Forreal, i've said it before but this stuff helps like you wouldn't believe to a brand-spanking new FFXI player. I've been following your advice about the early money-making and you've made an immediate impact on my ability to accomplish things and make this game feel even more fulfilling then before, so thank you once more.
Hey cool video! one of the best uses for digging is to go after items in zones that are for lower level crafting recipes. Some of these items are near worthless but can get you several crafting levels early on. For example, seashells, fish scales, bone chips and beetle shells should get you to 20 bonecraft. Beastcoins, copper, zinc, iron ores can get you to 31 smithing. Once you get the crafting skill up there, stack and sell the mats for other crafters. Certain zones work for certain crafts...cloth in saruta; wood working in la theine & jugner; gold & smithing in gusta, altepa, meriphataud..bone in altepa, tahrongi, valkurm, bubu, meriphataud...there are more linkages. Back in the day i used to avoid the 3 jueno zones bc they were always dug up, but they are worthwhile too. Target zone with weather to keep crystal supply up and someone can get most all crafts to ~40ish over time with just the stuff you dig. Some recipes get more complex after that but there are still times where a couple days of digging will let you power thru several crafting levels. On retail I have had 2x A20 digging characters for 15 years or so. I dont dig as much as I should, inventory issues, time...etc. But it is a very worthwhile hobby to take up.
You sir are now a legend in my eyes, as well as you're viewers that helped lead me to this knowledge. After 20 years Chocobo Digging is by far one of my least explored game features. But..... I never knew about Red "FREAKING" Jars! For the low cost of about 13k for boots, gloves, greens, and the ride. I grabbed just now 3 Red Jars.... That alone might be the most useful information you have passed onto us! and I thank you most sincerely.
I dig when i run to jueno, i dig when i run to the dunes, looking for party, or when doing a supply run. I'm level 3 now and I'm sure i haven't made money off of it yet but its not too far off. Sometimes you go out and score big time, and sometimes you get garbage. As long as i come close to playing for all the greens when I'm out digging im cool with that for now. So far I have found 3 red jars. These alone make a run worth it in my opinion. Only been playing horizon for a week now.
Maxed out dig in retail started during rotz capped during cop. Is it sooooo lucrative once you get capped and dig everyday. They eventually added the fatigue which sucked but still made good money. Mils a day sometimes. When u dig ele ores back to back all those days months and years all become worth it. Altep was the be all end all. Philosopher stones and fire ele ores were to thank.
I to made a lot of gil back in the day. Chocobo digging was amazing, and no one really knew cause the lvl ups were hidden. Altep was always great, phil stones and gold ore. and I always hit up rolanberry for orichalcum. I was a bit later to the game than you, but it was great, and only time I saw real competition was ele ore time when the JP diggers would come out. Eventually the bots showed up, and they really made it tough. And then the fatigue or w/e they did to combat the bots. But man, times were good. lvld many crafts just off stuff id dig up, lol
It's free, easy-to-get furniture for your mog house with a decent storage size for your house storage, which you will need to invest in eventually to hold all your items.
i'd like to contribute and say im always able to hit my daily digging cap without any chocobo gear, its far from needed, but nice to have. do not spend money on it thinking its mandatory like the gathering gear is though :P
It depends on what rank you are. If you are ranked two or higher, the gear is more than likely not necessary. However, if you are ranked zero or one, you will need to purchase multiple chocobo‘s in order to cap depending on where you are digging.
whats the font your using for character name and how did you install it, plus why your seek and ls icon look good mine are streached out ,, and ty for the digging guide
The font is the normal font in the game. The reason yours is coming out different is probably because you have your font set to high in the launcher. Try to adjust it to low or normal and it should be working fine.

Very happy you are enjoying the game

It's crazy how relevant your videos are to my interests in HorizonXI as a new player lol.

Thanks for the video, I was wondering how the Chocobo digging was for Gil making 💰
Love your guides, I want to do this “minus the outfit” cuz I’m level 22 lol.. just for the jars and extra storage space alone !
My 3rd dig ever (including retail) landed me a red jar and my first 15 minutes got me 2 gold beastcoins
That's interesting ! Thank you for your videos, your helped me a lot.

@HiroVision Did you jump right into the Red Jar zones? Or did you skill up before attempting?
Jumped in head first
What's special about the red jar?

Love the vids btw
I made a video on this it’s called Settings explained
I loved the video, but I was disappointed that you never said how much Gil you made from digging the first day.
