I am a commercial actress and they would never spring a whole script on you like that. It would be totally counterproductive for them as commercials involve an extortionate amount of money and they want you to be the best you can be. You usually get the script the day before but you'll have seen it already at the casting before you even booked the job. Also, they never ask you to say 'take one, take two' etc, they made the girls do that so they could edit them saying higher and higher numbers to try and make them look silly. It's totally normal to do 20 plus takes. Can we also note that Jenah was only 18 years old here, respect to her for handling herself with such dignity and grace in this awful situation.
Agreed. I'm an actress as well and the way they're shooting seems totally silly to me: let's do one long take with a bunch of dialogue that we just gave you and hour ago an have you film that first? The final product is gonna have a bunch of edits and cuts and a lot of this dialogue would prob be VO anyway. They're just wasting time, money, and abusing these poor girls
Yup. Did some commercials when I was younger and the experience is pretty much the same: 1. I've been handed a script the day before a shoot, but it's usually the same script in casting or a slightly different one with minimal edits. 2. I've never seen anyone do one long take over and over again. The entire commercial (usually 30 secs long only or at most 1 minute after edits) is shot in short segments most likely to avoid going over ad minutes. They'll want to be able to easily cut the stuff that isn't needed. 3. It's the production crew that does most of the work, adjusting and readjusting props, lights, etc. I don't think I've ever been on a shoot with this much senseless noise.
Thanks for this insight, I didn't know how these productions work behind the scenes. So I totally didn't clock just how unbelievably unfair this really was. 😤😤😤 And let's be real, I'm sure that in the behind the scenes of this show, they have multiple short takes when judges, Mr. Jay, or guests are explaining things. So I'm sure that the girls even knew, or at least suspected, that this was not how commercial production shoots are supposed to work.
I loved Jenah's commercial so much. Her little chuckle and biting the fruit was so cute! You literally see those in alot of commercials and the fact that they said that she was "making fun of it" was so ignorant.
She was being herself and I love that for her, and that smile at the end is so real and cute - how dare they said she's making fun of it!? noooooo - what a joke ... !!?
The photographers consistently loved Jenah, and I thought she represented a more mature edginess that girls who weren’t always perfect and happy could look up to - especially since looking after her little sisters was such an important part of her life. As a young girl who didn’t quite fit in, I probably would have related to her the best as ANTM.
I wasn't familiar with her and her story before this, so when she mentioned she'd had to take care of her little sisters, it made Chantal's comment about her not being the type of girl she'd want her sisters looking up to REALLY stick out as being incredibly hurtful. I have no doubt that comment was probably coached from her by production for exactly that reason, but just...ouch.
It does still bother me that Chantal said she wouldn't want her sisters to look up to Jenna. Even for a girl who didn't raise her younger siblings, that's hurtful. Also not that relevant to modeling. I hope she apologized.
@@Echo-mg5em Chantal has said she felt that way at the time but does feel bad for saying that. They were prompted to say it but I do feel like she was quite harsh.
To be fair, once the judges started prompting Jenah to spill her life story, both girls looked like they regretted saying what they did? Idk. Hard to tell with TV.
What we have to remember is that they did her a kindness by letting her go this show was so damaging every minute they were on it. And if you believe in spiritual things they were being used for their energy
I'm 10000% sure the production knew from the beginning that Saleisha was gonna win this because she was Tyra's protegé at the time. And they didn't expect Jenah to do so well at the end, so they had to invent this narrative to bring her down.
Yes! I thought Jenah did great, while Saleisha, although still amazing, did... a bit less good job. Like, you can see they way the handle her having too many takes and how the treated Jenah. It's all about the narrative they wanted to go with and it's heartbreaking
I really hate that Jay apparently goes on interviews now and tries to paint himself as one of the victims of Tyra's wrath when he very frequently seemed to laugh at the models, relish in their anguish, constantly made faces and was impatient, and never seemed so bothered as he always had quips and insults for the girls at the ready. Yeah, must have been really hard for him to do all the while collecting his paychecks.
In a way he was a victim to tyra's wrath and i only say this because he truly didn't have control since ultimately the final decision was always tyras and ken's. However the way he spoke to them.... i agree with you! He cannot act like it never happened and like it was something he was forced to say. That bothered me in his reviews on jay's chat.
@@23Echeo i didn't say his behavior was excused. Don't think really read and understood my comment. What i said was he is a victim (and i think we all know we're using that term very lightly in this case lol) for is his role as executive producer as he truly didn't have the ability to do anything without Tyra and Ken's approval which he pointed out in the Jay's Chat that i mentioned. He has a right to talk about how Tyra treated him and you cannot take that from him. So he is a victim of TYRA. He was a bully to the models
Jenna's commercial was the best by far. It seemed the most professional and also the most flawless and easygoing and likeble. They obviously have a narrative and a planned out ending that they're trying very hard to force. HOW DARE they give her an awful invalidating "therapy session" like that in front of everyone. Like you said exploiting her feelings for profit.
This is actually the only episode of americas top model that I've ever seen and it gave me such a bad feeling that i never attempted to watch it again.
During the judging evaluation of Jenah's commercial, the judges basically went from saying Jenah comes across arrogant/cocky to saying she lacks confidence. lol. They can't make up their minds on a story line they want to put on her, apparently.
Actually they were spot on. Jenah due to her past was forced to put on a fake front in order to be a a source of strength for her sisters. She couldn't let her feelings and insecurities show. Over compensating with false bravado and a nothing phases me attitude [which comes across as arrogant] Hiding her insecurities and lack of confidence from her younger siblings by projecting a 'I got this, don't you worry persona.
As someone with a lot of protection barriers, a lot of resentment toward the past and toward family, this is disgusting. Those barriers are part of who we are. All we are in life are our experiences and how we deal with them. By forcing her to view her own self and her situation this way like she's the bad guy for having a defense mechanism, Tyra TOOK something from Jenah. She didn't "find her real self", she brought up a traumatic part of her history and broke her down. It's horrible.
Yea, it hurts extra to put down your barriers and then just get slapped in the face. It makes you feel stupid and like you should have never put them down AND on top of that those protective walls just get even thicker from such a horrible experience. Poor girl.
They aren’t therapist! No one on that panel is trained to handle or help someone break through that type of trauma. If that girl would have killed herself after this. They would have buried this scene probably the whole season.
They asked her why she have an armor. Well, they kept attacking her character over and over again so, of course she’ll get defensive. They catered this cycle for Saleisha to win and they have to grab a reason to eliminate the other girls. At this stage, it was easier to attack and eliminate Jenah on the personality level since she have the better portfolio out of the three.
Personality does matter in this show though and cover girl was part of the prize so maybe cover girl liked the other two girls better? Maybe if it was pure modeling she would win but they wanted someone who fit the cover girl brand too. When Brittany won in cycle 16 cover girl had evolved and it was no longer all about the bubbly cutesy girl. Brittany was edgy and she still embodied cover girl because the standards had changed
Saleshia was constantly one of he worst ones, nothing against her as I think she improved so much and she is pretty with a good personality but totally agree they just wanted her to win no matter what.
The difference of treatment between Jenah and Saleisha , is really so obvious. I saw people saying that Saleisha's victory wasn't rigged ,but I am sorry I can't change my mind it's litteraly on tape how they manipulated every bit of it to make Jenah look bad and Saleisha look good ( not coming at her just saying I still believe the competition was rigged)
I think there was a season when Tyra asked that "who has the most potential" question and got mad because a majority of the girls said one or more of other girls had more potential than themselves and no one deserved to go home. Then Tyra did this whole speech about how they should've said themselves as best and someone as worse because they're in a competition
@@Nessa_0315 I really wish I could remember. I'm fairly certain it was a season before Jenah. Might've been in the season with Dani, Joanie, and Jade which I believe is season 6. It would've been fairly early because there were more than 3 ladies to go through and it happened during panel. I'll have to back and watch what I can to find it.
I really hated this season. Jenah is the clear winner, she never came off as rude and disrespectful the entire season, i really loved her! They just needed something to eliminate her on, that's why they created this narrative before the top 2. It's harder to justify saleisha's winning antm if jenah made it to top 2, that's why they choose chantal. They were obviously setting saleisha to win.
Watching this video made me realize that they were really pushing Saleshia to win. They allow her to take a break, they weren't upset over the fact it took her 20 takes, they look friendly with each other, and so much more.
True. Salisha was definitely the favorite. I’m sure it gave her confidence feeling like the favorite. This treatment was shown in front of the camera I can’t imagine the unfairness we did not see.
As someone who's been acting (at some points full-time) for seven years, I can honestly say that out of the three videos, Jennah's was easily the best, and I'm confident that most people in the field would agree with that. None of them did badly considering how much time they were given to learn the lines, but the other two girls came off to me as stiff and artificial. Jennah was the only one who didn't look like she was reading directly off of a script.
AGREED, I do work in film, maybe not yet professional, but I saw my fair share of auditions. Yeah I could see why the laugh at the end could be seen as unprofessional but that could easily be edited out, no big deal. I feel like they only kept that just to find something negative to say about Jenah since the other girls, they look like they were reading off the script.
"This is a real ad. This is the ad that runs" Guess they didn't care for it too much since they gave the girls what' a hour to learn and act everything perfect? (also, what's your stand on models being judged on acting skills?)
I feel it’s fair at THIS point in the competition, considering the winner was supposed to be a spokesperson for Covergirl. But at the same time, that shouldn’t supersede their modeling ability.
@@Missab4000 totally agree, I just wish they gave the girls a chance to succeed, by actually giving them like a day at least to memorize the commercial!
Not once did I ever see any top model CoverGirl campaigns. Not on TV, not in store, not in magazine. And I remember one of the winners doing a behind the scenes show on VH1 a couple years after the show ended and said that winning meant nothing because there was no career support, it was all lies
bruh. they said the PRINT ad aka a photo was the ad they would run nationally if they won. the commercial was separate. did you not hear that part??????????? they said it pretty loud and clear to me?
Meanwhile in Cycle 3, back when Tyra took the time to do heart-to-hearts with the girls, she said that anytime a model was talking down about another model or gossiping about her, it came from a place of insecurity. I would have answered that I wasn’t worried about who had the least potential because even though their strengths were different from mine, we’re all in competition with ourselves and I could only work on bettering myself. But we all know these still-young girls were really in competition with the judges.
Not only did they use her insecurity against her. They were looking for a knot to tie her storyline of "self discovery" and when Tyra said "you found Jenah" it was over for her. Personal life exploited, drama gained, story line complete. This show is so evil.
Saleisha wasn’t even elegible for the show to begin with because she had previous modeling experience, she even appeared on Tyra’s talk show doing runway and on top of that she was on a Wendy’s commercial which was totally against the rules. It’s previous obvious this was rigged for her to win.
Everyone at the time knew this elimation was rigged because, right after the winner was announced, Saleisha's long history with Tyra came out. But just to add, when Saleisha said "Take 17", you can see someone holding up cue cards for a split second at 11:47. So she didn't even memorize the lines, they just didn't make a big deal out of it for her.
Never noticed before. And the card says 1 on it (the cards are numbered in order for the assistant). Good job spotting that. Wowwwww... see ANTM is completely bloody rigged and THEY just create the Drama when there isn't quat between the girls... or for the individual contestant. You can see Tyra's face change to "buisness woman" seeing money signs to make the show "more entertaining"... in turn traumatizing and degrading a human for life.
@SLone3251 Definitely paper. Also note that she's looking in the other direction and not able to say even one of her lines after 17 takes because she can't remember them without looking at the cue cards, that's likely why she's getting upset
There was one contestant whose Instagram I visited and her follower asked her about the show and she said something like "let's not talk about that trainwreck" and she made it pretty far. A lot of them quit too from bullying, but the judges act like they're weak for quitting
Angelea sued after all stars because apparently she won but then the show disqualified her for having been an escort in her past and gave the win to Lisa. Not sure how the lawsuit shook out
Omg right!?! I was smiling because her laugh was so contagious. I wanted to go and buy this super old lip gloss even though I hate lip gloss. Then when jay said snotty. I was super confused like I missed something. Did I miss something?
Tyra literally just used this show as a front for narcissistic abuse. Its no wonder I had such a toxic dating history considering I grew up thinking this show was normal. I'm so glad people on the internet are re-contextualizing my childhood for me, it's helping me connect a lot of dots. These models deserved better, the audience deserved better.
This hurts to watch. It's so not ok that they asked her those personal questions. I mean the poor girl is crying and Tyra just won't stop being rude. And I mean you can see that it's a subject she really doesn't feel comfortable talking about
Finally someone said that, Danielle doesn't represent Covergirl bec of tooth gap while Lara Stone represent L'oreal back then and now Tom Ford Beauty with tooth gap, Georgia May Jagger represent Hourglass cosmetics with tooth gap, and Slick Woods response to TyRANT back in 2020 i think May.
Okay, but having them say what take it was was absolutely a psychological thing. I process dailies for episodic TV (basically process all the footage shot each day and get it prepped for the editing team) and not even the ACs marking each take read anything off the slate like that. The slate has cam roll, scene, take (+ other variable info depending on the show). The AC just says what camera it is (ex. two camera set up, "Two camera, A mark" (claps slate)). Having someone say what take it is is absolute nonsense and would be useless in editing because I don't want to have to scrub through and listen for each take (I also doubt they were even cutting cam/audio between 'takes' and so they weren't even different takes but a series). So, yeah, that whole model saying each take especially having the number go 10+ is absolutely a tool to bring their confidence down
Wow thank you so much for sharing the expertise and experience you've gained through your involvement in the post-production field, clearly because this is specific in nature watching this as a teenager and even now, again, as an adult, I had no idea how incredibly staged and unrealistic this episode is..... your comment is so helpful, I always felt that this seemed like a very counterproductive way to achieve a viable commercial, now with the addition of the information you've contributed it's easier to see how ridiculous this entire filming process is... these poor girls, Tyra used them, even worse had them set up their own demise and humiliation, truly despicable 😠👎
@@lollyann7630 of course! Its one of my favorite things about Jessica’s ANTM videos is that there’s so many people with different expertise that can bring their perspective on what the show did to these poor models. When i was watching this at first i was like ugh that’d be so annoying to edit if they were saying takes instead of slating but then i realized no I’m sure they slated once and then made the girls say that because it would certainly lower my confidence if i had to announce how many tries i had to get it right (as right as anything can be for mr. Jay….)
@@Sailor_Scout_Raccoon I agree. At least Jenah said in her interview with Oliver Twixt that she’s still very good friends with Saleisha. Y’all should go watch her chat with him
@@bs4e Remember how they were asking the girls who they thought had the most and the least potential? Well Jenah said that she thought Chantal had the least potential and that just because she wasn’t spewing rainbows like her and Saleisha that it made her be less of a role model. Apparently the judges took offense to that statement and asked her to apologize TWICE to the girls. The audacity!!!
Jenah also mentioned in their chat with Oliver Twixt that when they said they don't have to spew rainbows all the time, the judges forced them to apologize to Chantal and Saleisha. And it supposedly didn't look right for the camera the first time, so they had to apologize again, and it still didn't end up being used on the show.
it broke my heart to learn that she went through some really hard times after the show. So glad that she's doing great now. It made me hate the show so much. Think about how many young girl they hurt for the sake of rating.
@@wen771127 me too. Jenah seemed like a really lovely person on the show and they really did their best to break her, and she's far from the only one. It's also really sad to think back to when these seasons were live and how I and others didn't see that much issue with it. Like it was normal for people to go through some kind of hazing to get into modelling.
WOW I did not see it like this when I was watching on television. There is so much proof that this show manipulates both the contestants and the audience. I am so glad you do these videos so we can see it in hindsight. So eye-opening and it was all so calculated and planned out, really gross.
I use to watch ANTM all the time growing up. I was too young and naive to understand what was actually going on. I'm so thankful for these videos & that they shed light on how awful the contestants were treated by Trya and her lackeys. They should be ashamed of themselves.... I cannot believe I ever liked Tyra. She was an Adult & she should have known better.
@@aira7115 The way Tyra smiles when she's manipulating the contestants against each other makes me want to deck her in the face. I wish she would be fired from DWTS as she does a horrible job at being a host.
Yes, I was a huge fan when I was younger but I still could detect something off from the show. Like, when they were basically obligating models to do X thing always seemed abusive for me.
I’m so glad you reacted to this. Jenah will always be the winner in my eyes. She was so cool, sarcastic, and nice. Her photos were always amazing. They don’t understand what sarcasm is. They think it’s rudeness when it’s just a style of humor. In what world do models have to be bright sunshine and fairy dust to be likable. If anything that makes them less relatable.
I started acting at the age of 8 and I have never been told to memorize a script while in hair and makeup. Bankable Productions did so many wrong things to these girls.
I feel so bad for Jenah, especially after watching her interview with Oliver TwiXt. They destroyed this precious soul, but I'm happy and proud Jenah was overcome it and continues to blossom and strive.
Mr Jay was seething that they couldn’t make her screw up. His Botox couldn’t even hide the fact he was mad his scheme didn’t work. She was fine, love how they said she did great and was like able and then say the complete opposite hoping she breaks down later. Mr Jay should be sued. Edit: I loved whenever you paused mr Jay was lookin 🥴, so fitting.
mr jay can't act even if his life depended on that. u can always see the disappointment when things didn't go according to his plan. (or happiness when the girls got the bait)
I remember in one of the episodes they scolded her(Jenna) for her hair and not knowing how to style it.....AFTER HER MAKEOVER they gave her. Like ofc she doesn't know how to style it, she's only had it for like 2 days 🤦♀️
This section of the episode really shows that they were really pushing hard for Saleisha and wanted to get rid of Jenah. Look how they brush off Saleisha’s “missteps” and instead try to bring Jenah down for every small thing she does.
Saleisha did model before though, in fact walked the runway for this show before. Tyra wanted Saleisha to win so obviously that it is painful to look back on because she honestly was one of the weakest winners I think was ever on the show and the favoritism is so transparent down to Jay praising her for apparently no reason. Also the cue cards were brought out for her, just never mentioned in one of the shots you can see it in the corner
@@TishaMae considering Mr Jay has thrown Tyra under the bus in the last couple years it’s very doubtful that he would lie about it. Including Bianca who was a contestant said that this rumour was false. Considering her problems with Tyra I doubt she’d try and stick up for her. They don’t have a reason to say this.
jay calling jenah snotty and nearly forcing cue cards right before giving saleisha a break and lifting her spirits is just proof of how many strings producers pull for how the show plays out. obviously we have plenty other proof of that, but here i mean especially with the judges; creative director; whoever else affects the girls' day.
90% of people can't memorize stuff in an hour and do it perfectly. I cant even remember why I walked in the next room. They try to find any thing to bring the girls down.
Jenah looked as if she breezed through her ad, she bit the fruit which emphasises the colour/flavour... having a chilled attitude to working isn't lack of care, its called self control. They tore her down and made it personal - too personal. Crying isn't weak, but its not fair to make her feel like it is, and to tear her down like that. She is trying to be a good person, and having dreams that could make things easier shouldn't be an excuse to slam her like that. Everything about this show is vile. Its all about money for Tyra. Jenah is a beautiful woman with talent, she deserved to win. I hope she went on to achieve her goals without the gaslighting!
The reason Sal got such different treatment in the commercial is because CoverGirl had already chosen her as the winner. They got rid of Jenah because she was probably steeper competition..which Tyra basically said at the elimination speech. That was really messed up that they treated her that way trying to somehow justify the outcome that they had to come up with.
Something to note about therapy is how therapists do break down walls and really dig into the hard to face emotions, but they do it with the time and understanding that they’ll help build you back up from that emotional low. And what I so despise about these judging panels is how they try to act like therapists and force these models to open up about their deep insecurities and struggles, then cut off the questions and “””session””” as soon as the model’s emotionally broken because it makes better tv. It’s disgusting
Yeeeees!!! Also (as a therapist) the digging is done COLLABORATIVELY with PERMISSION. My client always has control - if something is off limits, ok, we’re done talking about it, until/if they’re ready. It’s their life, they’re the ones who have to deal with the after-effects of my prodding - “first do no harm” is the mantra.
I’ve had to shoot professional commercials and stuff, and first off, you definitely get the script days if not a week in advance, the team shooting is usually super supportive, really walks you through what the vibe is, the plan, let you practice a few times before shooting ect.... Also, it’s super common to have cue cards, not a “crutch”. Some of the biggest actors and TV personalities have cue cards for reference just in case. The best actors/tv ppl (like news anchors) are so good at reading cue cards without you noticing while shooting you’d never know. So once again ANTM is just making this absurdly hard for “drama”.
This brings back so much trauma with my narcissistic ex and with other toxic people 🤦🏻♀️ When I used to be naive and open up then get my feelings and my confidence crashed.
I'm convinced that not only do they want these girls to fail, but that Tyra enjoys hurting them and making them cry. That's why she gets mad when they don't and critisizes them for trying not to get emotional.
Right. That is such an unrealistic expectation to push on the girls. Anyone who has done a commercial knows it’s not a five minute quick thing, so their irritation with them made no sense.
I remember this too well, I watched the cycle when it first came out and I was around 16 years old, couple years younger than her. Jenah was my favourite and I hated that she got sent home when I wanted her to win. I do remember being confused about what the hell the judges were on about at that panel because to me Jenah seemed fun and laid back, not like she was making fun of anything, maybe she was my favourite cause I could see myself in her personality wise. Wherever she is I hope she's doing well. It's so weird to look back on this show now 14 years later and actually see how messed up it was, as a teenage girl back then you couldn't see it. All you could see was the glamour and the beauty and wanting to take pretty pictures like the girls on the show. Not the horrible psychological abuse they put them through.
It's interesting how the commercial director said nothing about Jenah's attitude or thought she was making fun of it at the shoot. I am sure a CoverGirl rep would have noticed the same thing, but they didn't. Nobody from CoverGirl had anything bad to say about Jenah...only Tyra, Jay, and the ANTM production team who gave her a villain edit.
Nope, definitely not normal. You get the script AT LEAST a day prior. AND when you audition, you are at least using a side from the actual script, so you are familiar with the script and content before you are even hired. Jesus Christ.
Tyra uses her past bad experiences to hurt the girls the way she was hurt. She admitted it once when she said "this happened to me" after eliminating a contestant before letting them do their last challenge. It was so sadistic
You can see how they tried to make her be "bad" since the beginning' even tho she did great. This just shows that no matter how you'll do, if you are not the one they want, they WILL find something to say about you and eliminate you for.
Exactly. Especially given Jenah RAISED her sisters on her own. That's tough and takes alot of strength. She was only 18 here too I heard and handled everything like a champ. I'd love my sisters to look up to her. She must be her own sisters' hero.
Jenah's commercial had the most real and natural personality. Her commercial was the only one which made me want to purchase the product. Because this is a competition I would say that Chantal's was a bit robotic , I said a bit because all of the women (I hate their use of the term girls, these models are over 18) did an amazing job. If Tyra was a real supportive role "model" she wouldn't attack these women on a personal level. The way she/they attacked Jenah on a personal level was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen on the show. I liked her commercial but I can understand the professional criticism. But I guess if everything on the show was professional, it'd be boring. But this is why I didn't watch it very often. I don't like seeing people ripped to shreds.
I went to school with Jenna, she was a Junior when I graduated and she had a lot of friends. She really was very nice and fun to be around. Our school was riddled with preppy rich kids, jenah wasn't like them, and you kinda had to have tough skin so any "cockiness" they felt was a product of that, but she wasn't a rude person. Her elimination was Bs.
Jenah was snubbed so bad. First put in the bottom 2 with Bianca during the final 4 with the whole "we don't even know who you are" when she was just homesick. Now this. Jenah had a stronger portfolio than Saleisha. Saleisha did have good pictures but not better than Jenah. Jenah deserved to win.
"Bring in... DUN DUN DUN the CUE CARDS!!" Apparently the vilest threat one can utter. And no, I'm not directing that towards the model but MR Jay for making her feel like it's the worst that can happen, to use the one thing that in any other, normal, situation would be used naturally in such a situation. To go full on against Jenah's most insecure and vulnerable spot in front of everyone is just plain nasty. But to tell her that she overcame her insecurity and changed because of THEM, is a horrible attempt at making HER growth and HER strength to be something Tyra and Jay and the others created. They couldn't just send her home, telling her that she did great, that it was she herself that got her this far. They send her home more or less telling her that everything she accomplished she owed to them. To me, Jenah had the most potential and I hope she's doing great and found her way.
My first manager treated me the way Tyra and panel treated Jenah. I was 16 at the time, and Jenah is only 18 here. This is so fucked up. The gaslighting and abuse on this show infuriates me.
I can't believe how much I loved this show when I was younger! I watched it religiously but now as a grown woman I watch these back and cringe so bad because it's awful in so many ways and Tyra really is so full of sh*t it's embarrassing. No doubt this show did damage and caused long term psychological issues for some girls with the stupid mind games and bullying, I feel so bad for them, they were just used and abused and then discarded in the name of entertainment. Those girls deserved better back then and they deserve apologies now today.
OMG ME TOO!!! 10000% this was my favorite show as a teenager, but rewatching all these episodes is extremely hard, I actually feel ashamed that I didn't see the toxicity, bullying, the actual torment and abuse these poor girls suffered through at the time, but I was just naive honestly, I certainly know better now..... what a disgrace, Tyra should be ashamed 👎😠 And I couldn't agree with you more, well said 👌😁❤️❤️
Luckily I had already been a model.. by 17/18...I think the show came out a year or two later. I knew there was something wrong with that industry..I worked in Paris. I was constantly being treated horribly by other "house models." I wish I was allowed to be a ballet dancer (was religious and wasn't allowed. Go figure....) Horrible horrible horrible.. I couldn't have ran in a further direction. I always thought that all of these girls (most were not really anything BUT pedestrian. ) I hated this show and I am concerned that there are so many women saying they idolized the show and women on it..ugh.. but I suppose we were all young once. It's legit a really hard job and it can destroy your life.
Out of all the commercials, Jenah's was the most believable to be a tv ad imo. It seems like something you'd actually see during a commercial break. Tyra decided even before the shoot that she wanted Jenah gone and likely told Jay and the director as much, which is why they were so quick to jump to cue cards and criticize her for being bubbly in the commercial. This was some rigged BS from the get-go.
I remember when Jay accused Nicole from Cycle 13 of being snobby while filming the Covergirl commercial in Hawaii. Snobby? Nicole?? “Bloody Eyeball” Girl?!?! 😆😆😆 Leave that girl alone and let her be her!!! ANTM always be reaching!!
I thought Jenah was endearing and genuine. She fought to thrive in difficult circumstances, I think that's an admirable quality for little girls to look up to. They're such nasty people.
I loved Jenah, for me she was the most relatable. I hate how they think covergirls need to be clones of one another, that doesn't exactly send a good message.
This show is such a reflection for America at this time. Especially how America feels about their stereotypes. When I was young I loved this show. Watching it now I’m sad and shocked.🥺
I remember this whole season and Jenah never once seemed snotty to me. I loved her. As someone with severe anxiety, I always got the feeling she was just anxious whenever she was being quiet or whatever they wanted to call ‘her being cold’.
Jenah actually was on reddit 2 years ago talking about the show. She expressed that she actually struggled with alcohol after the show but now she is better, she has a husband and a family. She also said that she was struggling with her personality back then and that if she could go back and change how she was she would.. I think thats sad because I see nothing wrong with her personality back then.
Tyra: "Jenah, you are the best model in the competition and I, Tryna Banks, did so much work for you to find yourself. Now go pack your bags because you aren't ANTM" Her speech threw me off so hard. She literally said Jenah rivaled some top models and that the other girl who actually had some background in modeling was not doing as well.
It was the episode they’d already decided she should be eliminated, and they went into it pushing a pre-determined narrative to make it appear justified. These girls don’t get paid a penny from the show, because it’s classified as a competition-making it pretty clear how much they’re valued.
I found you through the “id give you a zero” clip and now I’m slowly making my way thru your other videos. I love hearing your insight, commentary, and personal experience.
Man, this was really hard to watch. Reminiscent. I'm struggling with BPD and this entire episode pretty much summarised how people tend to view me and react to me and how they misunderstand me (just like Jenah). And Jenah's insecurities hit home as well. And then the judges bullying her, just like when I was bullied in elementary school. Didn't want to relive that, but oh, well. I feel very sorry for Jenah. She's the realest, most likeable and smartest girl out of these three (or maybe all girls in the cycle), but the stupid panel just had to bash on her. Her commercial was the best one - it was pleasant to watch, gripping and she was cute (that giggle at the end, ah, my heart!). She did an amazing job just like she always did at photoshoots. She seems like a strong, sweet and cool person, I would love to hang out with her, and if I had a younger sister, I'd want her to look up to Jenah. I'm sad Tyra and the rest made her doubt herself. It was awful and everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves and apologise to Jenah. I hope she is doing well these days and has friends who understand her and treat her well. ANTM proved to be emotionally and mentally abusive yet again. How was this ever legal?
I remember when I first watched this that I didn’t understand why they didn’t talk about cue cards for Saleisha. Since this season had plenty of controversy particularly about the winner, now watching it doesn’t surprise me. Jenah was an incredible model despite what production threw at her. This season was so full of talent and it’s not fair how only the winner is boosted up.
A decade later and i still think Jenah is the most unfairly treated Model ever on Top Model (alongside Lauren Brie Cycle 11, Dominique Cycle 17 and Nicole Cycle 3)
I was asked to model 20 years ago and I said no, why?!. Because I’ve had a tough life and suffer with bipolar and other mental health issues and there isn’t anything that would of made me say yes because I know that it would of been extremely detrimental to me. I think it’s absolutely atrocious what they put these young ladies through, the comments are especially vile. I’ve actually stopped watching it now because I feel so pissed off for a lot of the vulnerable models.
Very wise of you!! I'm sure you are gorgeous inside and out and beauty will open doors for you indirectly without having to traumatize yourself by modeling. Great comment.
Honestly Jenah was probably the most real. She’s been through some stuff and doesn’t feel the need to change her personality to get further in life. And this is viewed as a BAD THING? Seriously, more girls should look up to her
I remember really liking Jenah as a kid, I related to her bc she wasn’t always giddy and smiley because I had moments like that too. I was invested in her journey and was rooting for her, so watching everyone tear her down at every corner ripped me to shreds. I remember angry crying when she was eliminated and refusing to watch the finale.
Personally I think the worst CG commercial was the way they treated Laura about the cue cards. She has Dyslexia. That is a disability. They literally penalized a neurodiverse woman for being neurodiverse. They KNEW she was neurodiverse, they KNEW she had Dyslexia, and yet they still harassed her over the ways that her neurodiversity affected the task at hand. They treated her like it was her fault that she has Dyslexia. Let me be clear that it is NOT. Neurotypical contestants can barely do these challenges, so it was absolutely unnecessary to treat Laura like garbage when her brain literally processes the information differently. They should have accommodated her needs. My husband has Dyslexia. Dyslexic people often learn new info better by auditory means. Reading and memorizing print get him flustered. But he can memorize an entire song after hearing it just 2 or 3 times. How hard would it have been to have a production assistant just sit and read the lines to Laura over and over while she was having hair and makeup done? This show is nasty to people. They pick at anything, even if it's wildly ableist. It's just rude. Thanks for attending my TED talk 🤣
I just rewatched McKey's live with Oliver and she said Tyra wasn't even there for her finale photoshoot..they photoshopped some of the pictures Tyra took with Jaslene
The girl who won was from Tyra's model training program that she launched during the show. She was the first person from that to be featured on the show and was pretty much destined to win this no matter what. They already knew the outcome they wanted and just need some excuse, real or otherwise to exploit in order to justify getting rid of the other girls. I've seen people who were on this season mention how it was pretty much known that she was the front runner to win early on. Not to take away from her talent, but it was pretty clear to me that she was given a bit more of an advantage even while watching this when it originally aired. I really am just so disgusted whenever i see clips of this show. The stuff that actually occurs and how the models are treated is bad enough of course. But the grotesque way Tyra Banks has tried to gaslight the world by pretending she wants for models to be treated better, or to see more diversity withing fashion modeling and how models need to support each other and all of that while producing a show that goes against all of that and gleefully replicates the abuse and mistreatment models have to deal with is just maddening. A whole new level of gross
Tyra: *attacks Jenah’s personality, modeling ability, her past, who she is in general*
Tyra: “why do you feel like you need to put up barriers?”
Also Tyra puts Chantal and Saleisha against her, so Jennah doesn't even feels safe with her "friends". I would have put up barriers too if I was her.
Also barriers are not the same as boundaries which are healthy and you need for sustainable relationships, even work-related ones.

🙌🏻
Yup. Did some commercials when I was younger and the experience is pretty much the same:
And let's be real, I'm sure that in the behind the scenes of this show, they have multiple short takes when judges, Mr. Jay, or guests are explaining things. So I'm sure that the girls even knew, or at least suspected, that this was not how commercial production shoots are supposed to work.
Exactly! This has never been my experience and my heart goes out to her. 🙏🏽
It's like they couldn't stand her being happy. They were disgusted. Now what does it say about them huh
They just don’t like her so everything is a problem smh
I think it was a fortune cookie but yes
@@solkun8316 They're complete narcissists.
@@itscjhey and her and chantal were the closest in the house too i couldnt believe she said that
It does still bother me that Chantal said she wouldn't want her sisters to look up to Jenna. Even for a girl who didn't raise her younger siblings, that's hurtful. Also not that relevant to modeling. I hope she apologized.
I think this speaks to the high-pressure situation they kept the girls in, it sounds like she felt bad immediately after she said it.
@@Echo-mg5em Chantal has said she felt that way at the time but does feel bad for saying that. They were prompted to say it but I do feel like she was quite harsh.

This. This is heartbreaking
To be fair, once the judges started prompting Jenah to spill her life story, both girls looked like they regretted saying what they did? Idk. Hard to tell with TV.
IMO, Jenah was the clear winner of this cycle. Her elimination, and the way she was treated still infuriates me to this day.
What we have to remember is that they did her a kindness by letting her go this show was so damaging every minute they were on it. And if you believe in spiritual things they were being used for their energy
YESSS!!!

Read the rumors comments Oliver twinx about interview with Chantal.
I totally relate to what Jenna was saying about people thinking in you are snobby cause you aren’t fake bubbly all the time.
That rumor is already disproved
this one is untrue, saleisha was not tyra’s pick, it’s been proven
@@EmpressChu rumors are near impossible to dispell....
@@monicacreator3168 people who worked on the show actually confirmed it… Tyra wanted Chanel, covergirl may have picked otherwise though
The show is edited!
@@letsnoraebang b.s. Jay was not a victim at all. During most of Oliver Twist chats w the models, they describe how he treated them badly!

He was also the host of Canada's next top model, and he was MUCH worse. It made me not like him at all anymore.
Jenna's commercial was the best by far. It seemed the most professional and also the most flawless and easygoing and likeble.

They did her dirrrrty 😢
I still feel bad for Jenah. She had the most potential and she clearly was the best, yet they did everything just to tear her down.
Read comments of Oliver Twinx with interviewing Chantal.
This season was rigormortis
As someone with a lot of protection barriers, a lot of resentment toward the past and toward family, this is disgusting. Those barriers are part of who we are. All we are in life are our experiences and how we deal with them. By forcing her to view her own self and her situation this way like she's the bad guy for having a defense mechanism, Tyra TOOK something from Jenah. She didn't "find her real self", she brought up a traumatic part of her history and broke her down. It's horrible.
For me I usually put a lot of hidding with musk (not real one)
Thats so sad and just so wrong man…, so many girls deserve apologies from Tyra.
😔✔️
They asked her why she have an armor. Well, they kept attacking her character over and over again so, of course she’ll get defensive. They catered this cycle for Saleisha to win and they have to grab a reason to eliminate the other girls. At this stage, it was easier to attack and eliminate Jenah on the personality level since she have the better portfolio out of the three.
100% agree 😩
Personality does matter in this show though and cover girl was part of the prize so maybe cover girl liked the other two girls better? Maybe if it was pure modeling she would win but they wanted someone who fit the cover girl brand too. When Brittany won in cycle 16 cover girl had evolved and it was no longer all about the bubbly cutesy girl. Brittany was edgy and she still embodied cover girl because the standards had changed
@@amacookies89 how the standard changed? 🤔
And what is even that imaginary 'armour'. Did she have to just take all the insults and gaslighting. They wanted an easy target.
Exactly... it's completely (in your face) obvious. Lolol ANTM Production Team think we are dumb. 😂
I think there was a season when Tyra asked that "who has the most potential" question and got mad because a majority of the girls said one or more of other girls had more potential than themselves and no one deserved to go home. Then Tyra did this whole speech about how they should've said themselves as best and someone as worse because they're in a competition
THIS 👆👆👆👆 I remember this!!

@@Nessa_0315 I really wish I could remember. I'm fairly certain it was a season before Jenah. Might've been in the season with Dani, Joanie, and Jade which I believe is season 6. @@genaervin3484 I think it was season 8, the predecesor to this one, it was at panel during the top 4 evaluation, not sure if I’m right though.
It was Cycle 4.
Damn. What they did here is abusive. They were crafting a narrative around her just to get rid of her.
It was a blatant sabotage. Came out of nowhere.
Well I’m glad they did they usually belittle the black girls over the white ones
@@millymilly8264 That's BS, it should be an equal competition, Saleshia was not the best of this cycle so she shouldn't have won. Period
This is the ad that runs"
Guess they didn't care for it too much since they gave the girls what' a hour to learn and act everything perfect?
(also, what's your stand on models being judged on acting skills?)
You raise a fair point! They're models... Not actors... ??? I don't think it is fair towards them at all
I feel it’s fair at THIS point in the competition, considering the winner was supposed to be a spokesperson for Covergirl.

A LOT of people weren't fans of Saleisha because she looked too commercial and they felt like Tyra basically rigged the cycle so Saleisha would win.
She did give her an absolutely awful hair makeover.
She knew her from a Tyra camp
Saleisha wasn’t even elegible for the show to begin with because she had previous modeling experience, she even appeared on Tyra’s talk show doing runway and on top of that she was on a Wendy’s commercial which was totally against the rules. It’s previous obvious this was rigged for her to win.

I'm so thankful for these videos & that they shed light on how awful the contestants were treated by Trya and her lackeys. They should be ashamed of themselves.... I cannot believe I ever liked Tyra. She was an Adult & she should have known better.
Same.
@@aira7115 The way Tyra smiles when she's manipulating the contestants against each other makes me want to deck her in the face. I wish she would be fired from DWTS as she does a horrible job at being a host.
@@ashg2895 I feel so guilty for liking the show before😔
Yes, I was a huge fan when I was younger but I still could detect something off from the show.
"his botox couldn't even hide the fact he was mad"
legendary comment right here. I'm howling 🤣
This rumour has been disproven that Saliesha was not tyra’s pick for the winner. Can we stop spreading this rumour around
@@EmpressChu Of course they would say that
@@TishaMae considering Mr Jay has thrown Tyra under the bus in the last couple years it’s very doubtful that he would lie about it. Including Bianca who was a contestant said that this rumour was false. Considering her problems with Tyra I doubt she’d try and stick up for her. They don’t have a reason to say this.
@@TishaMae literally
Let's be honest, if Saleisha really was the favorite, why did Tyra give her the Dora haircut?
jay calling jenah snotty and nearly forcing cue cards right before giving saleisha a break and lifting her spirits is just proof of how many strings producers pull for how the show plays out. obviously we have plenty other proof of that, but here i mean especially with the judges; creative director; whoever else affects the girls' day.
"No girl, you just exploited her feelings for television" point blank. It was hard to watch. What a way to send her off.
My gosh, poor girl doesn't realize cue cards are a normal fact of life in video. And they know it and use it against her. Yeesh! 🤦🏼♀️
You mean Tyra. 😏
I met Jaslene a few years ago at a club downtown Chicago. She was so nice! Got a chance to talk to her for a little bit and even got a photo with her
Something to note about therapy is how therapists do break down walls and really dig into the hard to face emotions, but they do it with the time and understanding that they’ll help build you back up from that emotional low.
Tyra: I’d rather see a girl crying in front of me… because it’s good for ratings
Couldn’t have said it better myself
I’ve had to shoot professional commercials and stuff, and first off, you definitely get the script days if not a week in advance, the team shooting is usually super supportive, really walks you through what the vibe is, the plan, let you practice a few times before shooting ect.... Also, it’s super common to have cue cards, not a “crutch”. Some of the biggest actors and TV personalities have cue cards for reference just in case. The best actors/tv ppl (like news anchors) are so good at reading cue cards without you noticing while shooting you’d never know. So once again ANTM is just making this absurdly hard for “drama”.
I was thinking while I watched this, "Don't famous people use cue cards all the time?"
This brings back so much trauma with my narcissistic ex and with other toxic people 🤦🏻♀️ When I used to be naive and open up then get my feelings and my confidence crashed.
Same
This makes me so mad. Jenah was so good. And was such a great model. No matter who won, what they did to her was terrible.
I'm convinced that not only do they want these girls to fail, but that Tyra enjoys hurting them and making them cry. That's why she gets mad when they don't and critisizes them for trying not to get emotional.
"oh, you can't do everything perfect on the fist take? Disappointed. How dare you. Can't you do your job right? This is what models do"
This just shows that no matter how you'll do, if you are not the one they want, they WILL find something to say about you and eliminate you for.
production: *beats models down until there's nothing left*
also production: where's your personality
Gah!!! That's so evil.
If Chantal was Jenah’s friend it surprises me a lot that she said she didn’t want her sisters looking up to her. That sounded very hurtful and mean
Exactly. Especially given Jenah RAISED her sisters on her own. That's tough and takes alot of strength. She was only 18 here too I heard and handled everything like a champ. I'd love my sisters to look up to her. She must be her own sisters' hero.
Tyra always made contestants open up about deeply vulnerable things/trauma and it is 100% manipulation and exploitation. Truly so sick
This series should be called "conspiracy theories with Jess" 😂 I love it!
Why on Earth would they try to diagnose her? Those questions were way too personal. I mean I know why, for the views. But still...
I agree the judges always created drama. They wanted the girls to hate each other
I went to school with Jenna, she was a Junior when I graduated and she had a lot of friends.
DUN DUN DUN the CUE CARDS!!"
Apparently the vilest threat one can utter.
Go figure....)
Horrible horrible horrible.. I couldn't have ran in a further direction. I always thought that all of these girls (most were not really anything BUT pedestrian. ) I hated this show and I am concerned that there are so many women saying they idolized the show and women on it..ugh.. but I suppose we were all young once.
It's legit a really hard job and it can destroy your life.
they were trying soooo hard to eliminate jenah
I was so upset and Jenah was sent home. She was so relatable charismatic and beautiful. I didn’t care who “won” after that
Out of all the commercials, Jenah's was the most believable to be a tv ad imo.
Jay wanted laura to win, lol
@@muhammadzikri8492 irritated me to no end. Nicole’s pics were 🔥🔥🔥
It's amazing that Tyra and the producers never cared about the massive amount of mental distress they cause to several girls in this show
I thought Jenah was endearing and genuine. She fought to thrive in difficult circumstances, I think that's an admirable quality for little girls to look up to. They're such nasty people.
I loved Jenah, for me she was the most relatable. I hate how they think covergirls need to be clones of one another, that doesn't exactly send a good message.
Check out New Zealand's next top model. The difference in how they treat the models is staggering. NZNTM is much more encouraging
I believe it. America is the rudest country ever.
And asia next top model treated the models great
This show is such a reflection for America at this time.
Look at Tyra's eyes when she's asking Jenna those questions. She is a maniac!
Tyra: "Jenah, you are the best model in the competition and I, Tryna Banks, did so much work for you to find yourself. Now go pack your bags because you aren't ANTM"
Her speech threw me off so hard. She literally said Jenah rivaled some top models and that the other girl who actually had some background in modeling was not doing as well.
I know it's so bizarre
The title of the episode should just be “woman should just smile.”
Tyra said “I can’t think of anything negative to say about the girls, let me get some ideas”
Jenah was just 18!! Wtf, how on earth can these nasty shows get away with this crap. Poor girl, I hope she’s living her best life now.
As an actress, Imo Jenahs performance was the best for the commercial. It was fun, she seemed the most natural and I live her head movement.
15:42 The "Yes. we got her!" look
I just rewatched McKey's live with Oliver and she said Tyra wasn't even there for her finale photoshoot..they photoshopped some of the pictures Tyra took with Jaslene
Cue cards. You know the next step after cue cards is going home, right?
JENAH: EASY BREEZY BEAUTIFUL COVER GIRL SPRITZER SPRAYER SIPPERS!!!
Photographer: BRILLIANT!!
Jay: 👿👿👿
Jay was just seething that Jenah nailed it without the cue cards so he had to rip on her then and there 😂💀
The girl who won was from Tyra's model training program that she launched during the show.
