    I totally agree with what you say. Some Hidden Kards say they have too many similar songs and choreographies but it’s very familiar and I can immediately tell that it is a Kard song or something. Which is why I love Kard's songs so much. I really enjoyed the video and it was so interesting to watch
    My theory is that from the lyrics I think it’s BM and Jseph that don’t love the girls anymore. The girls keep saying “why are you pushing me away” and the girls are trying to hold on to the relationship and love that has died and since the guys don’t love them anymore they represented it as a dead person and the girls are alive representing it as a person still full of love.

      Ashley Kim yea i read comment and I bit same as they . But I know that they company did not big in money so they always use what they have . Not like if they succesful probaly and hopefuly they will work with top producer and famous choreoghrapher in future . Just wait and see .

      A lot of Kpop fans need to understand that not every group wants to "change their concept". Why fix something that isn't broken? They have a formula that gets the job done and that other songs are trying to emulate. They took it upon themselves to take over a genre that no one had really paid much attention, too. Granted, they weren't the first ones to do it and they won't be the last, but they have a distinctive sound that makes you go "that's Kard". And that's honestly, what every group wants: to be recognized for having their own distinctive sound. That pretty much why a lot of them change concepts and genres so much.

    And do you know what "apego" (the word in the neoz light) mean in spanish? It is when you have a special sentimental connection with something or someone so strong that you cannot let it go. That makes a lot of sense with the lyrics and the video. I love it.

    I loved the m/v so much!
    I think the boys being dead is a metaphor for emotionally checking out of a bad relationship without breaking up even though you should. The song is all about possessiveness/clinginess destroying love and I think the video showed that beautifully with the guys being passive/dead in the relationship.
    Somin at first doesn't see that what she is doing with BM is wrong, that there is something wrong in their relationship, that he's not really there but as she slowly starts to realise that she spirals.
    Then we have Jiwoo who seems completely aware of Jseph being checked out of the relationship which suits her fine he doesn't need to be there emotionally as long as he's there physically, as long as he dresses up nicely, takes her to dinner, keeps up the appearance of a happy couple.
    The boys only show their real emotions with they're alone (Jseph rapping his verse in the bathroom) or when the other isn't looking (BM's verse where Somin is frozen with her faced turned away from him) that's when they show their anger and frustration (especially BM) the rest of the time they're acquiescent.

    I totally agree that THIS should have been the KARD they debuted with. This was more like Oh NA Na and Don't Recall... EVEN Rumour. I enjoyed Hola Hola and thought it was good marketing wise but not very representative of the KARD that people stanned from pre-debut. I loved your analysis and I was able to form a better appreciation of the upgrade in video quality. I mean, I knew they obviously had a greater budget but like I couldn't pinpoint what had changed.

  • @tomhannah3825
    @tomhannah3825 6 ปีที่แล้ว +474

    Don't hate me for putting this here; the Producer just gave us this: "Even beyond your fans, people should be able to recognize your music just from how the song sounds." Perfect explanation for Gfriend's songs sounding similar. Thank you! And now back to Kard... :)

    • @heyitsrosie
      @heyitsrosie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Tom Hannah Exactly! People hate on Gfriend a lot because of that but somu is actually building their brand sound. As soon as another group has a song similar to it people go "it sounds like a gfriend song" 😉

    • @AtomicKittenBaby
      @AtomicKittenBaby 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      producer himself also gave gfriend as an example of groups that in the search for their own sound get stuck making the same song over and over. he mentioned fingertip and rough as exceptions saying all the others fuse with one another and sound like pretty much the same song, so i dont think thats a good example of what he was trying to put out here. he said all this in a different video, i think the latest pentagon one

    • @heyitsrosie
      @heyitsrosie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      AtomicKittenBaby well, that's his opinion. He often does reviews based on his own musical preference. Gfriend has a very solid sound but all their songs have something distintict that tell them each of them apart. Only untrained ears would say all of them sound the same. Same with kard songs, each song have their own flavor, they fall under similar music genres, if not the same music genre but infused with different sounds and music elements.

    • @AtomicKittenBaby
      @AtomicKittenBaby 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +heyitsrosie pretty sure this man's ears are everything but untrained. they obviously arent the same song, but they easily could be. yes, of course they dont sound exactly the same because that doesn't make sense, but many of them do this thing where after you heard one you kinda heard them all, which is why i said its not the best example to bring up when talking about what the producer was saying about kard

    • @heyitsrosie
      @heyitsrosie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AtomicKittenBaby I said untrained ears would say is the same songs because people with no music knowledge cant hear the same someone who knows about music does. Gfriend, it is a good example because what you said is exactly the same feeling people get and make the same comments about Kard lol. Unless, it's a technical-like review, it will always involve personal opinions, which leads to personal reviews and thoughts about the song, that's why you shouldnt take someone's word as a fact. People often confuse, similar instrumentalisation = same song. But that's exactly how music genres or music style works. The base is the same, there's a certain song structure they need to follow, but they add something different to each song and that's what both Gfriend and Kard's producers do.

    This is the song that got me into KARD for real. Their previous songs has been really familiar and with that I mean basically identical. Like you could play all of them at the same time and it would sound just fine. (not saying thy are bad cuz they are total bops)
    What I really like about this song is that it's so different from their previous stuff but didn't lose that specific KARD sound. #stantalentstankard

  • @lunali7209
    @lunali7209 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I agree with you completely. Im so sick of people saying KARD releases the same songs over and over again. The thing is all their songs are bops though? Like I’d rather have them stick to their own style and sound with good music instead of doing different things which arent as good. And I think they are different from other kpop groups in that way too, besides the fact that they are co-ed obviously, the fact that they dont do the whole “concept” thing to the same extent that all the other kpop groups do.
    And I also agree that Dont Recall is their best song. Its still my favorite but I feel like this one may become my second favorite now. Rumor is up there too.
    And yes I saw the contrast between Somin and Jiwoo as well. Im curious to find out if they will continue this story in their next releases, lets see :)

      @@ShayaN9776 I agree with you. I don't think they would actually say it because put in this context death is a very heavy topic. Maybe they didn't want to but there is definitely some kind of message the director wanted to convey. This song was similar to their others but like you said, there was a bit more too it and imo its absolutely amazing! I love this new concept. I am curious to hear the rest of the album. I loved that KARD switched up who sang first and that Jiwoo sang a lot more. I also liked that they went dark. The music video sort of reminded me of a Las Vegas motel. I also liked that you can recognize different KARD songs due to a same instrument or notes that are being played from one song to another. I also noticed that they used some same choreo in this video that was used in other videos which I know they did in Hola Hola so I like that connection across their videos too
    I did not notice that their faces were blocked out with lighting until you pointed out. That is why I watch your videos because you point out things that I don’t notice the first time watching it. I’m a HUGE KARD fan so I love this video! 😁

    I think this is one of their best songs. Don't recall is such a hit and it's a song that i still listen now, and I think I'm going to listen to You In Me a lot. The song is so good, because they kept, their styles, but they also change it a bit, like the Somin verse. I also liked that it's similar to Don't recall for the message, but now the boys are the one who want to break up but they can't so they are the dead one in the relationship. The whole album is fantastic, literally one of the best of this year.

    Whuttup PD-nim lol. Just commenting on how much I like your videos because you don't just react or make random comments like most other channels do (no shade though); you actually analyse the videos, the music, costumes, vocals, everything. To someone who's going on to study things like media, screen studies etc your content genuinely interests me and I'm glad your view count has been steadily rising lately (I recall it being quite stationary at some point; I think it was due to the youtube system changing, which is also why I didn't get notifications when you and my other subscriptions uploaded).
    On another note, I saw KARD's new video right when it came out and I instantly loved the sound, set design, and most of all the concept. The apego concept of attachment and obsession is almost synonymous to a yandere. KARD is really utilising this coed thing to its full potential. I like how they offer dual perspectives in their songs. Most artists have a single perspective and the bridge of the song is where they would have a chance to introduce a different idea, but KARD's dynamic allows for multiple viewpoints ie while the girls are obsessing over their lovers, the guys feel are getting the life sucked out of them and suffering. You don't get a lot of representation for people on the other side of these attached stalker type situations. I'd advise you to look at the lyrics too, they're great. Unfortunately KARD's official channel doesn't have captions but 1theK does, otherwise you could probs just look it up. Idk who the director is but the mise-en-scene is on point. TL;DR but keep up the great vids!

    The video was amazing! I was not expecting such a dark concept. I definitely like the video more than the song though, I’m unsure how I’d feel about the song had I heard it without the MV. It’s sounds a little too similar to the other tracks for me but I’ll give it a few more listens, I’ve loved everything Kara has put out thus far so I’m sure this’ll grow on me

    You explained everything so well! It's what I try to tell others when they say that their music/choreo/concepts are too similar. Consistency or an overall sound that represents KARD is important, and as you said, pretty hard to find in k-pop. (I also feel like they need to establish an image in Korea so they'll get noticed more easily?)
    I love it when groups explore different sounds (Exo's Lucky One vs Monster) but I also love it when groups find something that works well with their image/vocals/skills and goes into depth with it. I can't wait for future releases, especially with this kind of 'dark' or 'mature' theme of the music video + music.

    I love your analysis! I agree this video was gorgeous and the song is fantastic. The whole album is a bop. You're right, KARD has this unique sound that identifies them but somehow it always still seems different and fresh. I can't wait for either a choreography video or dance practice! :D
    Anyone else still a little pressed that they didn't get a MAMA nom for rookie group...maybe it's my bias talking but they deserve at least a nomination jeez.

    love the reaction!
    What I think about the video is they showcasing two different aspects of mental illness they faced (losing loved ones).
    As Somin's "lower class" vibe tended to express that she's a mess, while Jiwoo's "high class" vibe was "pretty normal" bc she got in under control, but that's actually even creepier. As in somin's losing her mind scene, Jiwoo was actually smiling and hugging jseph like she's a maniac. BM was actually on the same spot, means somin couldn't do anything. But with Jiwoo, the fact that Jseph is 'sorta moving' and felt 'more alive' means Jiwoo's imaginations are much much wilder.

  • @Lauren-zx3gx
    @Lauren-zx3gx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I definitely noticed and enjoyed the two aspects of how they handle their obsession as well as their grief. Jiwoo tries to act as if she's still in control, as if her life was still perfect. While Somin is more of a mess, almost maniacally losing her mind slowly. They both probably came from different upbringings and had very different relationships with their lovers, but in the end the result was the same. They got left behind, and their love inevitably developed into obsession. Basically Jiwoo and Somin being drastically different in appearance and lifestyle and having that side-to-side comparison shows that this kind of obsession and dependency can happen to anyone. Also, the reveal was nicely done. It kind of made you go "WTF" but then it also made sense considering how completely detached both BM and J.Seph seemed throughout the video.

  • @tiredmeekala
    @tiredmeekala 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with you in that they have a signature style to themselves. I think they've established their style. I also think that because it is the same tropical/dancehall genre, that is why their songs sound similar to each other but distinct from each other. I also agree with the whole shadow effects and dark vibes like Don't Recall. I think dark vibes really suit the group best compared to the brightness of Hola Hola. Hola Hola was a good song marketing wise and a good song as a summer song but I really like their darker vibes.
    However, Don't Recall is still is that ceiling that I think they've gotten close to but has not surpassed.

    I wanna comment on the structure for a minute b/c I was taken by surprise in a really good way.
    If you break down the song, the structure looks like this:
    -Open with Stripped Chorus (main melody but no vocals)
    -Somin Verse
    -J. Seph Rap
    -Chorus
    -Jiwoo Verse
    -BM Rap
    -Chorus
    No bridge and final “double Chorus”.
    The last section, the Chorus is stripped again. We have the girls’ vocals but no main melody (we do have the beat though).
    Then, when the boys come in, main melody comes back, boys sing octaves (at first I thought they were 5ths but I’m almost positive it’s octaves) and the Chorus ends *and doesn’t resolve*.
    It doesn’t end with the same note as Somin’s first note in her first verse, nor the first note of the main melody (though I’m still struggling to find out what key it’s in to determine at what interval she stopped at).
    The song told two stories. It structured them parallel to each other and then finished. It didn’t need another Chorus or a Bridge b/c what more of the story is there to tell?
    Also, I love what you said about KARD finding a sound and keeping with it. This song does feel like a successor to Don’t Recall and Rumor in sound, and more than likely is a continuation of Oh Na Na, Don’t Recall, and Rumor in story (I’d have to see the lyrics to be sure). But KARD has proven they can be consistent without letting their sound get stale or boring. It’s amazing.
    MAN, I love these guys!

    Fun fact! The motels' name "Apego" is the spanish word for addiction or obsession, perfect for the concept!
    What I also appreciate about KARD is their reggeton sound, not much can tell but KARD is very popular with latin kpop fans because of their style

    This breakdown & analysis is great 👏🏼 wow not very many breakdowns like this. I agree very few groups that I can name at the top of my head have their own distinct sound like you just know it’s them. They have their own style when people say their songs are repetitive I disagree they have a fresh sound & they apply the sounds in new ways & play with the vocals like you mentioned in this song they mixed it up & it’s great when they do venture out & do more things with their music I feel like their sound will still be recognizable because they have their own identity. This video was gorgeous KARD’s comebacks never disappoint

    Personally, I think the story of the mv was about Jiwoo and Soomin killing their boyfriends (J.seph and BM). Jiwoo always seems calm and collected throughout the scenes. She poisoned J.seph so that she could keep him forever. Soomin acts more unstable so I think she murdered BM during a time when she was having a breakdown. I don't think she intentionally killed him because she started freaking out over later. This was by far my favorite KARD mv.

    I feel like Somin neglected BM for too long and instead of just moving on from her he waited for her. So when she came back he started ignoring her just like she did to him even though Somin apologized to BM. And for Jiwoo and J. Seph, I think that Jiwoo cheated on him and that’s why she tells him “your the only in I love”. Their love sadly dies just like Somin and BM’s did but the girls keep pushing their love unconsciously until they realized what they were doing. Somin freaked out while Jiwoo just accepted it.
