I find your charm and down-to-earth way of explaining the complexities of app development is just as well suited to deeper, more meaningful topics such as this one. I'd LOVE to see more content in this vein from you. Plus, you have the creds to talk for hours on end, and I'd just suck it all up no problem.

I really enjoyed this video. For the gouvernance topic i wish the video would take longer. Governance is crucial, and the "No" answer from IT is very common. I have 2 questions related to governance of the Power Platform
    1. Strategy around ALM rights. It is best practice that app makers do not have admin/env rights in production environment. That means that for every import in production you are dependent to IT disponibility. What is the best approach you recommend (no dataverse thefore no possibility to use the recent pipelines).
    2. Who should manage the power platform? A power platform expert from business side, an it professional, archtecture team? A team with a mix of these people?
    Thank you Sean
P.S I also suppported France for the world cup. You rock ;)

Thanks. Based on the positive comments to this point I have some other governance ideas for the new year. :) I think you have some solid questions above to make sure that get covered.

There is a real history in that "Answer NO" to get started". I remember back in 1988 our IT manager always started the meeting with... "let's say NO, just for the fun" :-)

Same in 97 at my first IT job. The amount of power was too much.

To answer your closing question, as a WFH person, I find it easier to consume this information via TH-cam. I used to spend almost two hours a day on a train where I often listened to podcasts, but without that "downtime", watching/listening through a browser is much more convenient. So, I'm not saying you should cross-post every podcast episode you're on in your channel, but maybe a short where you summarize what's covered so we can prioritize our viewing/listening queue?

So true about the platform not doing what you cannot do today. That is something you should coin Shane very powerful words. It’s about improvement. ❤

I've been watching your videos for a couple years now, always love the standard format and great content you produce. I liked the podcast/discussion piece as well; would probably watch more of those as well, especially the data source SQL thing you mentioned (then I realized this video was published 8 months ago) :P
Keep up the great work, Shane! Thanks

Shane, this type of information is so critical to non IT citizen developers too. We often need to understand or speak this language too to help steer IT to empower makers the right way.

I enjoyed it. There are topics that just don't need a video tutorial and are better in an interview format. Plus, it's easier to share this format to others that don't need to see the designer tools or how the sausage is made.

Hi Shane, i guess it depends on the topic and how it benefits the listener - Governance are not fun to talk, but extremely relevant and also very educating for the brain of how to use it. Yeah, some videos with a bit fluffiness in cant damage. Enjoyed it very much. :)

This was really nice video , i would love to see more deep dive videos on this pp governance and security topic. This topic is least discussed and even MS is not doing great job putting content on this ... If possible try to bring more folks experiences after working with, challenges they saw and how it was tacked ..we would prefer video formats where you can show things on screen if required..

This was just in time because I was starting to wonder why I couldn't get my "Trigger flow when item is selected" to work when it was in a sandbox environment and only seemed to work when it's in the Default.

Interesting topic, I work for a very large company... I've been the guy taking that path of least resistance many a time before! Thankfully we seem to be warming up to the premium connectors currently, fingers crossed!

At the same time, one of my most popular flows tells the team when my geolocation is about 20mins from the office (ifttt Gmail - > work email - > create chat) so they can finish their current crap coffee for me to turn up and make the good stuff... I'd love to see the look on the IT guy working that out.

Hey Shane - yes this is relevant for any maker working at a company where there's a strong IT department. IT and citdevs like me talk a different language and the reference to NO is so applicable. Your comment about following the path of least resistance is also spot on. It's an interesting balance - lots to learn on this topic. As you're speaking with many different companies I'd love to know more about the best practices - what you've seen that works and doesn't. In fact I'd love to have a specific example. Why don't you interview some company who you think has found the right balance with governance and explain what they did, the processes, the communication method, the monitoring, the "nurturing", the training/certification for makers etc...

  • @cvkealey

In the EDU world (or at least the tenant I work in), governance is a 4-letter word.

The biggest question we have from our Security team is why can't we block user's access as Makers in the Default environment. Because enabling PowerApps/Power Automate feature for the whole organization, basically would mean everyone can be a flow/app maker in the default environment.
I know, we can come up with a less permissive DLP and apply it to the default environment. But it still seems like a big flaw if we can switch off the makers access and leave users access for the end users in the default environment.

    • @johnbrennan8442
      @johnbrennan8442 ปีที่แล้ว

Because many things created on the power platform automatically go to the default for example customisation of SP forms therefore too many things will be taken away it’s an MS thing for wider advertising I suppose
