@@michaelschneider-nah they were great, it was a German sentiment and stubbornness about not doing anything other than driving while driving. They believed that when driving a car, that’s all one should be doing, it was really stupid but that’s the truth.
The Germans were absolutely opposed to adding a cup holder to any (non limousine) car. The prevailing mindset in Europe was (and still is) when you drive, you drive. When you eat / drink, you eat / drink. (Side note, in many parts of Europe “gas station food” is pretty AMAZING and is often served on an actual dish, with real cutlery and a coffee cup like you would get in a restaurant). After a long stand off between marketing and engineering, the engineers at Mercedes agreed to add a cup holder to satisfy the North American market. (The w210 was the first car to have a cup holder to come stock) For these reasons the engineers intentionally over engineered this specific cup holder to piss everyone off. This makes me love the car (and respect German Engineers) even more! 😂
Mine broke. lol And I personally wouldn’t use it unless the water bottle cap is tightly sealed or any liquid for that matter because once liquid spills in that area or transmission…oh boy! lol
The Germans are clear that you shouldn’t eat, drink or listen to music while you drive. The worst part about that car is they are incredible rust buckets if you aren’t in California.
not only does the cupholder suck, but it's diabolically engineered to spill your drink directly into the shifter which instantly kills it. no drink without a cap gets into my 210!
I also have the w210 but a europe version. And thats something i could say really sucks on the model. At least you have the over engineered one, the one i have there's a normal compartment so i have nowhere to put bottles or cups. It really sucks. I'm planning to get the w211 if i get money I'm hopping it has better cupholders.
can you make a video of how to put an aux with the original radio? i have a clk(208) 55 and i've searched if its possible and All i get is chineese men trying to sell me a FM transmitter.
If it’s the factory navigation radio I have a video on how to. If it’s the single din then you will have to send your radio to Becker for them to add it.
The Mercedes engineers argument for not pursuing interior cupholders is legendary. 1994 C124 Coupe.
P.S., The MB interior engineer's SUCK; cup holder.

I own a W209, and the cupholders actually do a fantastic job
The european models had no cupholders at all, besides those in wagons rear armrest.
Hey your car looks sick. I’m currently restoring my dad’s e430 and yours just got me motivated to finish
Honestly its quirky and makes me like the car even more haha

Yeah they’re pretty useless. When I got my car the cup holders were broken. Luckily they were still available back then and I replaced it

I get it the food point, but why no music?
Water based paint due to green climate environment BS. Thanks lefties

You just have to be takumi fujiwara
Mercedes engineers clearly didn't take into account Americans desire to pound multiple Big Gulps while they're driving.
Bro, complaining about the w210 cupholder, try the w201 3mm deep shallow dishes in the glove box lol. They're essentially counter sunk coasters lol
There is actualy two cup in the glovebox door but i guess tose are for Champagne bottles

The w211 cupholder is also just as bad as w210
I know you know that the w124 has cupholders in the glovebox useless but still there
W210s have the glove box "cup holders" too 😂. If one's depressed and feels miserable and useless, let em look at the mercedes glove box cupholders😅
In USA the glove box is replaced with a passenger airbag so we don’t even have those.
Same thing for w211
