazardous environment at the onset. The companies the employees work at have a responsibility to protect the workers from such an illness (workers rights). So precautions are put into place and limitations are kept. Thus the case, a number of factors also accrue for the individual worker and an adjustment period must be measured. Hazard pay not only covers working in a higher risk related job, but also insures extra funds can be put towards precautions such as cleaning and sanitizing products to potentially avoid bringing illness back into the home of the employee's family.
EVERY job is essential.
People have been sitting home on unemployment raking in a extra 600. Thats BS to begin with. It is okay to make what you were making. But 600 extra. And now we have to pay you a additional 450 to get you off the couch and working . I am a truck driver that has worked throughout. I am not making a extra 600 to not work. And am definitely not gonna have to get enticed with a extra 450 to work. If you have a job to go back to. Then go. And be grateful you made a extra 600 . And got a stimulus check. Don't be greedy.

So they're thinking of a reward for those who return to the workforce. Yet no one is considering anything for the essential workers that continued to help those in need. Many family members were forced to work extended hours and be away from their own families. So...are they only receiving a "thank buddy" and nothing else?
I'm an essential worker that is afraid daily my electric will be shut off, can't afford to put new tags on my car yet make it to work every scheduled shift. It makes me physically sick that dishwashers that were temporarily laid off are sitting pretty and being paid to go back to washing dishes way more than I clear for nursing patients to health and putting my self on the front line during the entire ordeal. Vent over for now damn it

Turn the office buildings into small low-income micro-apartment rentals. Intercity rent in most large cities is not affordable for service workers. HOMES!!!

Republicans were openly whining about losing money less than TWO MONTHS into the shutdown. Some Florida beaches are open now. Meanwhile, 2,000+ people are testing positive for COVID-19 EACH DAY in the state.

Still waiting on unemployment to process my claim since April! Status says open, vouchers filed. Still not received a cent. Calling doesn’t help. All they say is they are overwhelmed with claims. I call BS on Indiana’s Unemployment workers knowing what they are doing.Anyone else not holding their breath???
My Son still haven't received his unemployment yet either it's been hard.
I havent recieved mine yet after filing in april either. I was told to try to call the governors office. Someone I spoke to lastnight had good luck with that. So that's what I'm going to try

Here is some great 'incentive' to return to work: Turn down the opportunity to work and you will lose your unemployment benefits; just like it has been a standard for many years and has always been the effective incentive to get people to go to work! Giving people a bonus to go do their job is just as ridiculous as paying them unemployment in excess of their working wage. What a bunch of morons claiming to be the leadership of our nation! A child has more common sense than many politicians!
I've been an employer. I understand a lot of employers aren't turning employees in for not returning. I honestly don't think I could have made someone I knew, worked alongside, etc., homeless and starving. Let alone their whole family.

That is really good to hear. I work for Amazon here in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are told that we will fall under the "Hero's Act of 2020." With that we are supposed to receive backup pay from a point in time till the bill is passed. Also included will be "Hazard Pay." I am hoping they will fo this very soon.

Exactly. My husband, a 40 yr old man who busts his you know what and has worked this entire plandemic scamdemic and received absolutely ZERO hazard pay. Where's our assistance? That 1200 was gone in a week. With kids and bills that wasn't sh*t. And, to keep talking about paying people to go back to work, what are we, 12 years old waiting on our allowance.......!! This whole thing pisses me off.

I work 28 hours a week and I am considered an essential worker, I had to pay taxes this year! For the first time in my life! Where is my stimulus check?
Do I have to file taxes to get the second Stimulus check? I’m on SSDI and didn’t have money withheld from my monthly check last year. I don’t have to because I don’t make enough

I never got the first one and after being turned down for unemployment (a letter of 0), I did my own research and found out about Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. which I filled out online. One month later I spend every morning from 8AM to 12 noon calling and hearing that they are overwhelmed and can't help me right now. I'm starting to feel that they ran out of money and they are closed. Either that, we are far to close to the reset for it to matter!
