Surely they’re cancelled or late because the government can’t organise the rail industry and you think the workforce should pay for this ? Let me tell you sunshine you think it’s inconvenient that trains are late well I’m the one finishing work late we also queue up trying to go on the depot because we don’t have enough infrastructure for the amount of trains and services so nearly every late shift were late off duty , the railways are an absolute mess , we haven’t had a pay rise for nearly 6 years !!!! And you want to hold us responsible for the mess the very people that constantly told us we’re worthless employees caused , imagine you’re own workplace becoming so toxic that the government , the public and the managers blame the staff for everything that’s gone wrong when the workforce has absolutely no say in any of it , we just drive the trains it’s upto others who do their job very badly to organise the railway

Hahaha as a train driver for many years and someone fairly centrist is can tell you that’s not what happens lol firstly managers don’t just come for a word because they’re incredibly lazy and rather egotistical they call you to their office and that’s usually a 5-10 minute trek there and the same back , by the time you’ve finished all of you’re pnb gone and it’s their rule you have you’re 30mins pnb as you could be driving solidly for the next 5hrs 10 mins , without any break ! There’s no option to pull over or goto a services like you’re on the motorway , the passengers would be very angry if you need a toilet break and stop the train , also remember we generally work very unsociable hours , I started at 0325 and 0345 last week , and we also drink copious amounts of tea in our short breaks as does any British worker , so if you’re critical of our break times please bear in mind when you next do a 4or 5 hour motorway drive that we do these every work day on our trains sometimes twice a day with a break inbetween we can start at 0300 onwards and work a 10hr intensive shift ! Plus we’re not earning this magical figure banded about the press , so maybe go and attack the politicians they’re the real shirkers

The right to start your break if you get spoken to by a manger is getting totally taken out of all proportion. The agreement is that if a manager wants to speak to you about work related issues or wanting a report of an incident that has happened urgently etc, you can start your break again. This is due to safety that a driver has had there full allocated time to eat and rest before being responsible for people’s lives and multi million pound equipment,It has nothing to do with a manager just saying “Hello” and just asking are you having a good day etc.The microwave issue I’ve never heard of. Certainly not common practice for any train drivers I know of and work with. Unfortunately as we have seen to recently online posts give false information.

You need to check what you are quoting. Train drivers have to have allocated brakes just as lorry drivers. If a manager wants to speak to a driver on work related issues, it will interpret that legally required Physical Needs Break, before they go back to driving hundreds of people around the country at speeds up to 125mph.

I work in a supermarket...my break starts when I sit down. Like everyone else.disturbed breaks have happened a few times when I've had to let a wagon in at the back door. I just restart my break later on and managers are fine with it. With regards to managers speaking to us on breaks we're quite a good working team so it ain't a problem. There's boundries of course ie not giving orders out in canteen etc It's all about a good working environment...I'm only on £12 per hour and honestly for what I do it's a piece of pi55. 21k a year and I'm pretty happy in my work...I get the impression some on 50k a year just hate their lives.

The rail drivers union has always ruled the drivers with a rod of iron. Their is no leeway and no allowance for modernity. I am a qualified person held a responsible job am a railway enthusiast. Had i known the level of pay compared to my semi itinerant job i would have been far better off. For the job a driver does they are overpaid. I could do a drivers job with training but question whether a driver could have completed my training.

You have only just scraped the surface of these practices. An extra 10 minutes walking time for your coffee break to get from your train to the cafeteria and back despite the fact that the cafeteria is 3 yards from the train, waiting time payment for you to wait in line to get your wages from the office in cash despite the fact that all employees are now paid by BACS, 15 mins start up time for the train so you have time to stoke up the fire in the engine despite the fact that all trains are diesel and all you need to do is turn a key, and so it goes on aand all these things require an extran payment into your salary. These people are paid about £70,000 plus overtime, plus extra payments for this that and the other for a 4 day week. Many could be into 6 figure sums for what. To press a button for an hour or two, have a lengthy break and do it again. Inflation will rocket again because of these selfish people but they will be all right won't they. You see, they will all be out on strike again this time next year ready to blackmail the Govt into giving them a 20% pay rise again and the Govt. will give in.

Hi, I was in unions all my life in Canada. What you are talking about is probably favoritism and nepotism. This is when obvious incompetents get into the management positions. If a union can be totally unreasonable it is because management does not know how to rectify core issues. I think a lot of favoritism is on both sides and I would not doubt that a lot of management and union workers are friends. If not directly related. In my opinion the whole management team should be dismissed. Then people who know how to run a company get put in charge. I also think opportunities to fire employees that deserve it are not taken.

I found a good starter job and worked my way up. A healthy employer/employee relationship is one of give and take. To have a 3rd party come in and demolish one side is pathetic and deliberate. The Labour Party is sending out a message to young people. You don't have to work hard and you are always right. It has never worked before, so it's not going to work now. It will lead to another critical financial collapse, worse than any we have seen before. Once again the unemployment rate will push the country into chaos.
