I think I would describe Daryl Hall's voice as "soulfully mellow", "jazzy-smooth", or "tempered funk", it depends on the nature of the song arrangement that he is singing over. Whatever a particular track requires of his voice, Hall has a knack for supplying exactly what the song needs to take it to that next level in the stratosphere. He and his bandmates were a perfect fit, that's why their music was always so darn good! :)

Daryl Hall wrote this song for their 11th studio album H20 In 1983. The beautiful drum beat, saxophone, along with synthesizer and blended harmonies make for a sure hit.

"Everytime You Go Away", with powerful lead vocals by Hall, who wrote it. British singer Paul Young had a Billboard Number 1 hit with a cover of the song in 1985. Though the Hall and Oates original (recorded in a Memphis-soul style) was never released as a single, it remains a fan favorite on the duo's greatest hits albums, and was featured on their Apollo Theater album in 1985, and is frequently featured in their live set to this day.

One of the sexiest songs of the 80s. Some memories right there. And, yes, I did have Daryl Hall's haircut -- which makes me smile... and laugh! The things you could do with mousse back then!

Hall is one of the greatest lyricist of the 20th century. There is a hidden quality to his writing. Note that the words he uses, the end and beginning syllables slide together. You don't need to rearrange your lips to get to the next sound: "One on One I wanna" and "I'll pay the devil to replace her, she's gone, she's gone" and countless other combinations smoothly transition the lips and tongue from word to word. Pure poetry and genius from a syllabic point of view..

There is a 12inch single extended mix of this, that makes the song even better, the drum machine has a lot more bass groove and the mix allows the song more space to breathe

I have that version and you're absolutely right about the drum and bass groove - great call! Truthfully, H20 is a criminally underrated album of theirs, especially some of the non-hits like "Guessing Games" and "At Tension."

This band is EXCELLENT. You just don't get how exceptionally talented every single band member is, especially Daryl Hall. The best way to describe his voice is simply this... the perfect blue-eyed soul voice just like you said, Amber. There are so many great blue-eyed soul singers, but my top 3 are: 1)Daryl Hall 2) Michael McDonald and 3) Michael Bolton.

So many great songs. One of their most fun tune is Maneater which my brother recorded for late wife and I for our engagement party back in the 1980’s.
