    Canada should of had pipelines built out to both coasts for international shipping. But we dropped the ball...and succumbed to the environmentalists.

      @ yeah, what’s ANOTHER 20 billion in overspent construction costs to Canadians… the corporation pulled out because they couldn’t extract enough profit in a few decades AKA non-viable.
      Even now, the feds can’t sell Trans Mountain. No one wants it, even though it’s functioning at 70% of new capacity. Our oil projects are not worth enough. THAT’S the problem.
      Short of NATIONALIZING our oil, we don’t have viable ways to build big hairy pipeline projects that span 2-3000 km.
      Hell, people don’t want to do that in the states either! It’s not just us, bro. There’s almost no Cap X left in major oil projects.

    Canada should sell less oil to the US. If we sold less, we'd balance trade.
    Canada should also drill more and export more, just to Asia and Europe. Which requires infrastructure. Which requires a regulatory environment friendly to business. Which we haven't had in 10 years... and which we'll never have in Quebec. LNG terminals, pipelines, rail, Canada needs all of this from it's center to it's coasts, so that it is not beholden to America. Canada also needs internal free trade.

    Quit dealing, strictly with USA. We need more pipelines, to send oil and gas to the east and west coast. We need more interprovincial free trade. We have all the provinces getting together, because of Trump. Why not use this time to talk about free trade with each other.

  • @zli7616

    The only thing that USA wants from us is oil. Everything else is easily replaceable. So in order to strike a deal and balance out trade, the plan is to ship less of what they really want. Great plan.😂 Americans do not want our dairy but because of Quebec interest, we will continues pushing dairy.

    • @Heisenberg-1967
      @Heisenberg-1967 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Not sure why Americans make such a big deal about dairy. We each can produce our own domestic needs without needing to trade. We can’t do that with most resources or with large industry like cars.

      How? He literally said he want tarrifs. And if 25% tarrifs don't happen he still has said he wants universal 10% tarrifs on everything coming into the us. Not to mention he wants an increase in us domestic oil production. Meaning less need for oil from Canada. Meaning those talks of "don't put the 25%" tarrifs isn't a good strategy for the long term.

    The price of WCS is dependent on supply and demand. But that doesn’t stop Canada from refusing to sell below a certain price (perhaps mandated to ensure companies work together ). That would cause a supply shock driving up the cost of imports from other sources. Then WCS doesn’t look so expensive any more, at least in the short term. Canadian exports would probably be reduced but refineries would need the oil and would pay the tariffs and pass on costs . That would maximize pain to the US consumer and importantly it would highlight that tariffs are the cause and not Canada putting on export taxes.
    Not doing this allows Trump to steal Canadian profits which is the reason he likes tariffs so much.

      I don't think most so called albertians understand. The land a resources are not just yours. There are treaties in place with 44 separate first nations people in which 187487,143 km2 , are covered in bc northwest territories alberta (basially all of alberta) and parts of saskatchewan which goverence and resource sharing and shared usage are set in the treaty.. treaties 6,7,8. Since 1899 . If you separate from canada the crown treaty is void. Meaning the land goes back to the first nations. The indians accepted the treaty in which they surrendered aboriginal land title and traditional territories , no treaty no deal. Be stuck in courts for a long time.

    I think Canada’s response should be asymmetrical. Instead of imposing counter-tariffs, Canada can first cancel copyright laws with respect to US products. For example, make Netflix completely free for Canadians. US-Patented drugs can be synthesized in Canada without paying US patent owners. Second, Canada can start setting up Chinese military bases near the US border. A big Chinese naval base in Yarmouth or Victoria will cool the hot heads of tariff lovers.
